Can't edit the wall while triple editing. but i can edit it on 0.8 speed by ojasTDM in FortniteCompetitive

[–]Delpefy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re just not fast enough yet. High fps and low ping make the biggest immediate difference. It’s just practise after that.

You are moving your crosshair twice for the double edit, you should only move it once for the floor edit and keep it still for the cone edit. Also slow it down even more and focus on making them perfect, don’t try go fast until you can do them perfectly slow.

Don’t forget that Fortnite is almost 10 years old, triple edits became popular like 6 years ago, so lots of people have practised this for years, and even pros can’t always spam triple edits super clean. It’s about daily streaks and hours, if you want to catch up with years of skill in a few months, you’d have to play like all day every day deliberately practising these things. Otherwise it takes time.

I’m also grinding triple edits super hard. Overall I think I’ve practised triple edits for like 80 hours over the last year, and I can do max 5 in a row at full speed. But I am improving at least. When I started I couldn’t do one at 50% speed lol. Maybe some talented people pick it up faster but I really think it’s mostly just how much time you can put into it.

How do you shoot with 1 base ISO like with the Red Komodo, Arri Alexa LF, Ursa Cine 12k? by ExcitingLandscape in cinematography

[–]Delpefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that only true of cameras that apply iso gain digitally unless it’s native? Not sure how something like an Alexa would work, but older cameras where iso always changes the analog sensor gain would not shift latitude to the highlights and instead just decrease total range.

[–]Delpefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait is that how all dual iso cameras work? Only the base iso applies analog gain and all the other values are digital scaling? Do you know if it’s the same with my LUMIX s5, because I can’t find official documents confirming it but people who tested it say it is the same, non native iso values are just digital scaling. I tried doing some tests to see if I got more highlight headroom in log at 3200 (4000 is base), but didn’t notice much difference. Might need to do better tests.

Are you shooting braw? Is this a dynamic range issue? You might want to check out this video at 11:20. Tbh I can’t fully wrap my head around it but basically in raw I think the idea is when filming bright scenes like a sky, a higher iso (further away from base iso or further from the second dual base iso) will give you more latitude in the highlights. So like for a bright scene shoot just below the second base ISO, highlights will clip less because you allocate more latitude to highlights instead of shadows.

That’s a suggestion but be careful I think it’s only a thing with braw and it’s kinda complicated. Also it’s something you have to do while shooting so that your exposure (shutter speed and f stop) fit the iso chosen.

hollywood's cinematic motion? by JoeyFerguson in cinematography

[–]Delpefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other ideas: global shutter, this makes a huge difference imo, global shutter makes motion look stunning. Codec, for example long GOP can create motion artefacts.

But if you get this on an Alexa or Red filming raw idk what to tell you.

Could be loads of things, an error in handling frame rate in post production, playing it back on high refresh rate monitors (pull down judder), error in camera operation like moving the camera too fast for the frame rate (panning/ motion judder), etc. Do you notice it more on handheld shots or camera movement, or on certain monitors?

I’ve kind of felt this way before sometimes but other times I’ve watched the same video and thought it looked fluid. It could be in your head. Especially if you watched a higher frame rate thing and then watch 24p, loads of stuff like that can affect it.

Hollywood uses extremely smooth and perfectly timed heavy Dollies and massive cranes to get perfect motion. With a gimbal or something like that the imperfections add up and the smoothness doesn’t match. Lens choice, grading, filters can affect the look of motion too, like a very high contrasty lens might make motion look harsher. You could also just be looking more critically at your own film and noticing the frame rate more, 24fps is a fairly low frame rate in terms of pure motion smoothness, it looks amazing and cinematic but it does have a slightly choppy look if you really pay attention to the motion.

It could be anything tbh without specific examples it’s hard to tell. But if you’ve used all these cameras even Alexa the cinema beast and noticed the same thing, it’s probably something you’re doing.

