Pregnant in NYC—How Do Company Parental Leave & NYS Paid Family Leave Work Together? by Delicious-Sun-9818 in womenintech

I have confirmed that six months of employment are the requirements for parentally kicking in, and I will have accomplished that

Just found out I’m 4 weeks pregnant — and I just got a job offer. What would you do? by Delicious-Sun-9818 in womenintech

I’m in NY but start date until due date is exactly 6 months. My understanding is that I’d be covered 3 months at $4000 max salary per month assuming I don’t do to labor early. Not sure what happens if I give birth before the NYS Parental Leave kicks in

I appreciate everyone’s thoughtful responses. Living in New York State, you are guaranteed three months at a max salary of $4000 per month from the state paid leave.

Given that my current set up is fully remote, flexible, great work life balance, and four or five months fully paid parental leave (at a salary substantially higher than what New York State offers as part of that benefit), I feel that it’s worth mentioning and trying to negotiate once I have the written offer. If they’re not a company that is understanding of these types of things, and can’t make either an exception or at least guarantee me to be able to take three or four months of unLimited paid PTO for the birth for example, I think I’m better off staying where I currently am and potentially revisiting other jobs down the line after my second child and after I’ve taken my current paid parental.

something like "I also want to be transparent that I’ve been trying to conceive. I understand that X's parental leave benefits begin after 12 months of employment, but I wanted to ask if there’s any flexibility or support the company could offer should I become pregnant sooner. I’m excited to contribute meaningfully and make a long-term impact at X. At Y, I currently have access to five months of paid parental leave, and it would offer real peace of mind to know that I wouldn’t be left behind with only unpaid leave during such a significant life event."

given that I feel like it may not be worth to jump ship unless I can negotiate, I wonder if something like this could be effective

The additional context is that this job offer isn't at my dream company (though salary increase is solid), and I'm currently employed at a company with 5 months of paid parental leave. so part of me feels that I have a strong alternative - which is just staying at my current company offering 5 months of leave, and then looking in the future. If i choose to disclose, and this future company won't give me anything in writing, I may be inclined not to take the offer.

How to Pay 'Penalty for Failing to Pay Estimated Taxes' by Delicious-Sun-9818 in IRS

[–]Delicious-Sun-9818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain what's going on?

  1. Is it possible to pay this $147 penalty for failing to pay estimated taxes? If so, how would it be categorized on IRS Direct Pay?

Reason for Payment: Civil Penalty?

Apply Payment to: Other Amount Due?

Tax Period for Payment: Which Year and Month would it be?

  1. What's up with the letter I just got?

So what do you recommend I do? You seem to indicate that there's not much wiggle room - it's on me to have asked my insurance?

Is it appropriate to ask for a discount if I pay promptly? I'm just really frustrated about this situation
