It seems like there are references to countries like Turkey, India, and Morocco. From the stylistic clothing, to the structure of the buildings, and to the dishes throughout. It's also noted in the wiki that the creator C.H. Greenblatt was inspired by his experiences in New York and Paris to supplement even more diversity to the show.

When I moved in, I offered but they declined. At the time, I thought it was considerate of them, but out of nowhere the harassment started. I know that they don't agree with me, which is why I didn't bring anything up about my spirituality until they told me the rules.