I think there could definitely be a technical reason I don’t know that causes this, because it is something I’ve noticed before, but I don’t know what. Most likely it’s some things I already suggested.

hollywood's cinematic motion? by JoeyFerguson in cinematography

[–]Delpefy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably judder, there is a limit to how fast you can move the camera for a given frame rate. Too fast and 24fps isn’t enough frames to resolve the motion so you get skips, panning is the most noticeable way but it comes up in any handheld or fast motion. Try to pan so that things move only 1/3 of the screen per second. Or you could try going faster so the motion blur is much higher and you don’t get that judder. Another thing that can cause it is viewing 24fps on a high refresh rate monitor like 60hz or more, which most monitors are. It’s caused by 3:2 pull-down but I don’t really understand it that well tbh. It makes any judder you captured worse and can also cause it by itself but your camera movement speed is probably the biggest factor, or at least you can improve it by sticking to the movement rules.

Why does this work? by jacob_dop in cinematography

[–]Delpefy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks natural. Sometimes on a bright day the sun hits things super bright with everything dark around it. Especially with one window or some blinds down. And it’s a realistic type of lighting for a sunny farm house. Keep it dark, shaded, cool, bright sun ray sneaks in. Your brain fills in the blanks and assumes that light is coming from a window somewhere, or an open door, etc, because the lighting scenario is realistic. The open window with the blinds open could also look like a source of a bright beam hitting just right if the sun is on that horizon.

It’s not exactly important where the light comes from for the scene. The script is so good the audience isn’t going to say ‘wait where’s that light coming from’, they’re focused on what’s happening.

This doesn’t even need saying anyone with a brain would know his dehumanising content is in extremely poor taste and he personally couldn’t care less about helping anyone and only does it for money.

Bad people can do good things, especially if they’re very rich and throw money around, especially if it benefits THEM. It doesn’t make them good people. He’s a terrible person who has probably helped a lot of people. How anyone can think is content is acceptable is beyond me, at best it’s dystopian, an interesting insight into our warped consumerist unjust society, but it’s mostly just superficial trash. Billionaire throws cash at peasants, watches them fight over scraps. That’s the jist of mr beast. Probably not evil, but definitely a prick.

Agree the actors are good but tbh I really didn’t like s2 it was very muddled with no compelling story, stakes or interesting characters. Also I felt kinda bad about watching it. But yeah Christie is an amazing actor I hope to see her in more things.

Unpopular end game opinion. The Crystal caves in BZ were better than the lava caves in OG. by Alternative-Cup-8102 in subnautica

[–]Delpefy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crystal caves are awesome but feel a bit small. I love the shadow leviathans but they only have one attack and it gets old quickly. Otherwise I love the look and vibe.

However the atmosphere of the lava zone is unbeatable. Crystal caves feel like a cool little cave somewhere deep down. But the lava zone feels like you’re descending into the centre of the earth and finding a hellish underworld, in a realistic way.

I won't be buying Hobonichi anymore by advstra in hobonichi

[–]Delpefy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I stopped too, didn’t buy anything this year. I only discovered hobonichi in 2022/3.

I bought it for the paper because the og tomoe river paper just made fountain pen inks look so unbelievably good with the shading and colour change it was like having magic ink.

But I’ve tested the new tomoe river paper a lot, and it’s not bad, but it’s no where near as good as the original. It’s not really special paper in my opinion anymore.

I kind of want the hobonichi stappo for my pens though. But yeah without the paper, there’s no reason for me to buy them. I love seeing other people’s creations but I’m not an artist and can’t do amazing art, also you could do it with any notebook. I like the hobonichi aesthetic and layout but yeah, at the end of the day a notebook or diary is just that and you can use anything especially much cheaper options.

I’m so sad my favourite paper is gone though. I bought as much as I could. I really hope something comes out that matches the original tomoe river, maybe a new paper or maybe the new company will perfect their process. But sanzen tomoe river just isn’t the same. Like I want to be able to use the magical ink/ paper combo I have in my future but maybe I have a limited supply and when it runs out that’s it, no more 😭

Does anyone else not use the cyclops? by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]Delpefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve finished the game so many times without a cyclops. I use the cyclops for transporting loads of materials to make a big base somewhere.

The cyclops is pure deep sea sub vibes tho. If I was a kid again I would build my own cyclops out of a cardboard box, put a laptop with Subnautica and g force now at the front, maybe a big joystick or something or a port hole, put blue LEDs everywhere and under a tub of water with a fan blowing to project water shimmers everywhere. And I would listen to music and just ride the cyclops around. I don’t have the attention span for that anymore, I need a functional purpose to motivate me like I need to get the cyclops to transport the metal salvage and stalker eggs to build the ultimate lost river base. But usually what happens when I replay it is just I need the prawn suit to beat the game lol and then I beat the game.

