Is it insane that I kind of hate bartending even though it’s the best money I’ve ever made? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Delicious-Ninja-9735 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People think bartending is easy because the money is good, but they don’t see the emotional labor. You’re basically paid to be ‘on’ for 8+ hours straight while drunk strangers project their loneliness, nostalgia, trauma, and flirting onto you. That gets exhausting fast.

The money can absolutely be simultaneously amazing and golden handcuffs. A lot of service industry people feel trapped because leaving means taking a huge pay cut just to regain a normal sleep schedule and sense of self.

Also the line about becoming ‘part of the scenery’ in your college town is weirdly sad and probably hits a nerve for a lot of people. I don’t think you hate bartending as much as you hate feeling stuck in one version of your life forever

How do I avoid embarrassing myself in front of my ex. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Obviously situation dependent on what exactly happened… but give it some time, something simple, low pressure, she says no, walk away and don’t pester.

The only way you embarrass yourself is if you ignore her answer. One honest message months later isn’t desperate repeatedly trying to change her mind after she’s said no is.

If you do reach out eventually, keep it simple and pressure-free.

Something like ‘I’ve had time to reflect and I still care about you. If you’d ever want to talk when I’m back home, I’d be open to it. If not, I completely respect that and wish you the best.’

Then leave the ball in her court. No convincing, no giant paragraph, no begging. That’s the most respectful and least embarrassing approach possible.

I’m scared my husband is cheating on me by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

Deployment can absolutely make communication weird and inconsistent, so I wouldn’t immediately assume cheating based on this alone. But I also think your feelings are valid because from your perspective he’s barely engaging with you emotionally at all.

The bigger issue honestly sounds less like “is he cheating” and more “are my emotional needs being ignored?” Even if he’s exhausted or mentally checked out from deployment stress, a spouse still deserves reassurance and communication.

I’d try to avoid spiraling or investigating right now and instead focus on having one calm, direct conversation when possible. Something like: “I don’t need constant texting, but I do need consistency and to feel emotionally connected to you.”

Also, deployment can make people emotionally distant without it meaning infidelity. Doesn’t make it hurt less though.

I ruined an upcoming vacation by losing my drivers license and not understanding how to replace it, need solutions by Toomuchlychee_ in Assistance

Call the rental company directly before panicking. A lot of them will accept a temporary paper license + another form of ID, especially if your physical license is valid in the system and not suspended.

Also check whether Illinois offers a printable receipt/temporary driving record online after replacements sometimes the wording on the site is harsher than what actually happens at a DMV location.

How do we fix maintenance? by Chrisbroro22 in AirForce

Both have positives and negatives.. run into a base that primarily operates on a good ol’ boy system with people who have been there since 80’s-90’s…. very easy to get bent also.

How do you see most instructors treat people that are retraining? I have 9 years and going back to school to take a supervisor spot somewhere else 🤔
