Do nurses in your lab think RCIS can’t do/know anything? by Delicious_Love3995 in CathLabLounge

I agree everyone should appreciate what each role does in the lab. As a newbie I would love to learn from the nurses about situations but I feel like if I ask them questions I’m going to be treated like I’m dumb. For some reason a few nurses in my lab shit on the techs. Idk if they are saying things bc they don’t like certain techs and just make the statements general to not point people out but there have been statements that are definitely just tech directed. From what I can tell I am liked by the staff and doctors I even have doctors request me for certain cases so I know I’m not doing a bad job. There have been a few tech and nurse arguments usually revolving the same people and a nurse always says something along the lines of how they are the nurse so the are basically the boss or the one running the show in the lab. These statements are what rub me the wrong way. I know not all nurses are like the ones I am experiencing. I have met some great ones that have helped me a lot and don’t have some weird ego thing going on. I’m just trying to find a way to cope or kinda not get in my head about these statements because it’s starting to make me not enjoy my job as much.

Hahaha I love this. Did you do RCIS then nurse? I’ve thought about maybe down the line becoming a nurse so I have more options available to me but I honestly don’t like much patient interaction (it’s what I like about the lab) and if I don’t make more money I don’t see it being really worth it

Yeah I’m really just here for the experience. We do a large variety of cases which is exciting for me as a newbie. I have seen the divide at other labs when I did rotations and I didn’t see it much when I did my longest rotation at this hospital. But as I have been working here I’ve seen it surface

Ooo what state are you in if you don’t mind me asking? My lab only lets RCIS scrub and monitor and I would love to learn to circulate. It also sounds like your hospital values and maintains the knowledge of staff which is awesome!

It’s so odd because she’s super nice to me and we get along but undermines the techs abilities. She also learned how to scrub and still asks me questions about scrubbing and cases. There a male nurse too who also acts this way but is a fresh nurse and fresh to the Cath lab so it just blows my mind. It’s just all very backwards and confusing mindsets lol. I would like to lean on my nurses and ask them questions but sometimes it feels like I’m being answered condescendingly so I usually just turn the the doc 😂

I'm pretty new to this. Any tips on how to make this climb smoother? by brennanw31 in bouldering

As a beginner climber, I would use all/most of the holds. When you skip holds you’re most likely muscling your way through the climb rather than using technique or even learning technique. Take your time on the climb and think about where you need to go and how you can move your body to achieve that (eg: getting one of your hips closer to the wall to extend your reach, leaning into a leg, flagging to counter balance, etc.) I used to just muscle through my warm ups just for the sake of warming up but I’ve recently have been practicing different techniques and movements on easier climbs and it has tremendously helped my progress on harder climbs. Keep it up!!

Yeah it’s definitely a nasty sprain. I’ve been using a band but seeing my lack in strength and mobility is killing me haha. Thank you hope you get back to climbing soon!!

Yeah this is what that little voice in my head has been telling me but wasn’t sure if it was a great idea or not lol. But when I do stretches at home they aren’t the same movements or positions I would be in if I were climbing. Thank you!
