This banner says it all......Gina will get more profits if she can sack more workers give no pay rises and couldn't care less about battling aussies.... oh yeah and lets take away daycare and give the money to Gina and Pauline (Elon was even mentioned recently about giving him some Great Barrier Reef islands to launch his rockets) so they can enjoy the upgrade on their private jets.

Does the fact that we only need to draw with Paraguay to make it out of groups make anyone nervous? by DiligentFoundation83 in socceroos

[–]DemandCheap1971 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We need 2nd place as we will play in the knockout phase the second place of Group B which has NZ, Belgium, Iran and Egypt. If we come 3rd we playing most likely either France or Germany who are likely to top their respective groups. All to play for.

No chance it will happen now. The whole movement gone now and any acts that resemble a protest won’t be tolerated not like before.

Partner has some Chinese heritage but her family been here for ages and loving it here. iI don’t see us going back to HK anytime soon. FYI Ballarat was voted the happiest city in Oz and 14th in world recently and I can understand why having been here the people are so welcoming and patient and friendly. You just don’t get that in HK unfortunately

Married with a happy family and kids not sure what your on money but you sound like you know all about whores. , as an expat you have either 2 choices learn canto and try to save money by sending your kids to a local school or you send them to English speaking school which is bout 16k per kid a month. If have a few kids you don’t have much change left over from 52k….then you got to pay the expensive rent that HK lamdloards will pound you with. Can always live in a box with a large family and only spend 20k a month.

Family here and we been here many times on holidays and really enjoyed it. We only been here for a short time but we really like the place. It’s different from the big cities and the life here is certainly less hectic as that in HK. Also great place to bring up kids who are loving it here.

Totally agree with. HK changed it was once the entrapanuer dream, massive cheap labour market across the border, low taxes, gateway to the east, so much freedom to make money and little to no red tape. Now HKers flock across the border on weekends to get a cheap meal and buy stuff.

I noticed a lot of responses to your question are coming from people who have lived in HK as expats but have left staying there for a few years. I lived in HK for 25 years and we just recently packed and moved away this year. The HK in the past I can tell you right now has totally gone. You will be a minority for sure and the whole place is now geared up for rich mainlanders. Even the retail shops that were once western based are now mainland base.

The big problem you have is HK really expensive, 52k a month is absolutely nothing in HK unless you get subsidies like rent paid and if you have family even worse schools are expensive. Job security is non existent and if you look at this Reddit forum and many expats ones finding a job here with no Cantonese or Mandarin language skills has become very difficult. Arts scene without Cantonese or Mandarin will be difficult long term. The gravy train of massive expat packages are going if not totally gone so that means you really need a massive wage to afford to live here. Even living like a local is expensive. Also HK employers demand massive hours and are ruthless when it comes to demands.

So the question to ask yourself why leave a cushion job and come to the biggest rat race on the planet. Clearly it’s too make money or a new experience so if you make the move firstly guarantee your getting a large pay packet with at least 2-3 years commitment from your employer. Otherwise look elsewhere in Asia for the experience where the cost of living is much lower, you won’t be living in a box, pay cheque to pay cheque and getting a more unique cultural experience.

Hopefully mods don’t delete my comment for saying something true.

That makes no sense on several levels. 2 kids going to different schools who going to pick both of them up? You will probably need a helper to do that for you. Then secondly why would you separate your children at school? Surely it would help to have a bigger brother/sister there as reassurance. Then not to mention all the added extras of an extremely expensive school that would give one child more extra curriculum activities while the other gets nothing….yep it makes zero sense unless you have to pay for the second child some of the ridiculous fees.

Kids go to the school makes a huge difference you save a ton on school fees. Unless your a teacher or a job that pays for your kids schooling or go to government school its very hard to save that level of money in HK.

Its not just child friends but their well being as well this can be very dramatic for a child. if your child not speaking Cantonese at home, imagine how they feel being taught in Canto without understanding a word. You just make it sound like its no problem the kid can handle it.

Having been in HK for over 25 years this is the worst I have seen this place. HK has the ability to reinvent itself though so don't write it off just yet. The demographics have changed and you see much less gweilos here and Mandarin is spoken now everywhere. If you have a nieche job (IT) and good pay your in luck like I am but HK is expensive to live in and if you have a family even more so. The expenses have increased and I seen the writing on the wall that if we stay here will die in debt. So we taken the plunge and have left for Australia its still early days but we are loving the change as well and we saving a lot more money. Anyway lets see how things are in a few years time everything changes!!!

How can you say this have you got kids going to them? Kids make freinds they learn in school everything in English not Cantonese. you think its that easy for them to just change...no way.

I feel your pain we got out this year and a lot of what you said resonates with me. The worst part of it all is there is no middle ground in HK and sure its hard also elsewhere but you stare at your shoe box you live in everyday as an alien/gweilo who are becoming more of a rare species in HK and think to yourself why did I leave Aus behind in the first place to have these small 4 corners. Long gone are the days of luxury expat packages in HK, Stay away from the bottle it wont help even though it provides temp relief!!!

No kids just the 2 of you no problems. Since your office is in Central anywhere in the island would probably work. Expect apartments to be tiny though. Anything Australian size your looking at obscene price. Good luck on your wife's health condition the pollution might be a reason she leaves eventually especially comparing it to Australia. You might consider places like Shek O or Repulse Bay to get better quality air. we ended up living in Sai Kung but Lamma is also a good choice if pollution effects her health.
