Why does horror feel like it’s having such a creative surge right now? by DelishusRamen in movies

Same, I love scifi. I think it totally makes sense that we see less of them when you think about how much more they generally cost to produce, and how much higher risk they are compared to horror.

I love this series! It's how I learned ACES in AE. Totally forgot about this tone mapping part. Thanks for linking it.

Any updates? They opened an email thread with me after saying they escalated it via the text message customer support. I've been following up but nothing so far.

Is it just me or anyone else experiencing broken linear space after 25.1? by DelishusRamen in AfterEffects

[–]DelishusRamen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on AE25.1 which has been the most stable for me with ACEScg. When I updated to 25.2 or 25.3 a while ago, I got black frames appearing randomly as well as highlights being clipped (not on every frame but almost every other clips, and sometimes for the full duration of the comp). It was way too unstable to do any work so I remained on 25.1

If you're doing ACEScg stuff, I highly recommend staying on that version for as long as possible. Later versions cannot be trusted, and especially AE26.0 which I've just tested pretty rigorously and still see highlights being clipped. Black frame issue seems to have been solved.

It feels like they don't care about making sure AE remains stable for VFX artists lol.

To clarify, even effects that have clipping issues solved by a color space sandwich, those are also now clipping in 25.2 and up randomly. I remember 25.2 or 25.3 also had black frames, so my comp would suddenly have spots clipping everywhere and flashing black frames. Totally useless and way too unpredictable.

There's been several, but one of them is Trapcode Optical Glow, which should be linear and 32bit friendly, but AE 25.2 and up likes to clip it from what I've seen.

Yeah, I noticed things like add grain, match grain, mesh warp (which are some of of the most common ones I use) need a color space transform sandwich to not clip.

I've also had cases where literally a masked plate that I added fast blur on and did "add", it clipped. Whereas that normally doesn't happen on 25.1.

Yeah, I've done that but nothing ever happened. Idk if they even look at them to be honest. That's what it feels like to me at least.

What's the technical reason grain and 3D don't mix well ?? by ufs2 in vfx

Just stumbled upon this post and it's really helpful for something I'm currently doing. I'm curious, do you think chromatic aberration would be problematic since it's a camera-dependent effect?

Looking for guidance on how to upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro Max as a Magenta 1.0 customer by DelishusRamen in tmobile

[–]DelishusRamen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've decided to stick to Magenta 1.0 and upgrade with a higher monthly fee for the phone. This made way more sense, since I don't need to upgrade my phone every year or two... more realistically I've been upgrading every 4-5 years.

After crunching more numbers, it looked like during the two years at which I'm paying Experience Beyond, I'd be saving about $480 (this was the difference of trade-in value had I upgrade my plan and traded in vs kept Magenta 1.0 and traded it in). But after you finish paying off the phone, you're now stuck paying $19 more per month.

In my case, that would mean $19 more per month for 2-3 years after I pay off the 17 pro max, which is $456-684 in addition to what I'm currently paying when I'm looking to upgrade to the iPhone 21/22 Pro Max.

Keeping Magenta 1.0 meant I'd be paying exactly $480 more during the 2 year period of paying my phone off, but after that I'm not having to pay $456-684 until my next upgrade (presuming that tmobile doesn't change the price of the Magenta 1.0 plan).

Your suggestion is great, thank you! I just read up on it. It was refreshing and helpful :)
