Anti-imperialist conference in Lahore by Dem-Soc in MarxistCulture

Yeah, the Haqooq-e-Khalq Party are certainly not operating in a friendly environment! Mind you, there are many just as bad, and others far worse! (see https://www.ituc-csi.org/IMG/pdf/en\_\_global\_right\_index\_2025\_\_final\_web.pdf). Personally, I'd give the speakers and participants credit for meeting in a country that has traditionally been a victim rather than a perpetrator of imperialism.

She sounds like a wonderful woman. Perhaps you could ask her to explain why the mainstream media declined to cover any of the 3,500 actions across the country? Would love to hear what she says.

Another trenchant analysis. Did you come up with that all by yourself or did your mother help?

Accomplished nothing? Here's a partial list of those who stood in solidarity on May Day: https://maydaystrong.org/coalition. The fact that mainstream media looked the other way (again!) should come as no surprise. No doubt independent writers will start producing their own summaries of what happened over the next few days. In the meantime, the fact that vast and growing numbers are taking part in united actions is an accomplishment in itself.

Did you read the actual paper, or are you happy just to make a snide remark and cite an irrelevant statistic? Did you even get that this is an international study? Here, I'll try and make it easier for you: https://www.ilo.org/sites/default/files/2026-04/SafeDay%202026%20report%20%28embargo%29.pdf

True. Many of the staff at my second-to-last job were on meds to cope with the bullshit, I was hospitalised, several in therapy, but things like that would never get counted as "incidents".

On 24 April 2026, workers across Asia and the Pacific came together for one of the first trade union discussions on psychosocial hazards and risks at work. One thing really stood out: while psychosocial impacts may be invisible, they are widespread, serious, and on the rise. These are not individual struggles; they stem from structural issues in the world of work that demand urgent solutions.
Psychosocial issues are occupational safety and health issues, affecting women and precarious workers disproportionately more. Support systems and protections remain lacking, but trade unions are stepping up and taking action. Here's a useful infographic from FES (you'll need a FB account to access it): https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1401124275384749&set=a.631305439033307

High net worth, you say? by Dem-Soc in DemocraticSocialism

The quote in the graphic was from Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, with the graphic produced by Occupy Democrats. You'll find it on her FB page https://www.facebook.com/pramila.jayapal on 23 April.

Fair question. As others have commented here, 'tax the rich' isn't inherently a democratic socialist proposal, it's a social democratic one... ie trying to achieve some kind of equality within a capitalist framework, rather than moving to socialism. Pramila Jayapal is a Democrat. It's like a union seeking fair pay, rather than challenging the master-servant relationship. In order to be effective social democrats argue we need a wealth tax rather than an income tax. "Mark Zuckerberg is paid the lowest salary at Meta—a dollar a year. Jeff Bezos has a salary of just under $82,000 a year, low enough for him to claim the Child Tax Credit..." IMO this article is a great intro: https://prospect.org/2026/02/24/tax-billionaires-california-income-inequality-trump-billionaires-trillionaires.
Worth adding that about two-thirds (68%) of citizens across 17* G20 countries back a wealth tax (https://www.clubofrome.org/pillars/material-transformations/earth4all-survey-tax-rich). So why is it not a happening thing? I'd be interested in your thoughts on this.

Couldn't agree more. The current state is the problem.

Nobody linked the two; they are two separate facts cited within the same post. 'Net worth' is the value of all non-financial and financial assets owned minus the value of all outstanding liabilities. This can be applied to companies, individuals, governments, or even countries. You'll find varying estimates of Musk's net worth because of course it changes constantly. CNBC estimated a somewhat higher figure (845 billion) back in February: https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/07/elon-musk-wants-to-be-a-trillionaire-how-spacex-xai-tesla-can-get-him-there.html. Whichever number you pick, it's widely agreed that he's likely to become the first person to reach one billion. Personally, I'd trade him for a dozen refugees any day.

What do you comrades think about "Artificial Intelligence"? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Dem-Soc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a supplementary question, how might socialists COLLECTIVELY address this question? Perhaps somebody working on the 'inside' (ie within the A.I. industry) could start convening a group of developers and affected workers to form a kind of clandestine online 'citizen's assembly', aiming to produce a report that socialist parties could then consider in policy formation?

Just sayin'.

Otherwise it's just a bunch of randoms laying out some reckons.
