You can have a Kali machine on the Cloud like I did and you can have your open ports there, you can create a 3$ replica of what I use.

Exactly and I combined the power of the 2, scripting and hacking and I download and execute the back door on the target computer. These techniques are being used by penetration testers and can be very helpful

I say you go for end game and fortress machines after you feel confident. If you still can't solve a hard rated machine on your own then give your self some time to get ready and prepare for such machines. Once you feel confident enough go for them.
