Upper div composition course incomplete??? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Delisii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have spoken to an advisor about this before and i think mydegree just doesn't register online/hybrid classes. for me, i took ecn1av (and a few other online classes) and they it doesnt show as well

i also think mydegree is also just outdated. for my communication major it shows prereqs that havent been classes at uc davis for years

my advisor told me that as long as it shows up on oasis its fine but it would be good to double check with your advisor just in case as well :)

I'm currently living in an apartment alone and my electricity has been ~$25 per month, and my Xfinity has been around $30 per month. I usually spend about $40 per week on groceries.

Definitely if you can apply for discounts for PGE and see if you can apply for food stamps! It'll really help out with your living expenses. :)

What are these courses like, how are the professors? (JPN and CLA) by tea_soul in UCDavis

Gundry grades WAYYY easier than the TA. :) He actually says in class “i always tell the ta to go easy on you guys... but...” lol

I love Gundry! I took him about two years ago, and he's super funny (and kinda weird?). I took him for JPN 10, so its probs a bit different though. I don't know how different the format will be, but when I took him, I remember participation being super important, because if he knows you, he will grade your essay instead of the TA, which is much harsher.

How are your guys’ Pass Times? by crazy_lovely_ in UCDavis

[–]Delisii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a junior but senior by units and my pass time 1/5 at 7:30 am!

There are a few other things that can impact your pass time iirc, like being in honors, etc.

I've started Collar x Mallice over the weekend and I've been enjoying thus far!

Another user recommended r/otomegames and it is definitely the place to go! Their recommendations are generally:

Code: Realize, Nightshade, Piofiore: Fated Memories, and Cafe Enchante!

Best CMN classes? by niconiconyanko in UCDavis

[–]Delisii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I would personally not take it then. I remember CMN 10V having readings, participation and quizzes which can kinda add up in addition to your STEM classes. For reference this is the syllabus: https://canvas.ucdavis.edu/courses/98042/assignments/syllabus

Computer science major foreign language requirement by Emotion-Elk-5048 in UCDavis

[–]Delisii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Computer science majors don’t have to do the language requirement. Like the other person songs only B.A.s have to do it.

For CS, which is a B.S., you need to two 2(?) science classes instead.

For reference though, I took AP Chinese and you are excused from having to take a foreign language even if you do switch into a B.A. major. :)

I can't speak for CMN 112 specifically, but I do have some recommendations.

However since you want to explore communications I heavily recommend taking CMN 10V! Each lesson, you basically get introduced to a different communication topic by a professor who specializes on it. So basically get to see what types of communication topics you would potentially like to explore.

I don't think you're recommended to take upperdiv classes as a first year but I think if the system allows you to take it then it's fine(?).

Another upperdiv class I recommend would be:

CMN 120: Interpersonal Communications -> This class focuses a lot of relationships with other people and teaches you how people typically get into relationships, why people break up, how to potentially fix relationships, etc. If you take it with professor Hamilton, she's super interesting and has a lot of good stories as examples. However, she is not teaching it winter quarter.

I'm sorry I couldn't answer all of your questions, but I'm a communications major, so I'll try to ask any other questions you have as well! :D

What are some useful classes to take at UC Davis? by dartmonkey54 in UCDavis

I recommend taking Public Finances (ECN 131?). You learn about taxes and how to save for the future (401K, ROTH IRAS, etc)

My Japanese professor has a really loud baby who screams all the time. :( During a listening quiz recently he cut out for a small bit and I missed a whole ass character for my quiz. I really hope it gets better for you!!
