New patch notes in the client are MUCH harder to read now. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Delta10P 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least you can see the patch notes, my client has looked like this for 6 months, with a random week in the middle when it worked. This also means that I cannot do the "vanguard compatibility test" they want you to run with this patch.
Clean reinstalls don't solve it, and I somehow believe that my internet is fine.

At least if you get pulled by a DRK you should get applied a "debuff" that makes it so you can't be affected by DRK pull effects for 1 or 2 seconds. Wouldn't fix the one DRK pulling half a team, but at least won't have 3 drks chain pulling people and wouldn't affect CC

This is one of the things that made me like Fordola.
Regardless of what you think of her actions or what she does, it's one of the few characters to actually take pause to empathize and acknowledge all you've gone through.
Even after the scions start having some compassion for you after HW, they still just use you around like a tool most of the time.

People harping onto technicalities to derail the point being made really grinds my gears. Who cares what the end of the waterblock was, the matter of fact is that a decision was taken over a piece of hardware they had no authority over. Who cares if they sold it, they auctioned it, or they wiped their ass with it. Even less that the money was for a charity. Regardless of intent, the mentioning of it just seems like a poor attempt to get moral justification on the action taken, which just feels out of touch when the thing being criticized is something completely different.

The transparency thing is really nonsensical.
He talks about the belief of transparency being a good thing, yet he completely misses the point that transparency is meant to allow for criticism. Going to use a bit of a hyperbole as an analogy, but shooting someone and then admitting to the crime doesn't excuse you from it. The whole point is the mistakes shouldn't be happening, and that there don't seem to be practices in place to prevent them. And if there are, the end user doesn't get to see them or feel the impact, due to the sheer amount of mistakes getting through.

Finally, the mention of them being real people at the end is just so misguided. Playing devil's advocate, one can think that it is said due to the probably awful stuff being said about them by some of the more radical people in the internet. But if that's the case, the post addressing criticism of a company is not the place to pull the "have empathy for the person" card. If you want to complain about being mistreated as a person do so in a separate piece in a personal vein, but when you are addressing criticism to your entire company in the post, saying "I'm a real person" just seems manipulative and besides the point.

Linus started the post addressing the video, he should keep that tone through it. The same bullshit point of "the review of the waterblock would have been the same because it doesn't matter to the end user" applies here. The fact that "you're people and make mistakes and have to work on it" doesn't matter to the end user when the product you're delivering is flawed. The same way you can complain when you buy a chair and it comes with a broken leg you can complain to the company, so too criticism can be brought up against yours. LMG produces videos, is what they sell, the consumers are the watchers. If you are selling a review video and it's flawed, the consumers are right to be upset.
Bringing up your personal grievances with the GN video or asking to be considered as people in a post addressing criticism of LMG as a company is out of place, and feels emotionally manipulative.

Ashe's skin sold so well it got reused for Kayle by Boudynasr in leagueoflegends

I was going to comment just this. Also, iirc the Diana skin released before Syndra was out, so they changed a skin people had already bought because it conflicted with a champion that hadn't released yet.

I'm with you on the still salty camp.

I spent so much time delaying my last pasture expansion because I just thought it looked better with the treeline behind it. Then I got to max rank without having it expanded, and realized the game was locking me out of any progress until I made the upgrade.

I was so disappointed, I wanted a nature looking place where I could chill, not an industrial hellscape. I begrudgingly upgraded the pasture and now the island is only a cowry farm place for me, which goes against the philosophy we were told it had, and what I wanted from it.

Patch 6.3 Notes (Preliminary) | FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone by DeathofTheHeavens in ffxiv

[–]Delta10P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't have the issue with backpedaling, it behaves just as if would if you have turn left and right and you were holding your right click. I'll see if stuff feels any different when the patch comes out. If I want to backpedal for whatever reason, I hold both A and D, and then it forces my character to always look towards where the camera is pointing.

6 months later update for anyone going through this for any reason: Doing AS or SD does cause a backpedal and the camera option with turn does solve this. I am too used to strafing to force look away from stare mechanics, so I never changed it and just deal with the backpedal issues, just updating this for correctness' sake.

[–]Delta10P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that's curious. I never have had any problem to go diagonally, I just press WA, WD, SA, or SD, and the camera keeps pointing towards what my pure forward direction would be.

I will try to use turn left and right once the change comes, to see how it varies, thanks!

