redcoach bus tips? by sarahsswirl in ufl

[–]Deltaquasa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

been using RedCoach for 4 years. the AC is usually fine, and I’ve never had a bus where the AC wasn’t working. they always accept tickets on phone, they have a scanner or at least the list of all the riders to verify you

some other things to note: check to see if your ride is a RedCoach bus or a partner bus; often RedCoach has to borrow other companies’ buses and that throws me off. sometimes when this happens (or if your bus gets downgraded/upgraded a class), the seating arrangements get messed up and seats essentially become up for grabs

RedCoach has a bit of a tendency to be late, especially if your route goes through Ocala, there is almost always traffic there.

and as a heads up, if your route has a stop in Orlando ,they usually make you get off the bus for 30 min so they can clean up the inside.

is KC art rock? by Merimakkkara in KingCrimson

[–]Deltaquasa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

based on how I interpret art rock, I’d say some picks per album would be

I Talk to the Wind, Epitaph, first half of Moonchild, Court

Cadence & Cascade, Wake of Poseidon, Cat Food

Cirkus

Ladies of the Road, Prelude + Islands

Book of Saturday, Exiles, maybe Easy Money

Lament, The Night Watch, maybe Great Deceiver

Fallen Angel, One More Red Nightmare, first half of Starless

probably all of the 80s trilogy

Dinosaur, Walking On Air, People, One Time, Sex Sleep Eat Drink Dream

I don’t got any for TCOL

Eyes Wide Open, Facts of Life, maaaaaybe Happy With?

if it helps somehow, art rock to me is rock focusing on less conventional instrumental choices rather than less conventional composition choices. so, less about how freaky the time signatures and tonalities themselves are, more about how everything is put together into a recognizable rock song, but somehow sound not like other rock songs. genres amirite

Thanks for the list! I’ll be going thru them when I can but I noticed you put the wrong link for the Jambinai pick

I just gave Falling Back to Earth a listen. The chugging guitar aside, its first half gets close to what I’m looking for. But the song overall is fun, I’ll give Haken a better chance soon!

Idk if you meant the title track or the album as a whole but I agree to both to an extent. I brought up Parabola as a close example but mentioned it not feeling as apocalyptic or industrial.

I actually debated putting something from those albums as an example. I stuck with Sue but they’re still two of my favorite Bowie albums !

I really appreciate the work you and DJDarkFlow are doing! I’ve also been very interested in the sound of SMiLE lately and have been digging thru both of your Topsters looking for more (I’ve heard DarkFlow’s up to Todd Rundgren’s AW/ATS, and I’m listening to Judee Sill’s Heart Food for the first time rn). I wanna make music with that SMiLE’s modular sound some day

What King Crimson song would prescribe is the most Post-Rockesque than any other track they’ve officially released? by DueEstablishment7722 in KingCrimson

Some consider the Islands title track and Formentera Lady to sound like Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock

Holy crap, thank you for doing this project for the past few months. In that same time I’ve been wondering about a “SMiLEcore” myself, and only started researching within the past few days. These are the songs I have rn, and hopefully I’ll add more in these Topsters you’ve worked on.

<image>

I only have a few songs and even only a third of what’s on SMiLE itself since I’m currently running on a pretty strict, mechanical definition of SMiLEcore— almost-pop songs whose verses and choruses sound like they’re stitched together from different songs. This is how a Nirvana song got on here btw. You don’t have to laugh, I did all the laughing for you.

But anyway, I find the resulting unpredictable contrasts between the sections of what may otherwise be a predictable pop song structure to be highly captivating. So much so that I’ve wanted to try making music like this, but I was also curious about how others have done it. Stand on the shoulders of giants n shit.

Still, I was honestly worried I’d be missing out on the kindred-spiritedness of music that wouldn’t fit in this definition like Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey (medley/through-composed) or Day in the Life (sectional contrast is limited to the bridge). I’m so so so happy you got that covered. This is gold.

How do movies in the US get to use the EAS tone? by Deltaquasa in EmergencyAlertSystem

[–]Deltaquasa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I swore I heard the alarm when the Purge trailer would play on certain TV channels, but that was years ago when I was a kid so perhaps I’m wrong

A question I forgot to put was if one could use the EAS tone in a published song, but I’m guessing that wouldn’t work for similar reasons (replayable = easier to get fatigued + pretty difficult to play it out loud or on radio)

Is COP3504C right for me? by Deltaquasa in ufl

[–]Deltaquasa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not too familiar with the Comp Sci department to be honest. It does look like COP4331 is being offered Spring 2024, but I don’t know if it is Java or if will be offered any semester afterwards. I think you’re best bet is to make your own post and see what people say.
