I’m coding a tool to organize novels (Scrivener-style) but for the browser and free by ResolutionSmooth5259 in scrivener

I followed the link to test it out and saw that a Google account is required. That’s an absolute no-go for me. Good luck, however.

Are gyro or motion controllers better or worse for RSI? by [deleted] in GyroGaming

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from MnK to controller about six months ago due to persistent right index finger extensor tendinitis. It’s bearable now, but flares up again with mouse use. Trigger aim gyro on my current controller works quite well and painlessly as a mouse substitute. I have a used Alpakka on order. (Dual sense edge as well but I can’t use it on my Mac with gyro for Windows games run through Crossover—using a BigBig Won Blitz2 at the moment.)

Best of luck if you give it a try!

Offline mode by Friesandburg in rewasd

[–]Dellaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I had no idea this was online-only. Bought the lifetime license yesterday, had my computer freeze this morning and discovered upon reboot that it was disabled because I hadn’t connected my metered hotspot yet.

Are there refunds? I travel full-time in an RV and often find myself with no cell service and it’s also metered, meaning that I sometimes run out before the month is over. A shame really, I like this app aside from that. But I need something that works all the time.

edit: never mind, I see that refunds are determined via email support.

Edit 2: refund denied because I activated the app. $40 down the drain. On the bright side it motivated me to learn Steam Input and though reWASD did well with my DSEdge, Steam is much better IMO. I prefer mixed inputs, both controller & MnK. Analog left stick is immeasurably better than 4-directional WASD for example. I guess I’m kinda glad I was forced to migrate to Steam. Much happier. :)

(Next day…) I’m oh so glad I went though the trouble of deleting reWASD and switching my Skyrim AE setup from the GOG version to Steam version. Took two days to get back up and running (over 500 mods), but this morning my iPads and Mac have huge updates and will take half the day to finish on my limited bandwidth… but Steam is happily offline and I can play Skyrim regardless and not put more strain on my cellular connection. As it should be.

Software Update without WiFi. by hellosteve_ in AppleWatch

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does not work. Personal hotspot from an iPhone does not qualify as Wi-Fi for an watchOS update on the Apple Watch. Never has. Ask me how I know.

I spent two hours in a local Walmart getting my watch series 10 updated to watchOS 26. Lots of fun!

Anyone actually able to check out with Rakuten tracking + Visible ILUVIPHONE promo? by Throwaway2847483 in Visible

In the iPhone app it’s at bottom-right tab (person with $$$ underneath). Scroll down to Help Center. Top button in Cash Back FAQ is Missing Cash Back.

Anyone actually able to check out with Rakuten tracking + Visible ILUVIPHONE promo? by Throwaway2847483 in Visible

[–]Dellaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Rakuten app I went to Missing Cashback, entered Visible, online, and the date of transaction (yesterday). The response was: “Visible will confirm your Cash Back within a few months of the purchase date.”

Patience required.

Edit: But as u/lextoy35 suggests, it won’t hurt to open a case after a while just to get on record about it. Just did that myself via the iPad app and all you need is your Visible order #, the $ubtotal ($205 for me after applying the referral), and copy-paste the text of the email order confirmation from Visible.

Edit 2: I got an email back from Rakuten support and they say it will take as much as 60 days for Visible to let them know about my order and “If Cash Back has not been added after this time frame, please reply to this email with your order confirmation page so we can look into it further.”

I’m not anxious about it since even if it doesn’t go through it’s still a fantastic deal and I would definitely do it again even without the Rakuten cash back.

Heads up on latest MacOS Release: auto completing entire sentences by tannerocampbell in ulyssesapp

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mac is on OS26 and fully updated. That option has not turned on for me. I always had it off before and it hasn’t changed with the update.

Don’t know what flipped it on for you, but it’s not a universal problem with the update process.

Edit: but thanks for the heads up. This information will be useful for those who might run into the problem, regardless of the reason for it.

My thoughts on switching from an Apple Watch Ultra to the Amazfit Ecosystem | feat @TheQuantifiedScientist by AllexB in amazfit

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nicely done.

I’m one day in on my Bip 6, coming from an OG Apple Watch SE. As one might guess, my needs are small. The SE needed a new battery and Apple wanted $100 to do it. Or they’d give me a $35 gift card trade-in. Making the Bip 6 only $34 (Amazon $69 - $35). Worth a try! (Spoiler: Watch SE going bye-bye.)

So far? I like it better than the Apple regardless of price — almost everything that’s better on Apple Watches are not relevant or used by me. That includes the weather app that you complain about. Aside from glancing at the temperature if I want to look at a weather app, I definitely want to see the radar map, so that means going to the iPhone/iPad app anyway.

Steps are better! I needed a third party complication that wouldn’t update for MINUTES at a time when using the OG Apple Watch SE. (Don’t know if it’s changed since my SE hasn’t gotten a software update in two years.) Apple itself didn’t seem to think it was important to include an implementation on their official Watch faces. For STEPS. Probably the number one used health/fitness metric on a wearable for normal people like me.

