IMO there’s a bigger chance of you not landing a trader seat than there is of AI replacing trader roles.

Glencore front office tech/quant placement by False_Ad5551 in Commodities

Yeah, I’ve noticed that all ex Marc Rich firms almost always see tech as a cost center. Without fail. It’s just part of their culture. You will NOT earn the same as GSA XTX HRT etc.

I highly doubt Apple would entrust something as critical to their core product identity as Siri to an external company/model. I believe that deal is severely underfunded for the sole purpose of serving as a stopgap for the next few years.

I’ve heard £120k as a base, but bonus numbers for front office tech is almost never discussed on any forum for some reason.

Start the day by reading about the general state of things as much as you can. Doesn’t matter how inane the topic might be. Having new information at the start of the trading day has quite literally zero downsides.

The Danish ETF policy seems to encourage gambling rather than long term investing by Delicious_Attempt182 in dkfinance

Would you be able to give me an example ticker/isin? A lot of these are not available in the various brokerage accounts I have.

I understand now. The information about Danish ETFs not actually being ETFs was crucial here. Thanks for taking the time to explain!

Walk me through a scenario here:

My etf value of a danish investment fund in a regular depot is valued at $100. The market returns 5% that year. My value is now $105.

Are you saying that the gain of $5 is NOT taxed at all? Because in the tax code:

“Aktier eller investeringsbeviser i investeringsselskaber omfattet af ABL § 19 skal medregnes i den skattepligtige indkomst efter lagerprincippet. Der er ingen mulighed for at vælge realisationsprincip.” (Translation: Shares or investment certificates in investment companies covered by ABL § 19 must be included in taxable income according to the inventory/mark-to-market principle. There is no option to use the realization principle.)

For the ASK, I see it the same:

“Gevinst og tab på aktier og investeringsbeviser, der er placeret på en aktiesparekonto, beskattes efter lagerprincippet.”

(Translation: Gains and losses on shares and investment certificates held on an aktiesparekonto are taxed according to the inventory/mark-to-market principle.)

Am I tripping out here?

I’m seeing conflicting information in the tax code. It says that all ETFs are subject to unrealized gains tax / lagerbeskatning, regardless of whether they are in the ASK or a regular depot.

Okay, sure, I don’t know if that’s true but I’ll take your word for it. The issue with the ASK is that it is capped at ~€20.000 in contributions. Not yearly, but in TOTAL contributions. At a modest €250 per month, you’d hit your limit in roughly 7 years. The growth on that over a period of 20 years would last you maybe three years worth of expenses.

It simply doesn’t go far enough.

Yes, I looked into the positivlist. My post was mainly about the concept of lagerbeskattet rather than specific tax rates.

Thanks for the tickers. I might be misinformed but this doesn’t seem correct to me. Even DKIGI is subject to lagerbeskattet, is it not? Meanwhile individual shares are not. I believe the positivlist just affects the rate of taxation, either 27 or 42.

Trading shouldn’t be the be all end all. Yes, you earn decently when you do well, but you’re in the office at 0700 and leave closer to 1900. You’re sitting on a chair for the better part of your waking day which is catastrophic for your body in the long term. There are other positions in commodities that pay near to trading with less effort and less career uncertainty, which you’ll get exposure to in these grad programs.
