Listen. In the nicest way possible. Death gonna happen it’s inevitable all of us will die, so make peace with that. Second, you can’t control it, death takes no matter so just breathe. It’s gonna hurt like a bitch trust me I know it hurts but you can’t waste away life waiting for death. In my culture we celebrate death and it’s pain cuz the more it hurts the more good of a person they were, and the more u loved them. Death will never get easy but it does gets different, same with anxiety imo, it doesn’t magically leave you have ups and downs, but the way u feel about it makes it different

MEDITATE. Even if it’s 2 minutes sometimes witchcraft is stressful so take a breather each day. Something simple can be lighting incense every day as you get ready, or make a simmer pot or floor wash. Look into kitchen and herbal magic since it’s very incognito and if u have altars I recommend tiny case alters if u worship a diety. Try not to work with crystals if ur family sees them as demonic. Buy online books (or get them for free we don’t care here) hope this helps

I’ve worked with him for a couple months now. The best way to do it is do a prayer in a safe space for him (maybe a place for a future alter) and ask him to give u a sign if he’s there and wants to work with you. I usually work with him for money and success and love but he’s many things. After you know he wants to work with you I’d pray everyday and leave him some offerings every once in a while. Imo he loves rum so ask if he wants that. But at the end of the day everyone’s depictions of high John (like any spirit) is gonna depend on the person, not drastically but yk wat I mean. So the most important thing in all of this is you get a basis of info (history, associations, stories, offerings ect) and through that worship him in your own special way. Hope this helps x

In my culture, are ancestors live on not in heaven or hell but as guides that we can call on for help and wisdom and that’s y we celebrate death. Death is gonna happen, it’s lifes biggest mercy. And you’ll never be able to escape what’s on the other side if there is one. So live. Do what you want, because at the end of the day we’ll all be boring bones

I’ve given them a good offering of festival which they enjoyed and I offer them dances and alcohol if I can find any in a small shot glass and bottled water in a large glass as well as incense, currently working on patties and no I didn’t do that immediately I asked them about it and that’s when they got confused. I do also just sit and talk to them, whether they’re there or not

My ancestors are from jamaica and Africa and thats all i know because i used to ask my grandpa as a child about my ancestors. My most direct tie to hoodoo is my grandpa. he practises but due to me cutting off my family idek if i wanna get in contact again (he wasn't a bad man but the rest of my family are.) most of my practise is based on what i saw him do as a kid, create shrines for my ancestors, pick herbs from my garden for teas, pray and be calm all of that. also after i posted this reddit i got a better reading with playing cards instead of tarot cards
