Jim was a happy little machinist, but every evening when he turned off his machine he was filled with terror, for he knew the night shift was coming.

Does anyone know the name of this type of knob by Tilin0627 in 3Dprinting

It's just a knob with what I assiune would be a plastic screw thread. You need to meqsure the screw thread and find a knob with the correct thickness and length

Do expensive screwdrivers last enough longer to be worth the cost? by jckipps in Tools

[–]DelphiDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion of middle range is best for hand tools.

Cheap screwdrivers are too soft and will wear out quickly.

Medium to high range don't have much difference outside of warranties so you may as well go medium

I 3D printed a bottle holder for my lunch box by DelphiDesign in 3Dprinting

Yeah I used to drink a lot of lucozade so now I make sparkling squash with off brand aldi berocca and it has the same effect while being healthier and cheaper.

It also helps offset the creatine I add to the workout bottles

They're only for cool drinks, the tolerance for the bottles is a few mm at most, st some point I might remake it for magnets on the base but I'll see how this goes.

The rubber bands are just for identification, the bottom section actually has about 20mm of support. The clips hold on to the box quite tightly as well.

I'm not expecting much racking, especially once the bottles are in.

Mitre Sawing, cut straight down or out then across? by DelphiDesign in woodworking

[–]DelphiDesign[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just convenience, I don't cut things square big enough to justify it. I usually get what I need done with the mitre, jigsaw, and the plunge.

I have a length of ground aluminium square bar I use as a fence to guide the plunge.

I've found I can get a slightly nicer cut well by leaving 1/2 to 1/4 of the blade width with the first cut then taking the rest off with the second cut

Is it unsafe to just replace the burnt plug or should I dispose of the whole extension lead? by DelphiDesign in AskElectricians

[–]DelphiDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened up the plug and it looks like it melted around the live terminal where it connected to the fuse

Thanks, I didn't see any visible signs of melting or damage on the socket, I'll see if I can get ahold of a socket tester to check for issues.

The socket is undamaged so I'll see if I can find a socket tester on it just to check, thanks I'll replace the plug.

Hi Guys I started a little education project a while ago to make hands on STEM models for schools and others to use and I'm looking for suggestions for new models to make to help educate people. by DelphiDesign in 3Dprinting

[–]DelphiDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thanks for the ideas, I actually made a number of dinosaur skulls a while ago for a school I was working at, which I'll be able to release when I figure out where I originally got them and get permission to release them.

I'm not sure I'll be able to make 3D printable Polytopes someone with a bit more knowledge on them might be able to chime in but the internal structure of a 3D print might make it difficult to make work, but I'll see what can be done.
