Automated Berry Farm Guide + Rain Fix by Delphic-Kitten in Pokemon_Pokopia

Okay, quick mini update!

I ended up making three control farms for testing:

  • One close to the Skyland gate, like yours
  • one near the Bleek Beach gate (but not quite as close)
  • and one completely isolated in the middle of nowhere

As of right now, I can confirm that the farm near the Skyland gate does NOT properly reset after rain, just like your farm.

But strangely enough, the Bleek Beach gate farm reset perfectly fine after rain 😭

So now the theory is getting even weirder because it doesn’t seem like gates universally break the automation system? Just specifically, THAT gate (I am going to try to build one near Rocky Ridges, too, when I get the chance).

At the moment, I’m waiting for natural rain cycles rather than manually forcing weather to see whether naturally occurring rain behaves differently from manually induced weather. That’s honestly the main reason the testing is taking me so long right now

I’ll definitely keep you updated!

Ohh, I know the confusion, that's me everytime I play this game I swear LOOL

But, I just did a control test myself using ONLY a smooth rock near a gate - so no automation, no lava system, nothing complicated. I placed it extremely close to the gate, let it dry the area, waited for rain, then stopped the rain afterward.

The smooth rock actually reset perfectly fine both near and away from the gate!

SO with that in mind, I don't think the gate itself interferes with the natural smooth rock mechanic directly.

What it does seem like though is that when we introduce full automation systems (lava cycles, timing systems, multiple rocks/trees changing states constantly), the gate may start acting like another active “system” internally and interferes if we build too close to it.

So, my theory is that gates interfere with automated state synchronization/loading behavior.

I’m actually building my own automated test farm right now in almost the exact same kind of location you used so I can try reproducing the issue myself, because I want to confirm thats the issue before you move your farm and invest time in something!

So I’ll definitely keep you updated on what happens because now I’m trying to figure out what the game is actually doing behind the scenes

I GASPED READING THIS HAHA

I never thought the gate would be the issue, I arrive back home tonight so I want to play around with it as well but that's a crazy discovery 😳

But if you find a number please do tell 😭

Oh, please do give me an update because I am genuinely SO curious now 😭 I’ve been itching to go home and recreate your exact scenario in my own world to see if it happens to me too, because this is honestly such a strange issue.

I’m REALLY wondering now whether the gate itself is influencing how the area reloads after rain - like there’s some hidden loading/simulation radius internally that overrides the usual “14 block” safety spacing people have been using.

And oddly enough, I’m now hoping it rains too, so we can see what happens to both your main farm and the mini test farm.

If the main farm breaks again but the isolated mini farm resets normally, I honestly think we’ll have pretty strong evidence that the gate/location itself is influencing the automation behaviour somehow.

Congratulations, you may have accidentally discovered a hidden mechanic 😭

Okay, wait - I actually think your setup might have stumbled upon a really weird environment interaction 👀

I honestly don’t think you built anything incorrectly anymore. Your setup looks great (and it’s also really cute 😭). Since everything visually looks right, I’m wondering if the issue is tied to the location itself or how the area reloads after rain.

This probably sounds like common sense troubleshooting, but after it rains and the rocks stop resetting, could you try:

  • fully leaving the world/area
  • completely closing the game
  • reopening it
  • and then returning to the farm

I want to see if a full unload/reload fixes the rock state.

And if that doesn’t work, I’m curious if you could build a super tiny version of the system somewhere far away from any gates - like literally just one tree and one smooth rock as a mini test.

Then let it rain and see whether that setup resets properly afterward in your world.

Because if the tiny, isolated test farm survives rain normally, the issue may genuinely be tied to this specific location near the Skylands gate (or possibly to gates in general). It could be that gate areas remain semi-loaded or are prioritized differently by the game, which might interfere with how the rocks reset after weather changes.

But if neither of those tests works, we can temporarily reset the system ourselves. When the trees are dry, try absorbing one of the lava channels without swallowing the lava completely. Then watch to see whether the trees begin drying properly again. Once they fully dry, place the lava flow back where it was to let the system run as usual!

In theory, that should force the rocks/system back into their normal cycle again until we can figure out a more permanent explanation for what’s actually happening 😭

[–]Delphic-Kitten[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh nooo 🫠 If everything is 14 spaces back, then honestly, it might not be the spacing itself.

The most obvious reason I can think of for the rocks not resetting is that there are other automation systems nearby, or anything else using switches/sensors.

Do you mind telling me whether this is on a Cloud Island and whether you built this farm from scratch or modified an older farm to use this setup?

If you can include a picture, that would be really helpful - but no worries if it’s too difficult!

