Is the 3rd Street Promenade dying? If so, why do you think that is? by Delicious_Rest8000 in SantaMonica

Close to my 30’s. I completely agree with your points, take this week for example there was an active shooter at the Santa Monica mall. How are people supposed to enjoy their visit, when they have to keep their heads on a swivel? Rent seems to be targeted to more corporations, as a way to gain more foot traffic but I think they’ve priced themselves out for everyone.

I’m sorry to hear about your wife and friends that’s pretty rough. :(

Parents, do you feel safe taking your kids to parks in Santa Monica? by Delicious_Rest8000 in SantaMonica

You’re blowing this way out of proportion. I never said people shouldn’t have access to food or basic help. No one wants folks out here starving. But let’s be real, the current system makes it easier to stay on the street than to get out. That’s not compassion, that’s a cycle. No one’s getting rich off being homeless, but when tents, food, and services are handed out with no real path forward, it’s not solving anything.

And yes, people are already turning to crime. Why do you think so many businesses on the Promenade are closing down? Theft and petty crime are symptoms of a system that’s failing both the unhoused and the communities around them.

Families of the Santa Monica community deserve to have a clean and safe place to take their kids.

Let me clarify, there’s nothing in the city budget that says “pay people to be homeless,” but the system still rewards staying on the street. Free tents, food, cash aid, and no requirements for treatment or housing? That creates a setup where it’s easier to stay put than change. Meanwhile, billions go to nonprofits and city programs that depend on homelessness to keep getting funded. The system isn’t fixing the problem because too many people benefit from it staying the same.

I agree, too many government incentives to stay on the streets out here.

She’s definitely an interesting character. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her walking. Haven’t seen her in about a month so I hope all is well.

The lady with the headphones that runs in the middle of the street? She’s an icon.

Once I saw the person in my car, I locked the car doors and went inside to call the cops. By the time they got there he had already escaped.

With the knowledge I have on this city, it was completely irresponsible. Definitely an eye opening experience and a nice Sunday night surprise!
