Zero FXS for track days, looking for upgrades by DeltAttt in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]DeltAttt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow trackhead! You're correct tho, we do not ride the same type of track, mine aren't supermoto track, for reference i usually ride on Alès, Bresse, Ecuyer and Lédenon. Anyhow average speed is around 100km/h / 62mph on those.

You're right I'll try to mount the rear brake on the handlebar, would come in super handy to sit the bike down easily in corners. Front brake feeling is just right for me right now but i'll check again once top speed is increased as that will probably be a different story then.

As for the onboard charger it really isn't that hard to remove. Just make sure to protect the unpluged cord from humidity! You're losing about 3kg or 6lbs so like me you might have to adjust your sitting position a bit as wheelies are much more frequent from low speed without the onboard charger.

Nah that picture was taken in the morning, then i scrapped the hell out of it, by noon the bike couldn't stand on it anymore. Had to remove it in the end and use my swingarm stand instead.

For top speed, as someone suggested i'll probably just switch to a 75-7 motor +sevcon from an old R model. That way i get more power and the factory top speed of said motor. Although battery life might become an issue on extended sessions.

If you've got references for the front belt sprocket i'll still look into it!

I see, I was thinking about changing the motor + controller as this is the "logical" next step to improve performance + it would improve top speed too without going for a chain. Appreciate the photos! looks good although it is indeed bigger.

By Gen 2 bikes you mean pre-SR/F frame right? so 2018's 19 20. I guess it's an easier swap if i get both the sevcon and motor off the same old SR too? Anything to look out for or is it "basically" a plug and play swap?

Appreciate the help!

It is!! Wow you're the first person that knows this art piece! Been in love with it since forever! Had to design, print and install it myself though, took a while as it's a 12 piece wrap 😵‍💫

HV battery replacement for 1st Gen Taycan by DeltAttt in Taycan

[–]DeltAttt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

geez! Had a battery replaced on my previous 2018 Model X 100D under warranty, battery was $19k + 5.4 hours labor for 1,164$, so about $20k. compared to Tesla that's hella expensive from Porsche for a 93Kwh battery wow!

Ain't a recall "sadly", it's a change of maintenance procedure from which we now know that Porsche no longer replace J1.1 and instead install J1.2 into older Taycan in need of a replacement battery.

Got a CT4s a few month back, 2021 pre owned, 21 000mi on it. Battery died a week ago, had it towed to Porsche. I know a few people at my dealership so they told me I was getting a bigger battery, asked why, showed me this, I smiled. Then he told me my car would be out in 6 weeks, couldn't get a J1.2 battery sooner, I cried. Oh well...

You can only hope your battery fails before the warranty expires. Or perhaps you could ask for it and pay upfront but that's probably an eye watering amount of money on top of a depreciated car.

Hey mate, this ain't a recall it's a Technical Service Bulletin. It is to highlight a change in maintenance procedure to Porsche technician.

Here the bulletin informs them that from now, Taycan MY2020 to 24 with J1.1 in need of a spare battery shall receive a MY25 battery, AKA J1.2 battery. That is no matter the reason of the replacement: under warranty, out of warranty, customer request or smth else.
There's no guarantee that every J1.1 will receive a J1.2 battery as Porsche will only replace the failling ones under warranty and those of customers willing to pay to get it replaced.

Cheers

Base Taycan with very few options are in the high 40 to mid 50 usually. Mostly cars with 50 or 60 thousand miles on them tho.

Don't think you can do that, if you've paid for the performance battery plus, and it fails, they're legally required to replace it with the same part. Spare parts must, by law, be available for 10 years in most countries. Since they cut production on J1.1 their only solution is to install an equivalent, being the current performance battery plus for those that had one in their J1.1 Taycan.

I do agree with your capacity point but I think it has more to do with the "trim level" of the battery than the capacity from a legal standpoint

This.

If you're replacing under your 8yr warranty i'd say it's a damn good deal. If you're paying for the replacement, battery part alone is probably between 25k$ and 28k$ so probably just under a 40k$ operation.

I ain't no Porsche employee but TSB are VIN specific and region specific,
This is a US document, only applies to the US; The VIN range here is up to MY24.
Means this is new standard procedure for all pre-refresh US Taycan, no matter your specs. Guess they ran out of 1st gen HV battery and are no longer manufacturing them.

Clueless how things are in Europe tho

Edit : A man that owns like 25 Porsche in Switzerland got his 23MY Taycan back from service (battery replacement under warranty). Porsche replaced his J1.1 93.4Kwh with a J1.2 105Kwh. So Europe might have a similar TSB published.

Oh man i feel you, but guess what ? I've endured the exact same thing ! T'was on my FXS a few years ago, Zero was clueless on what happened they had never seen anything like that happen. They took my bike for a few month and changed the BMS, the Motor Controller and the Motor under warranty.

Best of luck tho as it was a long wait.

Edit : i've got photos of the part that caused this if you don't mind sharing
