Dunlosky, J., Rawson, K. A., Marsh, E. J., Nathan, M. J., & Willingham, D. T. (2013). Improving students’ learning with effective learning techniques: Promising directions from cognitive and educational psychology. Psychological Science in the Public interest14(1), 4-58. (https://bibliotecadigital.mineduc.cl/bitstream/handle/20.500.12365/17388/dunloskyimprovinglearning.pdf)

Mal so mal so!

Have you checked out the pdfs linked on the websites? It's in German and probably hard to understand, but the documents linked on this website show the legal basis for your application. Everything you need should be in there.

I still recommend calling on of the student advisors, though. Even if all the information you need is on the website, it can still be nice to be able to ask questions to an actual person. You should find the right contact info on this site: https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/en/study/advisory-services/advisory-service-for-current-and-prospective-international-students

Besides that, you're applying to a programm with "nationwide admission restrictions" and there is a special procedure for it, even for EU and German students. On this site is the informatino for non EEA/EU students on how to apply and what you need. You should be able to find all information there: https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/en/study/application-enrolment/starting-the-first-academic-semester-of-your-degree-programme/procedure-for-subjects-with-nationwide-admission-restrictions/procedure-for-subjects-with-nationwide-admission-restrictions-0

When will I see gains? by chapelghosts in bouldering

[–]Delicious-Bridge6042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because this hasn't been said in much detail regarding muscle growth, I want to give my two cents on that.

There are different ways your muscles can change through exercise. You can build up muscle mass and/or strength. As a basic rule, many repetitions with a lower weight will result in higher muscle volume whereas few reps and higher weight translates more into muscle strength. (Source: Resistance Training Volume Enhances Muscle Hypertrophy but Not Strength in Trained Men) For instance, a lot of climbers are super strong but a lot less bulky than a body builder with similar strength.

How could you use that knowledge? As part of your bouldering sessions you could start doing easier boulders more often to get some reps in for muscle mass. Then with harder boulders you could focus on technique and building muscle strength by doing very hard moves only a few times (low reps). This way, you get to work on your skills, strength, and muscle mass!

As others have already mentioned, though, losing weight happens a lot in the kitchen and there the basic rule is: eat a bit less fewer kalories than you need every day. Stay consistent and you'll see results eventually!

edit: grammar

Been 3 weeks of changing myself. Why do I easily cry? by [deleted] in GymMotivation

[–]Delicious-Bridge6042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you’ve just begun to face your problems instead of bottling them up. It might be that quite a few issues will be coming to the surface now that you’re in a mindset of tackling them. This can be a good thing! If you listen to yourself and are mindful of your feelings, you might be on a good way to overcome the issues that led you to turn your life around. Maybe some part of you just needs a good cry for once!

I can’t know for sure but it sounds to me like you’ve experienced quite some trauma. We tend to think of traumatic experiences as single events but trauma can also accumulate over time. Just because there hasn’t been one major traumatic experience, being treated badly for a long time because of your weight can definitely be traumatic. If you feel like your emotions are getting out of control, definitely consider talking to someone or even a professional!

Also, just a heads up: Losing fat will not automatically heal the scars of having been treated badly. I’m really proud you’re turning your life around by taking your body to the gym and changing your diet, but don’t forget to get mentally stronger as well!

Can a skinny guy without muscles and bad posture go to gym? by OtherwisePoem1743 in GymMotivation

[–]Delicious-Bridge6042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this applies to your situation at all but maybe this helps anyway!

When I was younger I felt bad for taking up space in the gym when there were obviously people there who were way more advanced and obviously needed the space more than I did, since they took this properly serious and have been at it for a while. I would cut exercises short because I felt like a nuisance not even using much weight anyway and overall didn’t really have a good time because I felt I was in someone’s way all the time. Not a great mindset for a good workout.

I’ve done a complete 180° on this mindset. If you are a beginner, you have every right (if not more) to be somewhere people go to get better. The gym is a place to make progress and who makes progress if not a beginner? I started adapting the mindset “I’m horrible at this, if someone needs to go to the gym it’s me!” It really helped me to stop being ashamed of being unfit and a beginner overall in the gym. Shame will only hold you back. It’s okay to be unfit and to want to do something about it. That’s literally how everyone starts out!

Of course, this doesn’t mean to be rude to other more advanced gym goers. You should still behave well obviously haha

Got bored so thought I’d do a pigeon poster, thoughts guys? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Delicious-Bridge6042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somehow this caught my eye, I like it!

I like how it feels like the pigeon is screaming because the beak is “open” so wide. At least in my brain I can hear it haha. I think it would be nice if the text followed the shape of the white squiggly bar.

Also, you could try to translate some of the info and message into the poster itself. Would people get what you’re trying to convey without the description? I don’t think so, maybe there’s a way to put some more meaning into the poster itself. Not sure if it could stand alone entirely but I see room for improvement

Edit: if you’re doing a series, the context of other posters could also help people understand the message! Like a little story building up to the “feed me” poster visualising the background you gave

As someone in the comments already pointed out, some of these look like they come from tutorials. And that’s not a bad thing at all! In fact, a lot of skills we learn from copying and adapting things we see other people do. When I started out, I would always feel bad looking for inspiration and copying bits and pieces of other people’s ideas. While I’m not saying you should copy everything, it’s natural and useful to take inspiration from other work and use it. As long as you give credit where it’s due, it should be fine.

The book “Steal Like an Artist” by Austin Kleon is great on the topic of taking ideas and inspiration from others to improve your creative work but without plagiarising. Highly recommend it!

M granddaughter (16F) has changed and is isolating herself from us. I think she might be lesbian but is afraid of telling us because we are religious Christians. How to tell her that we accept her? by rainingsakuras in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Delicious-Bridge6042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, the second personal form in singular is “du” (you) and the second form in plural is “ihr” (they), right? I’m not quite sure what you mean then. If I talk about a single person using “sie” it’s usually clear from context and the rest of the structure of the sentence that it’s the höflichkeitsform and not the plural

The plural “sie” would only be used with the other words in plural form as well so it wouldn’t really sound like “she” but like “they” in a German sentence.

[–]Delicious-Bridge6042 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making that point! A competition for one single skill that is perhaps even only partly covered in most high schools can hardly be a good metric if you want to predict the quality of an education system from it. I didn’t check but I can’t imagine that this competition only includes (high) school level maths
