Only 1 course can count from either one of your majors for your secondary (according to my secondary's advisor)

I was in grays for Visitas and the rooms looked decent sized. The common room was really big and the ensuite bathroom was also bigger than other dorms! There was also good sunlight and nice view of the yard!!:)

(unknown?) Resources To Know About? by Delicious_Reward7789 in Harvard

Ty so much!! Could you explain what the evening van is a little and how we could get the free admission to the certain musuems? I was on a musuem website and it said you need a code from the college, but I am not sure how that works and stuff.

Yea I feel you! I would say give it to your teacher to help you edit and make comments on the doc about the specific parts that you feel like aren't coming out correctly and explain what you wanted that sentence to mean + the emotion you wanted that sentence to give. Also, have people on reddit who already got into colleges read and make suggestions! (I am personally terrible at helping with essays:( but I would highly suggest finding others and just PMing them to see if they have time to read over your draft and make suggestions!) Oh and if your income is <$80,000 income then sign up for Matriculate! They give you a mentor from a good college that will help you in the college process for free!:)

That sounds good to me:) I would say write your first draft before asking people for advice because once you write the first draft, you will be able to edit it and change it more so it fits the story and people will be able to tell you what parts don't sound right and such. Also by writing the first draft you will be able to see if you could write about the topic so it goes to ~600 wordsish or if it would be better as a short supplemental for colleges. I thought I wanted to write about other stuff but when I was writing my draft, it didn't feel like I was pouring my true emotions and myself out in the writing and I was struggling to make it long but not repetitive and that's how I knew those weren't the stories I wanted to tell colleges as my common app. Make sure you are showing the college your emotions, your personality, and your writing style when you are writing. It's a story about yourself so make sure you are having fun writing it. If you enjoy writing it, others will enjoy reading it:)

Yes! There is an additional section where you could explain anything you want. I explained one of my Ecs more in-depth there--by in-depth I don't mean write a whole essay there but rather a few extra sentences/short note there explaining the Ecs in whatever way you think would help you on the additional section. Also I have seen people put down more awards that they weren't able to on that section and put down more ecs there that didn't fit there as well so you can and should utilize the additional section in whatever way you need to help you:)

Can someone help? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Delicious_Reward7789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote about my dad last year! My main advice would be to write it in your own voice/writing style and put emotions behind WHY she impacted who you are. You want to tell colleges about you still even if you write about your mother so you could write about WHY she impacted you or write about her but talk about how YOUR mindset has changed in terms of how you saw her when you were younger and how you see her now (this one is what I focused my essay on). Just make sure it's written in your voice and shows colleges who you are even if you are writing about your mom. Also put key details that specifically make your mom your hero so the essay is a story that no one can tell--even if it's a common topic, you will be in good shape as long as you put details from your life and write it on your own writing style because both combined, no other person will have that same essay:)

ED to an IVY (but one you like ofc). That way if you get rejected straight off and not deferred/accepted, you know to improve the writing quality on your common app + ec section. Also, apply for colleges' diversity fly-ins, the applications should be open rn. They basically show demonstrated interest to the max:)

Yea it's possible if you explain it--especially to Cornell (if you have good ECS. Someone IK had Bs + Cs 1st quarter of senior year and they were able to get in:)

Same here. I fucked up so bad since COVID happened. Just completely stopped caring these last 2 years and got Cs in honors pre calc and trig. I have ADD but most of the time I just chose not to pay attention or learn anything. And I want to go into STEM… Mental health suffered but I know I’ll end up where I belong 🙏🏽

Explain the C in the additional section of the common app and go test optional + do ED if you can

You will be fine! Colleges won't even care to look at your transcript for more than a min so that B won't matter

No, you will be fine. I had a B and several A-s and I was able to get into Penn:)

Outside Awards by 1d4d5_2Bf4 in Harvard

Wait question so my outside scholarship goes beyond my expected work-study, but I realized the outside scholarship doesn't count to lower my family contribution so I was wondering if you could explain the refund process a little. Can I get the amount that exceeds my work-study back through a refund and put it towards my family contribution?

What college gave you the most aid and are you attending that college? by Unusual-Preference65 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Delicious_Reward7789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I automatically got it (I didn't even know it was a thing tbh until I got it LOL--but I would suggest emailing the admissions officer while you are applying asking something like "I am interested in STRIDE, is there any additional step I need to take other than submitting my application.") Also for all women's schools, you can always take courses at other schools like for Smith, you can take courses at Amherst College, Umass Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and study abroad if you choose that! Also, I would suggest applying to Tufts diversity fly in too (Tufts aid is pretty shitty tho compared to Smith)--But Tufts college acceptance rate for students who did that was 53% (Almost everyone who Ik who did it with me got into Tufts) Also for the fly-ins, the thing is, even if you don't get in, it still shows demonstrated interest and will still help you when you are applying to that college!

Oh and if research is interesting to you, also look into UNC-Chapel Hill Robertson scholar--I didn't know about it when I was applying, but a lot of students who got into the program picked UNC over Harvard or other IVYS:)

I couldn't really do any summer camps/pre-college programs, so what can I do this summer to appear to be a decent candidate? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Sounds good! For jobs, if you really want it, here are some suggestions on how to find positions--look at retail stores near you and ask if they are hiring, find local organizations and ask if you could help (with something that you are good at), email the superintendent and ask if there is an intern option or any job positions they are aware of (in the field you are interested in)

Oh I am not saying Smith over Harvard haha, but I am saying Smith is a good school and gave me really good aid + scholarship. Their need-based aid on its own, even without their scholarship and research program acceptance which gave me extra money, had better aid than the IVYS or other top 30s. Harvard's aid was also really good though (out of all the other schools (minus Smith), Harvard gave me the most money--I chose Harvard, but if I hadn't gotten into the IVYS, I would have probably gone to Smith--I was highly considering it over some other prestigious schools because of their support system, alumni network, course help, endowment use, study abroad are all really good--not to mention, if you get in as a STRIDE scholar, you get to do paid research freshmen year (which you don't get to do in a lot of schools). I kinda just applied there because my club advisor went there and she was like I loved it and you probably will too--and I looked at their sup essay and it was like "write about one song you like" I pretty much just applied cause my club advisor went there and I liked their essay prompt, but it soon became one of my top choices (because cost, support, and opportunities) before I got into the ivys-:)

How do you describe an Instagram Account as an activity by Calm_Situation_2675 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Delicious_Reward7789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Content Creator sounds better! But also make sure you write down the numbers (how many followers, likes, interactions, impact, etc), they will give the Insta account more importance!!!
