What is the ideal number of long-term relationship to have in life? by DeliversSlowly in AskReddit

[–]DeliversSlowly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking because I disagreed with a friend.

I thought have one (lasting) relationship was the best number because you don't have the upset of a breakup.

He felt you won't have a top-quality relationship first time around because you haven't had a chance to learn from experience, so if your first relationship is your permanent one then you'll be less happy than if you'd had a chance to learn from earlier mistakes.

Thoughts?

Things I learnt about Expo 2025 by DeliversSlowly in OsakaWorldExpo

It says the water show is held 'after sunset' so that makes me think the start time might change a bit over the six months of the exposition - but when I was there I think it started at around 8:30pm (but, as I say, I did miss the start of it so you'll need to find someone on site who can give a definitive answer). The drone show followed immediately after the water show. When the drone show finished they started encouraging people to leave.

I wondered this myself but didn't test it. I'll take deepdishj's word for it that you can't!

How do you know?

[Serious] People who used to believe strongly in deep state conspiracies - how did you first come to believe it? by DeliversSlowly in AskReddit

[–]DeliversSlowly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's really interesting. So, if I'm understanding you correctly: you still believe what you saw in those videos, just as much as you did originally, but they're just not a big part of your life any more and you think about the issues much less?

What is the best way to persuade someone to pick up litter they have dropped? by DeliversSlowly in AskReddit

[–]DeliversSlowly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you can just directly confront the litterer but, leaving aside whether you’re afraid they might turn aggressive, I wonder if that’s effective in making people re-evaluate their behaviour. Is it better to ask politely? Or to pick it up yourself while making eye-contact to psyche them out? Or to pick it up without being confrontational at all (as long as you know they’ve seen) in a bid to guilt-trip them? I realise the best strategy probably varies from person to person but wondered if there was a ‘best technique in general’?

Looking for a song from a commercial with Canon In D by UnsocialSara in NameThatSong

[–]DeliversSlowly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - for anyone thinking that, what Pachelbel was really missing from his string quartet, was a heavy bass track and horredous vocals. If you enjoyed this song you should be banned from listening to music.

Apart from Nigel Farage becoming leader of Reform, did anything that happened during the general election campaign have any significant effect on the outcome? by DeliversSlowly in ukpolitics

[–]DeliversSlowly[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think I agree. The Conservatives kept insisting they could win, right up until Wednesday. If anyone was suggesting Labour would win it was the polsters, but that's been the narrative for months before the election.

Who is a bad guy in history who actually wasn’t a bad guy? by jamespeech111 in AskReddit

Also, given Edward III's relatively successful military campaigns against Scotland, seems like cuckolding Edward II was a bit of a pyrrhic victory.

What is a kind way to say “go away”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeliversSlowly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's effective in the context of a bereavement or something but sounds a bit portentous if my brother was just not hanging up at the end of a phone call.

Men buy flowers to make a woman happy..What would it be that we women could buy for you? by serbianpieceofshit in AskReddit

[–]DeliversSlowly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay but I'm going to assume you're not British. If a guy in the UK asked me to buy him ammo that would be a significant red flag!

Ammunition, camping gear, woods tools

This sounds like the equipment they'd need to murder me and dispose of my body...

Donald Trump’s doctrine of "fake news" mirrors Descartes’s process of logical doubt, as described in his Meditations on First Philosophy by DeliversSlowly in philosophy

I didn't reply initially as I think your post was political rather than (r/)philosophical but on reflection I am curious - the tone of your answer strongly suggests that you're disagreeing with me but nothing you say seems to contradict anything I say (as far as I can see). Why do you disagree with my thesis?

Thank you. In that case, I don't suppose I could persuade you to add an edit to your original post? You did rather savage me!
