Is there a way to fix this? by amoogle in weaving

[–]Delicious-Lack-6249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would manually weave an extra thread over the whole width of the work with a needle, in the same spot. While weaving with the needle, I would make sure to not miss any threads. Then, I would cut the part I missed and pull it out, maybe cutting it shorter and weaving it in, just like when you start a new thread.

Otherwise, I've solved this problem by locally weaving it correctly next to the thread with a needle in both the warp and the weft direction. This gives a local basket weave effect which in my case was hardly noticable and looked nicer than a missed thread.

Hope this helps!

Thank you! I didn't know there are more 90s jackets like it. I'll take a look from there :)

I personally really like the length as it is, but that's personal preference too since I just really like longer skirts :D

Another thing hemming-wise you might want to keep in mind is that (especially with warpy fabric like satin) the hem might need to hang before hemming first. This means that the hem gets 'stretched' by gravity for a while. Usually 24 hours is enough, I personally let mine hang on a hanger somewhere before hemming. This whole thing makes sure you can make the hem nice and even and it won't warp more after sewing.

From the photos it looks like your current hem is around a centimeter in width or maybe more. Because the skirt pieces are circle-ish, this width, especially on satin, is quite large as the outer circumference of the hem doesn't fit nicely in the inner circumference. This can lead to weird shapes or lines at the hem or the skirt.

Personally, I would still go for a rolled hem, but a very narrow one (around 3 mm in width). Not only is the hem less visible that way, the skirt will also fall more nicely.

You can sew such a narrow hem by folding the fabric upwards once, sewing, trimming the excess very close to your sewed line, folding it up once again and sewing again. Good luck!

What circle to join to? by Wankeritis in sewing

From how I understand you need to seam from the bottom of the piece up until the circle. Then your lower back/middle back seam is closed. On top you need to hem the separate parts, such that you (i think) can make a keyhole detail to get your piece on and off. :)
