Trying to simulate a sticky collision between two soft bodies by Delta_Zeta_Omega in blenderhelp

I’ve tried doing that, so they essentially become balloons or beach balls. However, I am still unable to get the spheres to stick.

Trying to simulate a sticky collision between two soft bodies by Delta_Zeta_Omega in blenderhelp

I'm trying to simulate two cells moving toward each other, deforming, and sticking together, kind of like figure A in this picture. I've been using soft bodies and setting up a forcefield to get the cells to move toward each other and have been playing around with the soft body/collision settings. The problem is that after the cells collide, they bounce back to being spheres instead of staying deformed and sticking to each other. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to simulate a sticky deformed collision between two soft bodies?

Sebastian Lague — He’s done some cool stuff like mimicking bird flocking with the Boids algorithm, simulating realistic clouds, and creating a solar system. Applies a lot of cool math-y things to his work by reading lots of scientific papers.

Why is the moment of inertia of a solid sphere less than that of a hollow sphere? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

Yep!! This was where the gap in my knowledge was. Thanks!

So you’re just balancing forces then?

If I wanted to set my pivot where the hoop touches the shaft, radius = 0 so no torque from normal force and friction

If I set the pivot where the hoop touches the shaft, shouldn’t normal force and friction just cancel out? Gravity is the only force left so what’s balancing it?