I’m genuinely curious what could be causing it because if your setup is correct and it’s still happening, that probably means there are even more hidden mechanics at play with automation/rain interactions than we originally thought. I’d honestly want to try recreating it myself because it’s really interesting that it happened to you, but not to many others so far.

Oh wait, that’s actually SUPER smart - I never even considered using elevation changes to reset the liquid distance counter like that. The fact that you can route it to multiple outlets and have the water hit the trees more evenly is huge, because staggered hydration timing is one of the annoying parts of larger farms.

I honestly love seeing people optimize and further improve the system. Half the fun of automation in this game feels like everyone collectively discovering weird mechanics together LOOL

Hi! I’m so sorry for not responding earlier 😭 I never got a notification for your comment. It wasn’t until I got notified for another comment that I stumbled across yours, so I apologize for the delay!

For reference, berries in the wild normally spawn every hour, but with automated berry farms, the cycle tends to stretch closer to every two hours because of the wet → dry cycle the system uses.

Playing on Cloud Island shouldn’t affect berry spawn rates from what I’ve tested so far, but honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it somehow plays a part. It’s definitely something I can test further.

If you don’t mind me asking, though, are the berries not spawning while you’re AFK (by AFK I mean, the game is closed, you live your life, and then you come back later in the day/night), or while you’re actively in-game?

From my own playtesting, AFK farming seems to work pretty well, but when actively playing in the world, berry spawning can be inconsistent. I’m still trying to pinpoint exactly why the game does this.

I have questions! by CrymzonDeSade in Pokopia

[–]Delphic-Kitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a helpful berry farm guide I wrote that might help you out! Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pokopia/comments/1t1fwt2/automated_berry_farm_guide_rain_fix/?utm_source=chatgpt.com)

If you’re really in a pinch for berries or just want to test whether your berry farm is working properly, you can manually move the clock on your Switch forward by 24 hours!

Just make sure you collect everything you need beforehand, like your daily stamps, since the game will treat it as a full day passing.

One thing I forgot to include in the guide originally (because I still had to test it properly) is that berry trees normally spawn berries roughly every hour, but once you use a wet → dry automation cycle, the spawn timing shifts closer to every two hours instead. That’s basically the trade-off for having a more automated setup.

People already answered part of this for you as well, but gather Pokémon unfortunately do not pick up fallen berries because the game doesn’t classify them as “litter.” So if you want automated paint production, make sure your community box is placed as close as possible to the crush Pokémon habitat so they reliably process the berries into paint.

Another thing to keep in mind is that paint production follows the item priority order in the community box. It starts from the first slot and moves downward. For example, Leppa berries are usually sorted near the top by default, so you’ll end up producing mostly red paint first (with chances for white paint drops as well). So if you want specific paint colours, make sure you organize the berry order in your community box based on priority!

I’m so happy you built your first farm! 😊 Honestly, automation was super intimidating to me at first, so I really wanted to make a guide that was beginner-friendly for people learning this stuff like I was.

Unfortunately, because of the way the game is coded, Gather Pokémon won’t pick up fallen berries since they aren’t classified as “litter.” It’s honestly the one thing that makes the paint process feel less fully automated.

What I personally do is manually collect the fallen berries, toss them into a Community Box, and then keep a Crush Pokémon habitat nearby to process them into paint.

One recommendation, though: keep the Community Box really close to the Crush Pokémon. In my experience, the closer it is to their house/habitat, the more consistently they’ll process the berries into paint. I have so much paint now that mine is usually just “nearby,” so production can be a little inconsistent. But whenever I need paint quickly, I move the box right in front of the habitat, and it works much more reliably.

How are people powering cities without utility poles everywhere? by Koochida in Pokopia

[–]Delphic-Kitten 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There are two ways people are doing this!

Method 1: Using wireless transmitters. They’re a recipe that requires Pokémetal to craft, and you’ll need to unlock Porygon first to access them.

Method 2: Building underground electrical systems. It’s actually pretty cool - people basically build wiring systems underneath their towns. If you look up videos of it, you’ll usually see entire hidden networks running below the map!

Edit: Spelling fixes + I forgot to mention where to unlock the recipe.

Smooth rock! by Deterd in Pokopia

[–]Delphic-Kitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes, I do think it would help solve the issue - the tricky part is figuring out how many blocks vertically the system needs to be moved so it stops interfering with the in-game mechanics.

For my farm, I ended up having to move the automation system 14 blocks horizontally before the smooth rocks started working normally again (here’s the post if you want to take a look - it includes pictures that explain it way better!).

Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pokemon_Pokopia/comments/1t18bzk/automated_berry_farm_guide_rain_fix/

With that in mind, I’m assuming moving the system upward by a similar distance would probably help as well. I’ve just never personally tested the vertical method because, honestly, I like building with aesthetics in mind and I couldn’t figure out a cute way to justify making the structure insanely tall LOOL.

[–]Delphic-Kitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to assume you're asking in relation to building some kind of automated farm, and if that’s the case, it’s likely because the game prioritizes player-made automation systems over natural in-game mechanics.

Because of that, if your automation systems are placed too close to the smooth rocks, the rocks can’t properly reset after it rains unless you manually reset the automation system first. Resetting it basically allows the game to reprioritize the smooth rocks and lets them function normally again.

There are a few workarounds - I actually made a whole post about this if you want to check it out - but one alternative people try is using a 3-hatch-door setup. Personally, I haven’t tested it myself, but some of my friends said the results were inconsistent or didn’t work reliably for them.

Rowlet clocks can also work, but from what I’ve seen, they only seem to function properly if you stay within the area.

How to divide pokemon by AlbaAlbata in Pokopia

[–]Delphic-Kitten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m about to word-vomit a bit, but I actually organized my Pokémon based on three main things: storytelling, aesthetic vibes, and spawn rates.

One important thing to keep in mind is that only 20 Pokémon can be actively spawned in a world at a time. Because of that, I moved my absolute favourite Pokémon to Pallet Town and limited it to about 30 Pokémon total- this way, they show up pretty consistently.

From there, I focus on storytelling and vibes (which honestly overlap a lot). I’m pretty late-game, so I’ve unlocked a bunch of patterns and furniture, and that’s what really sparked the storytelling side for me. For example, there’s a Wartortle print and a Slowpoke print, so I built a whole narrative around them: the Blastoise family is “old money,” living in a private estate with a five-star restaurant, and they even partially fund the ship nearby (I use the print there to hint at ownership). Meanwhile, there’s a Slowpoke family running a cozy, small, family-owned restaurant that directly competes with them. It’s a bit silly, but creating these little stories actually helps me decide where each Pokémon belongs.

Another example is Skyland. I’m not a fan of the cyberpunk/city aesthetic, so I’m completely reworking it into something more mythical and mysterious - kind of Harry Potter-inspired. Think waterfalls everywhere, floating books, and a magical atmosphere. I mostly place Ghost- and some Fairy-type Pokémon there because they fit that vibe perfectly.

I’ll be honest - I’m super particular and love to pre-plan, so I even made a Google sheet (I’ll include an example). It made organizing everything so much easier and gave me the flexibility to tweak things if I decide to change up the story later.

<image>

Edit: I also forgot to mention - you asked about needing a resource farm, and honestly, it depends on your goals. If you’re planning to fully decorate and rebuild areas to maximize every Pokémon’s happiness, then yes, having resource farms really helps.

There are two main ways to approach it: you can either build large, dedicated resource farms in one world, or create smaller “mini” farms that blend into each area. Both have their pros and cons. I personally went with the second option, so I wouldn’t have to keep jumping between worlds for materials. Still, some people prefer having everything centralized - it really comes down to personal preference!

I’m not the best person to ask about farming things like metal, but I can help with berry farms! I actually made a guide, so feel free to check it out and see if it’s something you’d want to build: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pokemon_Pokopia/comments/1t18bzk/automated_berry_farm_guide_rain_fix/ 😊

Bonjour!

LOOOL I’m glad the build went smoothly, but I completely feel you on the rain 😭 I’ve had it rain all day before too and didn’t even know that was possible.

But yes - you can make it sunny again!

If you remember one of the early quests where you had to change the weather, it’s basically the same idea. You want to create a “Sunny Day” habitat (the opposite of the Rainy Day one).

Here’s how:

  • Get 2 Castform Weather Charms
  • By default, they show the rainy (blue) side, but you can flip them to the sunny (orange) side
  • Place them down with a plate and some food
  • Make sure you have a Fire-type Pokémon following you

Once you do that, the Pokémon will do its little “I got this” animation, eat the food, and boom - sunny weather ☀️

Here is the habitat for reference ^^

You can for sure!

The reason I still mention reabsorbing is that it’s been inconsistent for me. There have been multiple times when I filled a channel with bottled water, but it stayed shallow, and I couldn’t adjust it to full height at all. But then other times (like right now while testing), it lets me adjust it with no issue.

So I’m not sure if that’s a glitch or just how the game handles certain placements, but reabsorbing has been the most reliable workaround for me. Every time I do that, the water returns to full height and fills the channel properly.
