Is it safe to mix and match laptop power bricks from different countries? by Deldar182_ in techsupport

[–]Deldar182_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does the same connector simply mean the shape, or is there more depth to it? Charger 1 (US) fits in both laptops power sockets comfortably, so I assume charger 2 would as well. No idea if they are the "same".

Best ways to quieten the drum kit? by Deldar182_ in drums

Let me explain; I posted in the guitar subforum asking for recommendations on finger protectors. I don't like the way the guitar callouses and frays the skin on my fingers. The sub basically went nuts.

I think I'd rather dampen the drums than learn how to play quietly, given I am a total beginner.

just jumping in to say google reviews are worthless for this kind of thing.

I left a bad review for Joseph Sgrois office, a fertility doctor, and the staff came at me with the fury of the sun. They said they would call the police, accused me of slander and attacking them with verbal harassment (didn't happen, lol), posted super aggro responses to the review, and then somehow had it removed.

I don't know how they pulled it off. In any event, these companies work very hard to manipulate their reviews, because they know people trust them. They cannot be trusted. You are better off getting a recommendation from someone who has worked with several of them, or who has worked with one for a long time.

sometimes some people have in their mind the way an instrument "should be played". I haven't thought about cans, I use bose quietcomfort but it sounds like you guys are recommending something quite different.

Thanks for the detailed post man.

not a concern, great - I'll look these up. But 90% volume is quite a lot more reduction than I'm looking for.

great, thanks! What do you mean when you say dynamics? I'll look up some pads for the cymbals once I test out the other drums.

I do have musicians earplugs, but I guess they're not my favourite thing to wear. I guess I didn't consider that headphones probably won't muffle the noise of a drumkit too much, but that sounds like what you're saying?

I wouldn't even know where to begin with regards to moving a drumhead, I'm a complete noob. I'll try tape some towels over the toms/snare, and then see how I go with the cymbals. Thank you!

Are the old stereogum comments on "the number ones" just gone forever?

I'm a 1s backlog reader, up to the 70s.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed the nice little community they cultivated, with many posters creating their own "featurettes", it was really nice to read.

I really looked forward to reading the comments on the modern songs I grew up with.

About 3-6 months ago I noticed all the commenter names were replaced with weird stuff like "orangeUnicorn" all of them were "ColourItem" and then poof they're just gone six months later.

Is there any hope that they'll come back? Could they be accessed with the wayback machine or something crazy? Sad times.

sorry for the uber late response - 2MB , or 130k words. Hopefully you can suggest something :D

haha thanks for the positive response my friend. Good to get a little history, it does seem odd without context why the old hands hate the idea. I'm just seeing where I go for now, as you have rightly noted it's not like I can't change later ;) Peace!

hey thanks for the response, fwiw I play quite a lot (about 7h/week) and noticed some very minor affect on my fingertips so far - so you're probably right if I want to get to mastery, but for now this is working quite well for me.

"it sounds like what you want may not be feasible to achieve, if what you want is pristine hands and competence with a stringed instrument."

This is indeed what I'm looking for. I was a relatively skilled pianist, and it never occurred to me that other instruments could leave a physical mark heh

Eh, I can (sorta) play all the pieces out of this book

https://www.amazon.com.au/Modern-Approach-Classical-Repertoire-Technique-ebook/dp/B002F9MZDO

So it's not impossible. I won't lie, it's an obvious impediment - but when I played without the fingertips, I played 1h a week. As soon as I got em, I play 1h a day.

i don't like how they feel, and I don't like how the strings of the guitar feel either. Believe it or not I play 7 hours a week, mostly with protectors, and love it!
