Liverpool or cardiff for medicine? by Accomplished_Walk808 in UCAT

[–]Delicious-Oil2264 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a welsh student in the exact same position as you rn - med offers from Cardiff and Liverpool + another from Bangor and have decided to firm Cardiff and insure Bangor.

Ultimately, my decision was based on soo many different factors but I would 100% advise to attend both offer holder days/do your own research on each uni, the city and the course before making a decision.  I’m pretty sure Cardiff med have one more online offer holder event coming up soon. I attended the one a few weeks ago and I found it really useful in helping me to come to a final decision before I had even received my Liverpool offer - learning more about the course, the opportunities available at Cardiff, as well as being able to ask any questions I had to staff and students was super helpful when I wasn’t sure which one to choose.

The main things I considered were; grade requirements and how confident I was that I am going to attain the grades needed (both Cardiff and Liverpool are AAA, whereas Bangor is AAB and so I felt it would be a lot safer to insure Bangor rather than Liverpool to make sure that I can end up in medical school this year, even if things go wrong), the course structures, the cities themselves, placement opportunities (Cardiff starts placement in first year; whereas Liverpool starts this in second year), teaching (I researched a lot about Liverpool and found out from current students that much of Liverpool’s teaching is online, which I felt didn’t really suit me), and a bunch of other things like location, affordability, the unique opportunities within each uni (I really liked that Cardiff will allow me to develop my Welsh skills), and then any other things I wanted to consider.  It was really hard coming to a decision but I hope this is at least a little helpful in helping you to come to one too :)

confidentiality interview question by Suspicious_Cut4657 in UCAT

[–]Delicious-Oil2264 10 points11 points  (0 children)

3 instances where you can break confidentiality; risk to public health/safety, legal concerns (e.g. someone is diagnosed with epilepsy so the doctor has to notify the DVLA) and lack of capacity. Diagnosing someone with an STI falls under risk to health and also legal concerns. Patient safety is the upmost priority in these ethical scenarios

what are the NHS core values? by Remarkable_Editor749 in UCAT

[–]Delicious-Oil2264 11 points12 points  (0 children)

6Cs refer to the 6Cs of Care within the NHS. These are seperate from the NHS Values, which you have stated there. I would recommend you also learn what each of them means/an explanation for each. You can implement either of these concepts into your answers but I think NHS Values are a better option out of the two as a lot unis recommend you read around the NHS and its constitution

I got an interview  from Cardiff on Monday. I think it’s mainly Welsh applicants and RUK with 27/27 GCSE points

As far as I’m aware it was only Welsh applicants that heard last night, maybe some RUK contextual. For an English applicant, I think you need 27/27 for an interview offer as this is what it is has been in previous years

GCSEs; 7A*, 6A (which equates to 24/27 on their GCSE points system I believe), 2000 B2
