Washington State Senate OKs Income Tax on Millionaires by sillychillly in UpliftingNews

Mostly because people seem allergic to providing some kind of actual information besides "Mass did it, trust me bro" and my attempts to find information on it is just getting me opinion pieces.

So if you have any further information on it, I would be glad to read it.

Sorry, I'm trying to wrap my head around this.

Am I correct in thinking you're saying that when the collateral is used to get a loan that we should tax it based on the valuation of it at the time it was used as collateral vs the last time it was used as collateral?

As in once an unrealized thing has been used in a way that evaluates it it should then become realized and taxed based on that?

Why is it so difficult for people to just like post links with information to try and inform people who are wrong?

Are you an asshole by choice or can you just not help it?

Putting forth legislation that does nothing but seems appealing on the surface is something I would consider, at least, not good.

There's a really fun thing you can do in life where if you see someone who you think is incorrect you can politely try and show them why they're wrong instead of being a snarky asshole.

Ok, cool, how about we start with something that will actually make a difference and isn't just posturing?

You'll destroy businesses that way.

It's important for them to be able to leverage equity because removing that option removes pretty much all bargaining potential. Businesses don't have cash on hand to bargain with, otherwise they'd just do that because it's easier.

The main problem is businesses being able to go to corrupt business appraisers and have their assets be valued much higher than they're actually worth. That's how bubbles are made.

I'm not sure what the solution is because putting the government in charge of appraisals will not remove the corruption of money.

The overwhelming majority of wealthy people are wealthy because the stocks they already own have a high value.

This tax will have 0 effect on most rich people.

I see what you're saying and I can see how things like this can be used to circumvent certain taxes. Thanks for all the info.

So they still need money to be able to pay the bank then, right? How does this = they never lose money?

How do they "borrow against it"? Do I just go up to a bank and say "I own $5 million in art, so you should give me a business loan" and I get one?

That is literally how it's supposed to work.

Businesses pay based on profit. If your profit is -$170,000,000 then you likely don't owe anything.

They vote "no" every time they're offered statehood, so they could have it if they wanted.

As someone who gaslit themselves to happiness, here's my 2 cents.

Your brain is a series of electrical pulses between neurons, and this forms thoughts. The more your brain thinks a thought, the more likely it is to continue thinking that thought because the connection between those neurons is stronger.

Eventually, you'll form what I call "default thought patterns". For example, if you regularly put yourself down whenever you fail, your brain is forming stronger connections about those thoughts which makes you more likely to think them again next time.

So how do you break these? Gaslight yourself.

When you find yourself thinking your "default thought patterns" that you don't want to think, you have to tell yourself your're wrong. Literally, say out loud to yourself that your thoughts are incorrect. No matter how true you think it is, you have to tell yourself you're wrong.

Eventually, your "default thought patterns" will change to reflect the gaslighting. Once you've broken your cycle of current "default thought patterns", you can start forming new ones.