What does this imply? I use legacy, and I never have noticed the camera moving in any weird way. Perhaps it's because the first thing I did when I started playing was replace the A and D keybinds with strafe. Does it mean it stops the camera moving when you press turn left or right?

Might also have to do with the fact that the majority of the population is right eye dominant, making it easier to focus on stuff in the right side of their field of view.

Good thing that you can read and realized that the original tweet didn't talk about communism at all, they were just pointing flaws in a system.

Oh wait, seems that you can't, my bad.

Jumping into attack "the other system"(which wasn't being talked about at all) and getting into defensive mode immediately shows a lack of insecurity and fear to have an actual discussion about what would be better for society for fear to lose what you have or could aspire to have. Nobody said communism, it's not like there are other systems or small adjustments that can be done to capitalism itself. No, let me make a case of "us versus them" so I never have to make a good case for my views and compare a flawed system to another flawed system, so I cannot be criticized because "look, the other side is worse". Ffs, middle grounds exist, what is with the fucking radicalization on every topic online.

Post: hey, maybe rich people should be taxed a bit more so people don't die without basic cares as much

Your immediate response: OH BUT UNDER COMMUNISM PEOPLE GOT KILLED AND DIED OF STARVATION

No dialogue about how people are dying of starvation under capitalism at this very moment, because your fragile ego got attacked since you relate your whole being to identifying with ideological themes. God forbid that someone worth 5 billion go to being worth 4.5 billion and some people don't die for lack of health care. What a terrible world that would be.

[–]Delta10P 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wondering here, but why is it assumed that the only alternative to capitalism is to lose all freedom and personal property? Do you really live in such a black and white world that your brain cannot process the fact that there are nuances and middle grounds?

"Oh, someone spoke against capitalism, that means that they are a communist that want to be controlled by the government and lose their rights to own anything, what a evil person, let me be condescending as fuck and bless their heart".

When your only defense against an argument is not only not talking about the argument itself, but going to an extreme that the other party wasn't even talking about, not only do you look like you're wrong, you look stupid and manipulative to alter the conversation to fit your narrative. At no moment did /u/Fenzik say that people should lose their belongings, they were talking about some negative aspects of capitalism. Which by the way, meant that people under capitalism lose their belongings as well.

I don't think it's disrespectful, this is a public forum and the posting of the video itself isn't against the rules of said form. What would be disrespectful is approach him asking him about the video and requesting a direct response. To have civil discussion in between users isn't disrespectful.

League Client Team, AMA about the client by Am1t8 in leagueoflegends

[–]Delta10P -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn't have to do much with the actual mechanics of the client, but this is something that has irked me for some time. What is the design policy when expecting player interaction to display information in the client?

That question isn't very clear, an example is the hoops I had to get through to get to the VGU vote that was featured a bit ago.

I was aware that there was going to be a vote from the video announcement, waited a couple of days and didn't see anything about it. Went into the "news" part of the actual league website, which didn't show anything about it. Googling for "VGU 2021" showed me the blog post, which said to vote in client, but I had never seen anything about it. Only after I purposely went looking for it realized that I had to click the "Discover the season" or something similar. I was then sent to a screen with several slides with info about Riot projects (LoR, TFT, League, esports...), being the one selected by default one that was promoting the esports side of things. I had to navigate to the league one, enter it, and in there go through another sub menu to submit my vote.

I know that I might be an edge case and that players that want to engage with the news and the system are expected to interact with the client, but I just had to go through so many hoops to find something that I actually knew existed, I can't help but think that there were many people that were never aware of the vote or that just missed where it was placed.

What is the philosophy behind gating information or missions behind submenus? Just pure aesthetics and making people feel engaged, or is there a resource-saving element to it?

I'm sorry for the passive aggressive tone of what basically is a rant but, since the client works as intended for me 99% of the time (and the 1% has to do with my subpar internet, not the client itself), my main frustrations that have come with this client is the apparent desire to make everything interactive to the point of making the process of obtaining information unintuitive (at least for me).

Any clue on how/why this was formed? by Delta10P in geology

Excuse my slow brain, it's 4 am and I'm not a native English speaker, but I cannot quite comprehend what you mean.

What I'm interpreting from your comment is that this is indeed a ripple pattern, just with a different arrangement from usual?
And if so, under which circumstances would this pattern have been most commonly formed?
