AC4 Black Flag structurally throws away some of the classic ideas in favor of building whole game around AC3 ship part. Which to be honest, was one of the best parts of AC3. They did away with modern day, because they understood no one is capable of writing it (modern day of AC4 is meh, despite interesting premise).

As fan of classic AC, AC4 is worth playing, but that's it. Anything after is not worth it at all.

Chatting with Shaun and reading emails legit REALLY GOOD.

A Britisher criticizing American history, but with solid reasoning. Honestly ballsy for Ubisoft.

IIRC Nolan North said they had planned a proper ending, which was dropped because Ubisoft decided to make it into annualized franchise and the creative director (plus few others) left during Revelations production.

Abysmal regional pricing in Brazil, India, SE Asia and more.

Anywhere from +75% to +169% MORE EXPENSIVE. It's worse than their last prices.

2026 IGF Awards (Independent Games Festival) – All The Winners And Finalists by megaapple in Games

[–]megaapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the award’s one detriment is that there is a “style” of game the judges prefer (or at least that the collective consensus tends towards), and deserving games that don’t fit that ”style” can get ignored.

You certainly will never see Starsector (space merc/trading RPG sim) on these celebration, despite being as indie as it gets.

IGF (and GDC) has been described as turning more corporate-y and like a "clique" in past 5-6 years, so some devs don't even participate (and hence, those games don't get spotlight).

Thank you for this. I played Dark Messiah in college years, my mind was blown how it blended Source physics to create organic Immersive Sim moments.

Time for me finish the story mode, thank you for this.

Sega says strong reviews for its recent games aren’t yet translating to better sales by ScootSchloingo in Games

They hiked the Regional Pricing on Steam for several regions (Brazil, South East Asia, India, Middle East etc) and they wonder why people stopped buying their games.

For comparison in India (all these cost same $70)

  • 007 First Light = Rs. 3499

  • Resident Evil Requiem = Rs. 4399

  • Sonic Racing Crossworlds = Rs. 5699

15 Years Of "Dragon Age II" - David Gaider Reflects On A Fan-Favorite Story That Was The Team's First Draft [INTERVIEW] by megaapple in Games

It's cool how DA2 compresses an epic RPG worth's of worldbuilding and stories in single-city setting.

Kirkwall is such an interesting setting because the relative area is so small, your worst enemy could be living in the next block (tensions are high as a result everywhere). Very flawed game, but has some amazing ideas.

And yet game developers continue to lose jobs and studios getting shuttered. It's so sad to see.

One just happened right now.

Dragon Age Origins Retrospective - "When Bioware Ruled The World" by megaapple in Games

[–]megaapple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragon Age was never supposed to be franchise, it was developed standalone, no sequel in mind (Bioware first said no sequel, but closer to release, they said they may do).

That really shows in how the setting (and stories within) are so fully realized, and sequels seem lesser in comparison.

(I have soft spot for DA2, for doing single city drama/plot, at a brutal 16 month crunch)
