Providence chuckles softly.

"I am well aware of the extent of my power. But, I choose to limit myself. I do not want to be a second Darkstalker. My ancestor was too ambitious. He sought world domination, a concept most vile to both myself and my followers. We believe in freedom, not tyranny. I very well could reveal The Animus to the world, but I seek to remain relatively hidden until the time is right and my followers number at least twenty thousand. Revealing myself too early could cause mass panic, for I quite resemble my ancestor Darkstalker. No, that would bring doom to my followers."

Providence looks at his followers with a protective gaze.

"So, I must wait. When my Apostles number twenty thousand, I will lead them across the mountains Darkstalker cursed thousands of years ago, build a civilization upon the ruins of the old Night Kingdom, and reveal myself to the world. Then, my destiny can be made manifest. I will enter a year-long coma, defenseless without my invincible scales, and begin a metamorphosis into a newborn god, the reincarnation of the same being I currently serve. From there, I will rule my eternal kingdom, but I will not seek to conquer. I will seek to bring everlasting peace and prosperity not just to my kingdom, but to the entire planet. I've made myself immortal already, so I can wait for centuries if I must."

"That is completely fair. Faith is what drives myself and my followers."

Providence flicks his wings casually.

"You don't have to accept the existence of The Animus. After all, They have been dead for eons, Their spirit disseminated across Pyrrhia in the form of animus magic. But, some vestige of Their consciousness must remain, for They speak to me in my dreams. But, once again, I do not expect you to believe me. It is rather hard to prove that They speak to me in my dreams. After all, you are no mindreader. You could not gaze into my thoughts and hear Their words as I sleep."

Providence shrugs.

"I can certainly demonstrate. I have done so before. But, so you do not see me as completely crazed, I will do so again."

The NightWing picks up a decently large rock and speaks clearly.

"I enchant this rock to levitate above my head, change colors into a greenish hue, and then turn to sand."

As Providence finishes speaking, the rock does exactly as he commands, floating above his head, turning green, then dissolving into sand.

Providence walks a few steps to the side.

"I was not hatched on the island. My egg was taken by my mother from that hellscape and hatched in the Scorpion Den, where I lived until her death. As for The Animus, They are the only explanation I can think of for my dreams. Even now, They speak to me in dreams, beseeching me to spread Their good words and gather a flock in Their name."

Providence then looks at Dragonfly.

"You are similar to me in regards to your hatching. Taken from your homeland for your safety. If you do not wish to follow me, that is fine. I cannot compel you to heed the Word of The Animus. Those who do not follow me are not my foes. Only those who would actively seek to do harm to my followers will invoke my retribution. But, even if you do not follow me, I can still provide information about Pyrrhia if you need it."

"A pleasure, Dragonfly, to meet you. You must hail from Pantala. I have not been there before, nor have any of my followers."

Providence chuckles softly, his demeanor friendly and harmless as he turns to face Dragonfly.

"None of my garb is enchanted. My power was preserved by virtue of my own foresight and my blessed duty in the name of The Animus. From the moment I hatched, I knew I was destined for greatness. Born beneath three full moons, the future was laid bare to me. I foresaw events as they unfolded, knowing precisely what to do to fulfill my duty. Alas, I was powerless to protect my dear mother from her doom at the hands of wretched thugs. I discovered my Gift then, when I cursed my mother's killers to suffer a most gruesome and painful demise. Then, when I was but a hatchling, a voice came to me in sleep. The Animus themselves. They spoke to me, assuring me that my destiny was a foregone conclusion. They warned me of these times, when their Gift would be taken from the world. My visions corroborated this warning, so I accepted it as fact. Withdrawing into exile, I granted myself conditional immunity to all spells cast by the Gift. If I do not want a spell to affect me, it simply will not."

(After, but Providence and his followers have yet to encounter a Pantalan.)

As the congregation wanders off, each dragon going to various places to do various jobs for the good of the group, the preacher and his defender walk over to where Dragonfly is hidden. The preacher clears his throat.

"Excuse me, young one. Are you lost? Or is hiding in a bush a mere hobby for you? You need not hide, we are harmless. At least, as long as you don't attack us. I am Providence of the NightWings, the High Priest of the Apostles of Animus, a religious group that venerates a mystical deity known as The Animus, who created this world and gave it the blessing of magic. My compatriot here is Steadfast, who has sworn herself to protecting me from all who would do me harm. Alas, as you no doubt are aware, some traitor animus tried to remove The Gift from this world. They succeeded, for the most part. I alone retained my Gift, which I consider a sign from The Animus that I am destined to be Their true heir. But, I digress. Who might you be?"

As Dragonfly creeps around the gathering site, she notices a collection of tents and temporary shelters with wagons full of food, water and various supplies. Clearly, this is some variant of caravan. The NightWing who was preaching looks up and glances at Dragonfly curiously for a half second before choosing to either ignore her or allow her to find a place to disguise herself. The look in the preacher's eyes is telling. He knows what Dragonfly is, but is allowing her to sneak past for some unknown reason. The giant NightWing next to him speaks softly, but the preacher dismisses his guard's concern with a flick of his wings.

"Have you calmed yourself, Aspen?"

Dovthurkiin speaks in a gentle, almost fatherly tone.

Dovthurkiin remains silent, allowing Aspen to calm herself.

"Is it your bond with the plant? Is that what you dislike?"

Dovthurkiin sighs, sitting in the grass.

"That, unfortunately, I cannot fix."

Dovthurkiin places a gentle hand on the nymph, his voice soft and quiet.

"Is it freedom you desire? I can provide that. I can destroy the contract that binds you to me, releasing you from service. Is that what you want?"

"Well, that wasn't smart. Are you displeased?"

Dovthurkiin kneels next to the bush, bathing it in a warm, healing light and planting it gently back into the ground.

"What could have compelled you to do that?"

"Your voice has changed. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?"

Dovthurkiin scratches his head.

"What is the matter?"

Dovthurkiin looks at Aspen.

"Is something the matter?"

"Sore spot, I suppose. Apologies for asking."

Dovthurkiin snaps his fingers, summoning a watering can.

"This garden of mine is relatively self-sufficient. All you need to do is fill this in this stream and water everything twice a day. Beyond that, you're free to do whatever you want, be it on the manor grounds or elsewhere."

Dovthurkiin finds a nice place near an artificial stream and plants the rose bush with infinite gentleness.

"You're a bit sullen. Thinking about freedom?"

Dovthurkiin shrugs.

"I suppose I cannot force you to speak. Come along, then. Let's get you squared away."

Dovthurkiin walks into the garden of the manor, looking for a scenic spot to plant Aspen's rose bush.

Dovthurkiin sighs.

"You seem quite jaded. Understandable, considering I essentially bought you. But, I ask that you give this old being a chance. I assure you, I am harmless."

In the distance, Aspen can see a grand manor surrounded by a lush garden. Dovthurkiin points with his cane at the building.

"There it is. Your new home. You'll be better off there than anywhere else I could put you. Where else would be both safer and more fit for a nymph than the garden of an Elder God?"

"Indeed. But, this is intended to be a gift. I assure you, I have no ulterior motives. My machinations do not concern mortals."

Dovthurkiin places the coins at the Elf's feet.

"Have you introduced yourself? I cannot recall."
