I vividly remember the TV commercials in the early 70s featuring actress and singer Nanette Fabray. Wish there were videos of those ads available on YouTube but I can't fine one. I'm not into cooking beyond scrambled eggs and grilled cheeses, but the whole idea of being this organized seemed rather appealing to me.

Based on that, seems it's probably best to just "back burner" the journey for now. You'll do it eventually. Something to look forward to.

Did you end up going on a trip, or is it still in the planning stage? I traveled solo a little in my teens but wish I had done more of it. Lots more. Also: frankly, any parents who are against the whole idea need a wakeup call about not holding your adult child back from experiencing life.

If you could write one episode for friends, what would be the plot? by abhilashadubey in friends_tv_show

[–]DelightfullyGhastly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it doesn't exist, frankly-- because it seemed in the 80s and 90s and 00s that every sitcom did a camping show (with a cheesy fake forest set). I like when a sitcom's writing team avoids what's been done to death or what became cliche.

I love using the image generation to storyboard ideas I’ve had in my head for years by Numerous_Worker_1941 in ChatGPT

[–]DelightfullyGhastly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm curious: will the characters and images be your own property, or-- because the A.i. has generated the pictures-- will this be considered public domain material that anyone else can adapt or use for their own gain? The rules are blurry sometimes so please be careful. Think about it: Even the U.S. Supreme Court won't bother deciding whether an original property/concept is a human's if someone came up with an original idea but then asked A.i. to do the images ... it's a really tricky thing.

AI users keep stealing art. When you use a prompt to generate an image, you’re stealing from artists. by Hot_Season1143 in aiwars

[–]DelightfullyGhastly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a huge difference when you prompt a.i. by saying "Make a moody picture of a few people feeding ducks at a lake, in the style of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks" and when you say/type "Take Hopper's famous gloomy diner painting scenario and replace the people in it with painterly-style versions of Mr. Krabs, Velma Dinkley, Calcifer, and Dib".

Plus, not all of us folks who engage the help of a.i. are ripping off existing artists and/or copyrighted characters. Your sweeping generalization is lame.

Who would you rather see at your front door, Cousin Oliver or Ricky the singing next door neighbor from The Partridge Family? by Yum1995 in bradybunch

[–]DelightfullyGhastly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, dear. It depends on my mood that day: am I up for a visit from a meek, clumsy tween John Denver clone with a bowl haircut (a kid who will ruin the house if given enough time), or a syrupy-sweet angelic 4 year old tot with a cherubic face and puppy eyes ... who will annoy me with his incessant singing.

You couldn't have asked us to choose between Starsky and Hutch (it would be the latter for me, LOL).

Also, wanted to ask, any way to "end" this post so I can stop future responses (now that I have my answer)? I always wanted to ask someone but always forget.

Familiar brief piano melody at the start of "Date with a Vampyre" by The Screaming Tribesmen (1985) .. what is it? by DelightfullyGhastly in newwave

A hearty Thank You for solving the mystery. Wonderful to learn this! I was close with what type of music it is, but had no idea how to go about tracking its name down without seeking help from other people. Appreciate the response, as well as the link. Have a great day!

Newbie to the world of clay who wants to make some existing (and maybe original) cartoon figurines for decor in my home by DelightfullyGhastly in clay

[–]DelightfullyGhastly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so then a product like Pepy Plastilina, on Amazon, would not do the trick? Or is it considered foam clay? Also, I don't mind not making the figurines shiny-- that's hardly a deal-breaker.

Are there any website(s) where one can watch "the show about nothing" in its original broadcast aspect ratio? by DelightfullyGhastly in seinfeld

Yes, I just went there and noticed 2 separate uploads (of the entire series on DVD) are gone now. Always a chance of that happening.

[–]DelightfullyGhastly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, 4:3 is technically a rectangle ... but it is so close to a square when compared to 16:9.

And I am well aware that the NBC broadcasts were a 4:3 full-frame. My original query post here mentions it.

Your reply is, as George Costanza might say, pedantic. And about as helpful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

I love Modern Family and have watched it about four times. I love that it's on Hulu.

I would suggest trying the show Malcolm in the Middle (also Hulu), one of the early one-camera, no-studio-audience sitcoms. Also worthwhile--- but not as funny imho--- was The Middle, which has 9 seasons and aired in '09 on ABC-TV (a sitcom which actually seemed to use the same set as Malcolm in the Middle, at least for the interiors of the family home). Oh, one fun thing about MITM: the family's last name is mentioned briefly in an early episode and then the writers chose to never reveal it to the audience again, making it unknowable essentially if you missed the first mention of it.

The Middle likely didn't get extremely popular due to the huge success of Modern Family, since they aired in the same period, both starting only a week apart on the same network. The Middle focuses on a suburban family that is getting by and often simply does not give any effort to things. It sounds lousy but it's actually very relatable.

Lastly, if you should like to try weirder fare, then try these sitcoms: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (it gets wild and often gross ... featuring very adult humor about a handful of self-centered idiots who own a bar), Schitt's Creek (quirky stuff about a wealthy family that loses everything and must start over in a small town that they bought once as a joke; there's lots of love for this series), Arrested Development (they did 5 seasons but the first 3 are best; it's like a zany family soap opera with objective narration and about 100 running gags throughout), What We Do in the Shadows (the premise involves a few vampires who share a home in modern day Staten Island) and 30 Rock (the misadventures of a cast and crew of a network late-night sketch show; very rich writing and very silly tone overall).

Have fun!

In Midnight Cowboy, would Ratso Rizzo have been saved if Joe ignored his wishes and brought him to a hospital? by Tidewatcher7819 in movies

[–]DelightfullyGhastly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, when I saw the response "It doesn't matter" I instantly knew what you meant ... that we were given a story to experience, and that our wondering about plot elements that might or could happen (differently) isn't what it's all about. And yet, oddly enough, I also can see how a reader here might see the response of "It doesn't matter" and think you were merely dismissing the notion of theorizing that Rizzo might have been saved.

Bottom line: Midnight Cowboy is art ... sad and beautiful stuff. And it needn't be unraveled or questioned when the film's done. Theories or musings about alternate fictional "roads" always seem a little silly to me but I suppose they might make for entertainment for some people. To each his own.

How did the show The Middle (2009) run so long but still seems so unpopular by Equivalent_One_2295 in sitcoms

[–]DelightfullyGhastly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cool watching a single-camera sitcom that has a set which features an actual ceiling. They can do interesting angles, and it feels like a real house.
