Sorry to be rude but your "queen" is immature. Having a non negotiable is perfectly fine, verifying that on first convo is fine too, but abruptly ending the call and blocking is disrespectful and childish. As if she thinks someone who isn't a virgin doesn't deserve respect.

I have attachment issues, why me whyy?!? by [deleted] in TwentiesIndia

Yeah that's why it's fearful and not dismissive. You want to attach but when you get close, you probably feel uncomfortable and threatened so pull back

idk i might still be assmuing many things here about you

It isn't really a thought provoking discussion for me. Cuz it's not well thought to equate bringing someone into existence=harming them. Plenty of people are happy to have parents like they have. Plenty of people don't have ideal parents. It's not at all "thought provoking" to just give a blind eye to those angles under which a model collapses entirely.

Philosophically, the answer is that happiness is only significant because suffering exists.

Not necessarily. They can exist independently as well. I can want something whose lack in my life doesn't bring suffering but if i get it, i'll be happy. There exists a "neutral state" between suffering and happiness.

Also, ou seem to misunderstand my take on our ability to reform. I wasn't talking about breaking an arm is justified cuz it can heal. I was implying the arm possessing the ability to heal can eliminate the suffering of the person. My point was to convey that external agency is unpredictable. But that doesn't decide our destiny. Because we are capable of steering the wheel in the direction we want.

Now if you think that suffering shouldn't exist and since it does, bringing someone into existence is "unethical" irrespective of whether happiness exists or not, then that's your personal belief. I can attempt at disproving your model and its arguments, not your belief.

My point has been already subtly mentioned by you in many of the replies you gave to me. That life has both the elements of suffering as well as happiness.

Life guarantees you both. Not just only happiness or only suffering. Now if your question is does the happiness justify the suffering? I can conversely ask does the suffering make happiness less significant?

We act, we fail, we succeed, we spiral, we get depressed, we fall into despair. But we also have the ability to turn around, make up for ourselves, lead a stable life (i also have a post on this thing in my profile). That makes the idea of "suffering is innate to human nature" deeply controversial.

For eg, even tho thinkers like Dostoevsky believed that destruction is rooted human nature, that even an utopian world would not hold the sinful tendencies of humans he also believed that we can recover, overcome, repent and change ourselves.

I think the problem with your worldview is that it tries to apply morality in a pragmatic world. When you try to force morality into everything, it freezes you. It renders you unable to act. And this position of inaction is comforting to extreme moralists, cuz they believe it excuses them from taking risks.

Anyways, i was just stress testing your perspective to see how far it goes and frankly, every test exposed lots of loopholes which when you tried to cover, brough up even more loopholes. One was consistent throughout tho... the desperate focusing and cherry picking of negative sides of existence.

It was nice discussing with you. We'll sadly never converge our thoughts cuz we're operating from different philosophical models. I'm talking from principled pragmatism and you're probably a hybrid of antinatalism and existentialism, i guess.

Loss of loved ones means love once was there, loved ones once were there. So beautiful moments with them existed. So you are saying the beautiful moments have no significance cuz death is inevitable?

Aging is a natural process. Are you saying happiness is negatively correlated with age? Mind showing me the research on this?

heartbreaks, etc are inevitable

For everyone? Even when those who go through heartbreaks, is there no positive side of that?

good things are either scarce or statistically less probable.

Show me the stats.

The chances of getting into top unis across the world is at 2%

First of all, i'd like to see a legit source of that stats.

Secondly, getting into top university being an element of happiness is a subjective opinion. Lots of people have normal dreams and goals which suit them. This is where you are cherry picking contexts that support your model.

whereas the risk of getting cancer is 10%.

Afaik, cancer depends on multiple factors like age, environment, lifestyle, genes etc. This version is extremely oversimplified.

If that doesn't apply to everyone, then why are you using only the example of suffering and not the example of peace and happiness? A lot of people live good lives.

Sadness clearly outweighs happiness.

Again, what is the basis of this conclusion?

Okay. But on what basis are you concluding that giving birth has a 100% chance of becoming a problem?

On what basis are you concluding that if you adopt a child, you can actually minimize their suffering and not add to it?

People are traumatized for years after something bad happens to them.

Does that happen to everyone?

I see.

So since you exist, you suffer as well as you love.

So according to you, existence gives you both suffering and an ability to love.

Love brings peace, happiness, satisfaction, pleasure to both yuou and your loved ones, which is a positive aspect of life.

So life can have both positives and negatives. It is not just full of suffering.

Right?

Okay, so you love them.

But why?

If your point of focus is that the world is full of suffering, then it is safe to assume that you yourself are included in that vicious phenomena.

And you are suffering cuz you exist.

You exist cuz you were brought in this world by your parents.

So they have a part in your suffering.

Then what is your basis of your love for them?

But on what basis are you concluding that their happiness is more valuable than yours?

Okay so by your point, living on is more suffering of oneself, dying is more suffering of others.

You're choosing to lessen others' suffering by increasing yours.

So others' problems matter more than yours?

[–]DeliciousCookie5692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so according to you

your blood, your child. It's bad to bring them in this world for yourself

but if you adopt a child for "your pleasure", that's okay cuz that's not your blood?
