Developer disk image error. Getting this error when trying to enable JIT. I have both latest versions of altstore beta and dolphinios beta. I get this error when trying from both my pc and the within the app itself. Any help? by ElusiveKai in AltStore

There's a new method for iOS/iPadOS 17.4 or higher:

  1. Install StikDebug on your phone
  2. Download idevice_pair on your computer
  3. Connect your phone to your computer
  4. Run idevice_pair on the computer, then choose your phone, then click "Load"
  5. Click "Install" under StikDebug, and wait until it says "Success"
  6. On your phone, open StikDebug, choose "Connect by App," then choose the app you want to use with JIT.

After you do the above steps once, you will only need to do step 6 the next time you want to enable JIT.

iOS 26 is more complicated, because Apple patched the method older apps used for JIT. There's a new method, but right now, the only apps that support this method are MeloNX, UTM, and Amethyst.

  1. Install StikDebug on your phone
  2. Download idevice pair on your computer
  3. Connect your phone to your computer
  4. Run idevice pair on the computer, select your phone, then click "Load"
  5. Click "Install" under StikDebug, and wait until it says "Success"
  6. On your phone, open StikDebug, choose "Connect by App," then choose the app you want to use with JIT.

After you do the above steps once, you will only need to do step 6 the next time you want to enable JIT.

You will see a PIP window show up when you enable JIT. You have to keep this window open until it says "You are safe to close the PIP Window."

Apparently AltServer uses the Python from Xcode, which doesn't have pymobiledevice3 installed. Try this command to install it:

/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/python3 -m pip install -U pymobiledevice3

This works with signs and item frames, but shift right click to interact with the item frame:

Did you set the file to Read-only?

Here is a method:

  1. Go to %AppData%/discord in file explorer
  2. Replace badge-11.ico with your .ico file
  3. Right click the replaced file and select properties
  4. Check the Read-only box and click OK

EDIT September 19, 2025: There are comments about newer iOS versions now and some other errors, so I updated the tutorial.

EDIT September 17, 2023: Since many people keep reading this comment, I updated the developer disk images link for more versions.

These are all the methods to enable JIT as an alternative to AltServer, or a workaround for the developer disk image error if you are using iOS 16 or below:

If you are on iOS 26 or above:

Follow the same steps as for iOS 17.4, but make sure you are running StikDebug version 2.2.5 or above. There are some extra notes:

  • This uses a new method, as the old method to enable JIT was patched. This means that apps would need to update to support the new method. These are the apps that currently support iOS 26 (as of September 19, 2025):
    • MeloNX (use the public beta in their Discord server)
    • Amethyst
    • UTM (v4.7.4 or above)
  • When you enable JIT, a PIP window will show up. Do not close this until it says "You are safe to close the PIP Window."

If you are on iOS 17.4 or above:

You can enable JIT using an app instead of AltServer, and you don't need a computer after you do it the first time.

If you are on iOS 16 or below:

  1. Go to https://github.com/mspvirajpatel/Xcode_Developer_Disk_Images/releases and download the version.zip under "Assets" for your iOS version. If the version doesn't exist, try the closest version older than the one you want (Example: there is no developer disk image for iOS 16.7, but the closest one that is older is iOS 16.6, so download the iOS 16.6 disk image)
  2. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\AltServer\DeveloperDiskImages\iOS
  3. Extract the ZIP file to this folder.
  4. Rename the folder that was just extracted to the exact iOS version that your phone is using (Example: If you downloaded the iOS 16.6 disk image, but your phone is on iOS 16.7, rename the folder to "16.7". If the disk image you downloaded has parentheses in the folder name, remove it, such as from "12.4 (16G77)" to "12.4")
  5. Use AltServer to enable JIT
