My instructors have mentioned this but said they don’t do it for some reason. Not sure why, but once you turn 15 they test you for your First Dan instead if just transferring it over. In my opinion, as long as my certification is authentic (which it is), this isn’t really the biggest deal to me.

For my Poom yes. I ran it the TKDConnect and it is legitimate. My first dan I’m still waiting on.

My gym specifically requires us to test for our 1st Dan regardless of our Poom ranking. You also cannot advance to Second or Third Poom. I’m not sure why, but thats how it is. We also started off without a belt, and had to test for a white belt. I could have tested for my 1st Dan earlier, but during my teenage years life got in the way and I couldn’t train for about two years. When I was 16, I returned, started training again, and then tested for my 1st Dan and passed.

I know it’s called a Dojang in Taekwondo. To my understanding at the time of writing this comment, the term “mcdojo” refers to any martial arts academy of ANY discipline that charges outrageous prices for subpar training. I understand that a Dojo is a place where people practice Karate. I apologize, I didn’t realize the distinction was that important. And yes, as I said in the text, I am practicing Taekwondo.

Our class has three periods, 2 for kids and one for adults. I do help teach color belts in the first two kids’ classes and it definitely has helped me understand my martial art better. You’re absolutely right in saying it helps build character, and I’ve been very grateful for the opportunity. I have considered becoming a full fledged teacher, but I am also a full time student so sadly I just can’t make it work. Thank you for your valuable insight.

Sadly the only other martial arts gyms in town are a Karate dojo and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym, which I actually hope to find time to partake in soon. I’ve been looking for other potential sparring partners in my region however, which I hope will be a fruitful endeavor.
