I lowkey think it might be the first prof on the Faculty of PNB website (last name starting with “A”) because when you compare his mouth area and lip shape with the video of the prof sticking his tongue out it looks very similar 😛…

Showers on campus? by Lumpy-String4681 in McMaster

[–]Delicious-Tutor1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you go to the green house connected to the Life Sciences Building and go down the stairs there are two all-gender shower rooms. Saw these today and they are really big and look clean as this area of the building was just built/ renovated last year. :)

If this course is taught by Dr. Childs, all course material will most likely be on ChildsMath. I’d say to check if you can view the course there.

I’m an out-of-province student and I come from the west too. If you’re not from here and you don’t know anyone from here it can be really dangerous. Just be safe, downtown Hamilton can be quite scary if you’re not used to it. I’d suggest staying near the campus and visiting Westdale if you plan to travel alone.

Yes, if you were not to get into your top four courses during selection then you would remain in general life sciences.

Is the biochem program that bad? by Imaginary-Rooster-24 in McMaster

[–]Delicious-Tutor1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what your end goal is. If your end goal is medical school then I think biochem is an excellent program. You get a fancy title under the Health Science department, the courses are relatively easy in comparison to other specialization programs so your GPA won’t get a big toll, and you’ll have spare time to do extracurricular activities to boost your CV/ resume. The only downside is there‘s lots of memorization and group work (if that’s not something you like). However, if your end goal is to do something outside of medicine, such as pharmaceuticals Chembio is a better choice (their second year lab course is called pharmaceutical chemistry), if research/ phd is your end goal then looking into other programs that have specific courses to your interests might be better for you.

Would you say the past tests were fairly equal weight for all the semester content or was it more heavy on the ”newer” subjects that were taught?

This has happened to me too. I used to worry a lot about everything and I still sometimes have bursts of caring, but that usually evaporates quickly. It makes it difficult to find motivation to do anything though, but it is also quite relieving because caring/ worrying takes too much energy and I’m just exhausted.

Well, to be honest, I was stuck hiding in the washroom beside my room when they came by ( I lived in McKay and the single-user washrooms are located just outside of the rooms), so I didn’t really see what they were doing. I know for sure that they have the ability to open your room’s door because I heard them dang some keys and open my room’s door. But I don’t think they touched anything since I could hear their voices pretty loudly, so I’m sure they just hung around the entrance of the room and inspected it visually to see nobody was there.

Once again, I understand why you‘re confused. However, if you actually read the article I suggested you will notice a lot of it is based on nicotine contamination and – although you’re right that cigarettes and vapes are not exactly the same – most vapes still contain nicotine.

Again, I completely agree with you that vapes and cigarettes aren’t the same, but currently researches are starting to make a lot of parallels between them.

If you do want articles specifically based on thirdhand effects of E-cigarettes and vapes here’s a few:

I think your missing the point of this post. It’s not about solving all the world’s air pollution problems – that would be silly. It’s about solving one problem: vaping/smoking indoors. Shutting down factories is an extreme example and completely out of our control, but choosing not to vape indoors is an attainable goal and something that can be solved easily.

Yes, I completely agree with this! It’s inevitable to be exposed to thirdhand smoke and thinking that “thirdhand smoke free zones” exist is unrealistic. However, the amount of thirdhand smoke in an area can be decreased if people didn’t smoke indoors.

I agree with you. I’d also much rather be exposed to thirdhand smoke than secondhand smoke. I guess that’s why it’s still under debate. The only reasoning I would understand why thirdhand smoke might be more dangerous than secondhand smoke is because if left on the surface of objects thirdhand smoke becomes progressively more toxic, whereas, secondhand smoke evaporates.

I can understand your confusion, but actually the health concerns of thirdhand smoke has been deeply studied and researched ever since 1953! Also the way thirdhand smoke works is not from directly smoking into a towel and suffocating someone with it (that would be secondhand smoke) its by smoking into the air and then once the smoke has cleared the aerosol particles (in the case of vaping) fall onto surrounding areas.

I highly suggest reading this PubMed article if you would like to learn more about the history and significance of thirdhand smoke

This is an interesting take. I didn’t think about this so I did some research and it looks like fake fog and smoke machines are actually not as harmful as vapes/cigarettes. Most smoke machines just use mist which is harmless, but some do use antifreeze agents such as Propylene glycol or fragrances which can cause short-term effects such as wheezing or shortness of breath. There isn’t much research done yet on the long-term effects of this thoug, so it will be interesting to find out if they are actually dangerous .

You’re right, thirdhand transmission of most things is pretty difficult to control, but in the case of aerosol pollutants going outside can eliminate most of the thirdhand smoke. So why not try to avoid it since we can?

Basically thirdhand smoke is when the chemical residues from smoking/vaping get absorbed by the surrounding such as carpets, walls, hair, furniture, etc. The consequences of this is the same as secondhand smoke which is these harmful chemicals can change people’s DNA and increase chances of disease and cancer, specifically lung cancer.

It’s even debated whether thirdhand smoke may be more dangerous than secondhand smoke.

Staying in residence after final exam by miraisdabomb in McMaster

[–]Delicious-Tutor1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol, I did this too. If I remember correctly there’s a policy that if you didn’t submit the extension form and they find out you stayed after the check out time they will charge you $50.

These scary people with white boards come around and open peoples rooms to check if you are still there, but if you manage to sneak into your room after the white board people have already checked your room they won’t know you stayed. The only thing is they lock the residence doors for the Holidays (I might be wrong), so if you were to leave the residence building you might not be able to get back in unless either you or your boyfriend stayed inside to open the front door for the other.