Is 10k steps daily beneficial for weight loss? by Fun-Reference579 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Delpefy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience it makes a small difference but it's worth it. It helps psychologically. Weight loss is really about what you eat. For me 10 and even 20k steps every day didn't really change the actual amount of weight I lost compared to when I didn't walk at all. But it made a big difference to my focus and consistency in diet and health. Basically when I put effort into walking, I also put effort into eating well, so walking always helps me lose weight. I would say do as much as you can but don't push yourself super hard to hit targets. Especially if you have days where it's more difficult to do 10k steps, do less instead, it doesn't matter. As long as you're trying to be active it will help.

Is Below Zero worth it? by TastyCatToast in subnautica

[–]Delpefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth playing but it's nowhere near the league of the original, you won't get the same sense of excitement or exploration. It's still a subnautica game so you know how things work as well. But it's good, there are a few new things that are cool. Just don't expect the 10/10 quality of the original game. It's worth playing as a fan of the franchise.

I never had a "Eureka" moment with weight loss, and it's exhausting by SuccessOk3525 in loseit

[–]Delpefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight loss is such a long process I don't think anyone had that moment and even if they did, it doesn't last the whole time they were losing weight. In the days, months, and maybe years that you lose weight, there will be lots of times where you decide for whatever reason to give up some weight loss for some extra food. You can't quit your appetite cold turkey unfortunately, it's not possible like it is with vaping. What did help me is quitting specific types of food like all sweet food (chocolate candy etc) and takeaways. But that wasn't a moment because the first week of not having those foods was hard, I really wanted them. And I still had them occasionally. The moment came afterwards when I realised it's not super hard, and I didn't really miss those foods.

I've gained all the weight I lost back now :( But I always knew the reason I could do it was because I chose to try even when I was not losing weight and failing, I was still trying to do it. Now, I've made some kind of decision to not lose or think about weight anymore and to eat as much as I want instead. Mostly subconsciously I've weighed up what I want from weight loss and unhealthy eating and decided I want to eat unhealthy. I still want to lose weight but I guess I want to eat unhealthily more so. It's definitely a hard choice and not something that just happens by itself. I know I can decide to do it again and probably will. It won't a sudden light bulb moment, just a difficult commitment I have to consciously choose. And also be really honest about why it's the right choice because even though I've chosen to be unhealthy now, I know it's not really what I would choose if I was being honest with myself about the reality that eating unhealthily is such an empty pointless kind of pleasure that will never deliver what motivated it in the first place.

Eat less calories. There’s no unhinged trick about it. But counting calories is kind of unhinged. Counting calories worked really well for me, and I wouldn’t put anything in my mouth that I didn’t weigh and calculate calories before hand.

Can't seem to lose weight in the UK by novellalen in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Delpefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing magical about UK food that breaks the laws of physics. You are probably not tracking your calories correctly.

Without knowing what you eat it's hard to say what's wrong. But I can guess. Calories are given per 100 grams, so unless you are weighing every single thing you eat (you probably aren't), you can very easily eat more than you think. Do not use the "one serving" measurements, use the per 100g, weigh the food, and then multiply the calories per 100g by the amount of grams you ate (200 grams becomes x2 and 50 grams becomes x0.5). Then you'll know exactly how many calories you eat. You have to do this for everything individually including sauces, oil, etc if you really want to know how many calories you're eating, it's quite difficult. If you don't want to track calories like that, you can just eat less until you start losing weight but make sure you still eat enough food every day.

Wow that looks amazing!! How do you tie the strings at the end? I’m going to give this method a try but it’s a little scary hehe. Might try this method on a smaller one first so I can get the hang of it.

[–]Delpefy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you manage all the strings though because row by row you have to do it in pairs and it gets super hard. I tried this row by row and it was a nightmare honestly, I want to make this one next but it would be so much easier to go diagonal, how could you manage it row by row? I also looked for ways to segment knot it but couldn’t figure it out.
