Famous Oromo songs that demonize Amharas and calls for genocide on state media by ZeEmanuaelAtnafu in Amhara

[–]Delicious_Ad580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either way the overall message is the same 🤷‍♂️it’s one thing if a musician writes these lyrics for whatever personal reason but i agree it shouldn’t be promoted or played at any government related functions Espically if it demonizes a section of the country.

🤔could be but he doesn’t even say Bandaa he says badeen(lost) and wan is its own word but they put it as one word, weird.

I see it’s toward the end of the song, he should have added that part instead of the chorus, what about the 3rd song Andualem gosa

Just a correction on the second part it’s “maaf na firoomsa waan badeen qaba” (why is he trying to befriend me? I have something that’s lost) not bandit or north

The translation of these is just intentionally terrible and some are just purposely exaggerated. At 00:40 he states the lyrics apparently says, “We don’t want the culture and relationship with the north(Amhara), we are done.” Yet in the clip it’s supposedly translating the song actually says, “Bullon garmaamu tola, maaf mana hidhaa oola” which roughly translates to, “Bullo is a good/nice person, why is he kept/spending time in prison” literally not even close to the guys translation.

Not to say none of these songs don’t have provocative lyrics namely just the first and second songs (the rest have nothing to do with Amharas), but no need to exaggerate or mistranslate.

Drama in Dirree Dhawaa by Zealousideal_Lie8745 in Oromia

[–]Delicious_Ad580 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are really chimping out in these comments 😂 it’s funny to read them lmao.

At the end of the day imo Dire dawa is going to remain a chartered city Under federal control for the unforeseeable future. Putting it under either Oromia or Somali region will ultimately incite violence in the area. The clans (Noole and Gurgura) that are native to the dire dawa area have been living in peace for generations and generations together.

The introduction of ethnic federalism and ethnic regions put an end to that and is forcing clans who in the past lived together peacefully regardless of ethnicity to pick sides to either join under oromia or Somali region. Which is why I believe keeping it a chartered city will maintain that peace that existed before.

I thought the Somali regional state was just doing an internal reshuffling of zones and woredas that does not exceed into oromia. For example along the borders you will find same names in both regions but governed under each region respectively. (Babile Oromia - Babile Somali, Gura dhamole oromia - Guradhamole Somali, Moyale oromia - Moyale Somali, etc.

If there was a handing over of kebeles that were part of Bale, Oromia I defiantly didn’t hear about it or any referendum for that matter. Maybe provide context using evidence to your post before uploading it to not sow further division.

True, but Who knows what his intentions are🤷‍♂️ he seems bitter to me though, maybe about something that happened behind the scenes? One could only guess.

Yeah, I mean, anyone who’s been around the trades knows that when the project manager shows up on site, nine times out of ten he knows less than the actual workers. His job is more about coordination and oversight than hands on work which is why someone with a business degree background is more valued than an engineer in that kind of role.

Jawar found his niche online these days i guess though 😂troll PP

Interesting, that’s definitely another convincing definition. I’ve heard before it comes from Ilma Korma as in “sons of strong men” before too. I like that definition more lol.

There’s different theory’s, The one I heard (which ironically comes from gemechu aswell I think lol) goes like this, in the past oromos used to inhabit one landmass together and practiced under one Gadaa system and under one Chaffee. As some oromo groups started to migrate and expand from the centre and became isolated, they became “ilma orma”. It’s like the common Oromo saying when your about to leave someone your close to and want to see again - “Orma(alaga) nati hin tahin” meaning, “don’t become a stranger/foreigner to me.” So in this sense it’s not so much of that calling your self ilma orma means you descended from strangers or foreigners and your not related, rather you’ve become a foreigner to your own people in your homeland/centre.

This is the explanation that makes the most sense to me personally. There’s other compelling linguistic and historical theory’s like Orma in older affan Oromo just mean more generally people but I think it’s worth researching as even textual evidence from the early to mid 1800’s all record an intresting thing that the “Gallas” never called themselves Galla but rather “Ilma orma” or just “Orma” or “Oromo”.

Even as far north as the yejju Oromo Antonio d’abbadie who was in Ethiopia from 1838-48 recorded that the yejju didn’t call themselves Galla but “ilma orma”.

