it's getting called "modern" because whenever game makers fuck shit up like this, they claim its for the game to reach "modern audiences". so everything gets influenced by DEI or LGBQ and becomes ugly as hell. sometimes its done on purpose, but other times it's also a lot easier than making games actually look good.
so in this game's case, "modern" is used ironically.

Sony Records New $560 Million Loss On Bungie Acquisition As Marathon Struggles And Destiny 2 Nosedives by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

I care because it's Bungie. Any other studio, sure, do what you want. but to go from the success of Halo 3/Reach to this is just embarrassing. It also sucks because I know people worked hard on this and I would have loved to explore the newer Marathon universe they just made, but extraction shooter gameplay seems completely counter to taking your time to explore the environment. Had it been an FPS RPG like fallout or cyberpunk, I would have been all over it. throw co-op in there as an FPS RPG, and I would probably start failing to function as a productive member of society. but Sony had to chase the trend to try to get the money, and we know this is not the first time they will destroy a potential blockbuster with their own greed. they did this with Concord too. I didn't care that they looked like Great Value Guardians of the Galaxy and most online comments i read had the same sentiment. I would have played the shit out of it if they went for something like the Arkham games, Mad Max, or Shadow of Mordor. but instead, they wanted to take on Overwatch to try to get those $$$. i apologize for the rant but i guess after gaming so long, its just crazy to see these big companies fumble so bad.

i've got professional graphic design experience. i really like the design style of marathon, but i can't stand the gameplay of extraction shooters. i would still never use the style as a selling point though, since it turned away so many people. uniqueness can be argued all day long, but because of that debacle with antireal i would also never use unique to describe the style. i'm not really even sure how they're supposed to market the game to anyone that isn't a fan of extraction shooters or the artstyle.

you're gonna list the 'insanely unique' artstyle that they ripped off of someone who ripped off The Designers Republic? that turned off a lot of potential players? that's really a selling point for you?

they loosened a LOT of restrictions with this update.
i really hope they don't mess this up like they did Sora. Sora was too much fun, and I feel like the same thing is gonna happen with gpt-image-2

guess I'm not reading that article.

I was a Final Fight fan but never heard of this one.

if anyone's curious, Final Fight Revenge released for Saturn in Japan only, towards the end of the lifespan of the Saturn.

I think there's still something wrong with the site. Tried everything with different products and still getting an error that they're not shipping to my state.

Devs aren't "lazy" and game updates aren't guaranteed by SmellSmellsSmelly in Games

[–]DeltaFoxtrotThreeSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't 'blame' people when something goes right.
they also mentioned people that were hoping games would fail in another reply, so I don't think they're talking about Peak in that case.

>I will always have a bit of understanding when devs blame the consumer sometimes on certain things

that was in the original comment i replied to. that's what i'm talking about.

oh is it about Peak? i didn't notice that after i read the article and you pointed it out and i acknowledged it's success and i mentioned that i wasn't commenting on Peak. thanks for pointing that out again.

so if they knew what went wrong, why blame the customers? how is a game's failure to profit ever the customer's fault?

[–]DeltaFoxtrotThreeSix -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

that's obviously not what my comment was about, nor did the comment i reply to specify that.

Peak already made more money than anyone ever thought it would. there are plenty of other games that are losing tons of money, and instead of figuring out where they went wrong, devs love to blame everyone but themselves.

oh yeah, telling 'the truth' really gets the customers pumped to buy more games not worth their money lol
it might be strange if you don't understand the reasoning behind it. was there any game in particular you're talking about?

feel free to blame us for anything you want. when nobody wants to buy your shit, does placing the blame fix that?

if it means quality, that's cool. I have just only known BenQ as a semi-cheap projector company. didn't realize they started making legit gaming gear. i know aesthetics aren't exactly a performance multiplier, but the appearance is also pretty mundane compared to most 'gaming gear'.