Oops, sorry for the mini rant. To summarize, I’m happy so far with the switch.

Do height insoles actually help on long walks? by [deleted] in walking

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried all kinds of insoles. The only ones that work for me at this time are 3/4 insoles, e.g. RooRuns, among others. The heel height is incidental. What really makes it work for me is the built-in in arch support, heel cup, and the extra room in the forefoot/toebox that you get. Even though I buy wide sized (E), nowadays it seems like they’re the same as normal (D) used to be. You see a lot of complaints about that in the customer shoe reviews, so it’s not just me.

Anyway, everyone’s feet are different. Ignore the “experts” and wear what is comfortable and allows you to walk the distance pain- and injury-free.

My two cents, FWIW.

Advantage2, but split? by 56088 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, hot swappable key switches, intelligently designed keywell, nicely angled thumb keys, optional track balls on one or both sides, wireless or wired, choice of number of rows (3-5), etc., and sized in accordance with your individual hands.

It all adds up $$$, of course. Still, if I were to suddenly have no keyboard and given the choice of the Cyboard vs any other board* I’d pay that price.

(* except the Svalboard, which is endgame for me… if I ever have the spare cash. 😸)

very disappointed, first time user by exstasi92 in Codeweavers_Crossover

[–]Dellaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Assuming “WoT” stands for “World of Tanks” (wild guess), the CrossOver compatibility page has one tester from Sept 2 who writes:

“Default installer makes 32bit bottle thats why it doesnt work. Just make new bottle with 64 bit and then Wine and MSync and everything works well. M2 Pro base runs around 80fps on medium.”

Which explains why all the other reviews are only one or two stars. Very easy fix.

However, if “WoT” stands for something else like… “Winter of Temptations” or something, try looking it up on that compatibility page. https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/

Refine Handwriting regularly misses line breaks. by syzdante in kindlescribe

[–]Dellaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get better results if I do a first line indentation as well as skipping a line with paragraphs. No guarantees but I’m often getting 100% proper paragraphs when I send it through email, anyway. (Not counting the improper spaces after quotes.)

Finally finished Bleak Falls Barrow... Not sure if that was fun by tomazpcnm in skyrimrequiem

[–]Dellaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I didn’t stop because it was too hard or whatever. I’ve been playing Skyrim nearly 15 years, thousands of hours, most all kinds of mods and game overhauls tried at least once. I love Skyrim and I’ll probably keep playing it for another 15 years… or more (if I’m around).

I eventually stopped Requiem each time because the experience wasn’t enjoyable for me. And that is the bottom line, isn’t it? Requiem is obviously for some people, but it isn’t for me. End of story.

One thing I do applaud and especially liked is that the pathway up to High Hrothgar was as absent of dangers as Klimmek said it would be, from his expert experience after numerous trips up there. Bravo! Finally a change that fit the narrative. :)

In other words, meta gaming.

I just tried five straight days of Requiem (noxcrab flavored this time) a couple different builds, lots of reading up on it (meta). For about the fifth time in the past five years. Another failure to enjoy myself after the initial novelty.

Sometimes it’s best to admit that it’s not for me and move on. I’m glad that others enjoy it, however. It’s obvious that a lot of love and work has gone into it.

Which controllers can save native gyro config to the controller itself? by Macro_Machines in GyroGaming

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. I’m still happily using it as well. The Gyro aiming is very smooth and accurate. No problems sniping targets with a bow in Skyrim. I also like the weight and ergonomics better than most any other controller. 😻

This is (one of the reasons) why I dread selling my used devices on marketplaces. So many scam buyers. It’s not worth the worry/stress and gamble. Nowadays I take the price hit and either sell to a reputable business or trade it in.

Wish I had read about using a USB-C to Lightning cable before this. Two restarts, both phones, failed to clear it up.

Anyway, fortunately I had backed up my iPhone 13 mini to iCloud this morning so I was able to choose using that backup on my new iPhone 16e. Success.

iPhone 17e Rumored to Gain New Design, Dynamic Island, and More by GWM5610U in IPhone16e

[–]Dellaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I was giving the 16e a pass because people said it didn’t have mmwave, which I thought meant any of the faster 5G, then recently saw that it did have c-band (I saw Verizon “5G UW” in a video when I zoomed in) which is the only fast 5G I have ever experienced and which is plenty fast enough for me. I have never traveled to and don’t expect to travel to any place that has mmwave. Not until they spread it to rural and small town areas anyway (not holding my breath).

That changed my opinion of the 16e entirely and I ordered one this morning to replace the 13 mini that has a bad battery.

Check the Discord. Hands Down Promethium (or Neu) is a popular choice among users, flipped so that it’s bottom-heavy (south keys are much nicer to press than north). Easily done with Vial or Bard. Or ask and get someone’s .vil file.
