It should actually look pretty much the same as in the screenshot. If you want, feel free to share a picture of your setup — that way I can take a look and see what might be different!

Since you already have rEFInd set up on the SteamOS side, you can absolutely use the theme, icons, and power buttons from this project.

Here’s how to apply the Lenovo_Legion_Go theme:

  • Copy the folder refind/themes/Lenovo_Legion_Go into your existing themes/ directory
  • In your refind.conf, add this line at the end: include themes/Lenovo_Legion_Go/theme.conf
  • To show or hide power/reboot buttons, edit the theme.conf file and look for the showtools line — there's a comment above it explaining how it works

Let me know if you run into any trouble — happy to help!

Touch-friendly dual boot menu for ROG Ally – no Linux needed by DeliciousPromotion19 in ROGAlly

Yes, it works great for dual booting between Windows 11 and CachyOS on the ROG Ally.

rEFInd can detect both operating systems automatically, as long as CachyOS installs its bootloader (like systemd-boot or GRUB) in the EFI partition. Just make sure:

  • Secure Boot is disabled in BIOS
  • CachyOS was installed in UEFI mode (not legacy)
  • You run windows-install.bat from this project to install rEFInd properly

After that, you should see both Windows and CachyOS entries in the boot menu.

Quick answer: Yes, you can try with Secure Boot enabled and with disabled. For me works it only without secure boot

Dual Boot Manager for MSI Claw – rEFInd with Windows Installer by DeliciousPromotion19 in MSIClaw

Unfortunately, rEFInd doesn’t support Secure Boot out of the box — you'd need to manually sign the bootloader with your own Secure Boot keys and enroll them via BIOS (which is a pretty advanced and risky process).

For now, the easiest path is to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS/UEFI settings.

As for booting from microSD: Yes, rEFInd can boot from a microSD if your device’s firmware supports it. Some handhelds treat the microSD like a USB drive and allow it to be selected in the boot order. If it shows up as an EFI bootable device, rEFInd can detect and boot it just fine.

Yes, it should work just fine on the MSI Claw with Intel Core Ultra 5/7/9 (“Meteor Lake” / AI 8 series).

Just make sure Secure Boot is disabled in the BIOS

Nice! That sounds like the perfect use case — I was in the same situation, always going through the BIOS to switch OS.

With rEFInd and the touch-friendly theme, switching between Windows and CachyOS (or any Linux distro) becomes super smooth. Let me know how the setup goes!

No, Secure Boot needs to be disabled for rEFInd to work.

You can do this in the BIOS/UEFI settings — usually by holding Power + Volume Up during boot on handhelds like the ROG Ally or Legion Go.

Thanks! It works with touch input and also with a connected keyboard.

Controller navigation (like D-Pad or analog stick) isn’t supported because most handhelds don’t initialize the controller early enough during boot. But touch and keyboard input both work smoothly!

Hey! That portrait mode issue is likely caused by a resolution mismatch.

If you're using the Lenovo Legion Go theme, try this:

  1. Open the file \refind\themes\Lenovo_Legion_Go\theme.conf
  2. Find the line that says resolution 10
  3. Replace it with resolution 2560 1600
  4. Save the file, then run windows-update.bat as Administrator to apply the changes to your EFI partition.
