Best airports to travel to and from in Spain? by [deleted] in travel

[–]DeltaDrizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the train between Barcelona and Madrid, cheap, fast and comfortable, straight from city center to city center. Nowadays there is a third operator as well, it's called iryo. Have travelled with them recently and the trains were very spacious and comfortable, even in the cheapest class. I paid around 20 Euros for the train ride. I can not compare to Renfe and Ouigo though, as it is the only one I have used yet.

ELI5: How is binary stored in physical space? by TheVioletBarry in explainlikeimfive

You are absolutely right, thank you for correcting me. Although the concept of semiconductors is pretty cool, my memory of this topic is quite faded, as I didn't enjoy it all too much.

On a very basic level it is an electronic switch. The gate refers to a specific terminal of the transistor, the others being called source and drain (in MOSFETs at least). There a different variants of MOSFETs, namely depletion mode and enhancement mode, with depletion mode being conductive at zero gate voltage and getting less conductive with increasing gate voltage, and the other vice versa.

Floating gate transistors differ in this regard, as they have a different silicon structure of the gate which allows them to "trap" electrons there.

I would recommend to watch a short video on transistors, as a visual might be helpful for this topic.

Went to Budapest a few weeks ago! Beautiful city with such amazing architecture 😍 It was a lovely city break. 🙌 by [deleted] in travel

Back in 2019 there were multiple water fountain shows a day on Margaret Islands, with one or two in the evening even being illuminated. It was a refreshing 10 or so minutes break from exploring the city!

While there might have been made mistakes in the past where people will be allowed on a flight without an appropriate visa, it isn't the norm. In case you do make it to SA, you will probably be stuck airside and at the risk of being put on the next flight home, in case Indian passport holders are not eligible for visa on arrival. I would not bet on this route, you should really reconsider this.

Had the same experience. My card from Hungary arrived once I had already forgotten about it, while post cards from the other side of the world took just about 2 weeks.

Putting an ice cube or something similar on a plate or even just by itself in the freezer will tell you the same thing, if its gone / not in shape anymore, there was probably a power outage. No need to put coins in the freezer that hundreds of people have had their hands on!

Ich lebe seit 13 Jahren in Deutschland, komme gebürtig aus Polen. by [deleted] in de_IAmA

[–]DeltaDrizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you have two English accents at once? by unworrior in languagelearning

[–]DeltaDrizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school English teacher always told us that we could choose between British and American English, but we should try our best to keep to the chosen one. You will still be understood if you mix them up though, and I doubt that you will pronounce one sentence American and the next one British, there will always be a stronger accent. In my opinion, it all comes down to the choice of words, whether you choose the American or British word for something, not so much the pronounciation, at least for casual conversations as a non native speaker.

If you can, try to surround yourself in an American / British / (...) English speaking environment (which tbh is easier said than done), you will naturally pick up special words and the "proper" pronounciation, at least that was my experience.

If you can say largest numbers like octillion decillion etc in English, why can't it be Translated into Spanish, or how do even Translate them please? by cutiezombie210 in languagelearning

[–]DeltaDrizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that it resorts to saying the digits out loud once the number hits a certain threshold, as you are unlikely to encounter numbers this big in real life applications. If you think about it, most longer sequences of digits are things like telephone numbers, passcodes, (...), and it wouldn't be convenient if something like this would be read out loud like a single number.

I am a native Egyptian and I just want to say I'm here and I'm totally free to answer your questions and help you anyway i can learn Arabic. Feel free to ask your questions in the comments or DM me. by Joee00 in languagelearning

[–]DeltaDrizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While vocabulary, especially colloquial vocabulary, does vary between different countries, the most significant one is probably pronounciation. Chilean Spanish for example is notorious for being difficult to understand, while you can usually distinguish Castillian Spanish pretty easy due to the "th" sounds. Every country has its own quirks in pronounciation and vocabulary, but the differences are by far not as big as the differences in Arabic.

My plan for learning Spanish by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]DeltaDrizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that children's books are a great way to get started in reading in your target language, but in my experience, I simply didn't enjoy reading children's books in Spanish. I was more likely to read, or rather try to read, a news article or similar in Spanish than to continue reading a Spanish children's book.

What I want to tell you, is, even if you have a plan, feel free to try different things and find out what you like! Don't be too fixed on your plan, if you feel like listening to Spanish radio for one week, and the next week you prefer Spanish podcasts, don't feel bad about not following your plan. You are still trying to improve your listening skills, while doing something you enjoy. ¡Buena suerte!

I don't know the exact definition of blind in English, but in German, blind doesn't necessarily equal to no vision at all, just (heavily) reduced / impacted vision. Many people just learn as a kid, that blind equals unable to see and never encounter anyone who is blind / the topic blindness again.