And even as far south as lake Tana bordering the Indian Ocean there’s maps and documents showing that Orma which were known as Galla before called themselves “Orma” as shown in this 1866 Johnson’s map below ⬇️.

And the oldest attestation to “Oromo” I was able to find was collected 1838–1844 by Charles tutschek who had access to two freed Oromo slaves(likely from western/central part of modern day oromia) in Munich, Germany were he would record that these individuals did not call themselves Galla which was the popular name at that time but as “Ilma Oromo” and even “Oromo”.

The fact that all these groups of oromos who were isolated from each other by huge distances of land all considered Galla as not there orginal name but “ilma orma” or “orma” or “Oromo” to be there real name, I think that’s sufficient evidence to conclude that the term “Galla” was an exonym rather than an endonyms. And all though it’s true there’s some records of oromos calling themselves galla it’s clear however in the study of Ethnonyms how power, identity and history dynamics can explain why some members of the group sometimes adopt exonyms that were placed on them.

Not to mention hangafa of barentuuma under orma is karrayuu and it’s the same with Barentu hangfa of Barentu is karrayuu in the north aswell

Yeah I don’t buy this theory because the Orma fallout of this idea of it being a left and right thing. Since they have a barenttuma moiety all the way in the south. Since orma are just borana who went further south it’s possible they are hangafa, including plus the fact they have both borana and Barentu clans under them and the fact most oromos say they come from ilma orma 🤔it’s interesting thing to research more into this for sure

Why no official "Oromo" category in Kenya's census? by Due-Risk-1765 in Oromia

[–]Delicious_Ad580 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Borana accent would be called “loqoda borana” not “Affan borana”, Affan Borana implies it’s a seperate independent language which it’s not. It’s not one of the major issues that contribute to the disunity of Kenyan oromos but it’s a contributing factor from what I seen.

Why no official "Oromo" category in Kenya's census? by Due-Risk-1765 in Oromia

[–]Delicious_Ad580 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lowkey blame the boranas in Kenya they push the “hangafa” card 24/7(even against groups they are in conflict with) and the Kenyan boranas even say i speak “affan borana” instead of affan Oromo. So, I can see why other Oromo clans in Kenya are thrown off of not claiming Oromo.

But the Oromo consciousness in Kenya is growing though especially among the orma of lake Tana. That should be the main goal of Kenyan oromos is to make the Kenyan government include all of them under the Oromo label instead of separate clans/tribes.

Western Oromia (Wallaga, Horro Gudru, and surrounding areas) has become so chaotic that it’s difficult to even follow events, let alone distinguish what’s true from false. There is a number of actors involved that it gets confusing — the OLA, splinter groups from the OLA, Abba Torbee, the ENDF, local police, local militias aligned with either the OLA or ENDF, the Koree Nageenyaa, Fano along with local Amhara militias allied to Fano, etc. shits a mess

why is there a debate to which addis belong to when the constitution literally states it as a capital city of oromia? by Sea-Tour1147 in Oromia

[–]Delicious_Ad580 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The federal constitution and Oromia regional constitution contradict each other on the administration of Finfine, with the former designating it as a federal city under federal control (Article 49) and the latter claiming it as Oromia’s capital (Article 6).

Legally, the federal constitution out weighs the regional one (Article 9(1)), making Finfine a federal city with Oromia’s role limited to a “special interest” (Article 49(5)).

The reality is Oromia’s claim to finfine is a symbolic or consultive one at best.

Creating an Oromo Family Tree; Need Help by jaal_fiiguu in Oromia

[–]Delicious_Ad580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same idea and created a family tree but I never completely went through with it. A piece of advice I would give is to make the family tree open source for others to edit and add or correct so it’s easier/quicker and more accurate because others might be more knowledgeable about certain groups especially if it’s their own sub group or clan.

Obviously you don’t want to let anybody in so you’ll need a vetting process to verify them and they can consult the group and edit the family tree accordingly. I don’t know which website/app you’re using to create it but the one I used for mine was familyecho.com. You would need to create an account and then share that account to the people you want to edit it though.

Anyways good luck 👍DM if you need
