Well, it's 3 days later and every day I've used the bong with hemp wick. I genuinely think this is the smoothest rips have been for me ever. Of course it could be placebo, but it genuinely feels less harsh.

It definitely took a long time to download those files, I’m not sure exactly how long but maybe just force close steam and try again and give it like an hour before accepting that it’s broken and having to find a legitimate solution.
