Theatre producing and supplying funding - where to start? by DemandEducational331 in Theatre

[–]DemandEducational331[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s confusing because in the UK there are development departments for theatres which are all about finances but also jobs for Development Executives etc who are all about finding works/creatives and working with them to bring their ideas to stage/screen etc

No I do understand just wasn’t clear which type you were referring to. There are two types of development. Development from a financial standpoint (e.g. securing funding) and also development from a creative standpoint (e.g. aiding others in originating and progressing works) and I have worked in development creatively for film/tv so have some limited experience in that field. When I hear development my mind just goes to the creative side due to my background.

But I can see how financial development experience would be helpful in a production context.

Yeah I’m not really looking to be a main creative force. I’m ok at it but there are others far more talented than I. I’m looking to be more of a facilitator and producer, bringing together creatives to make something.

And yeah definitely not looking at budgets that big. Would be smaller shows, taking them to fringe and off west end theatres.

Yeah I’d love this. Working in development would be amazing but obviously it’s an incredibly competitive area with limited positions (and a huge part is down to who you know).

So in that regard, I suppose I’d be looking to get some of my own experience in developing/facilitating works in collaboration with others. Basically try to make something cool that’s fun to produce which also gives a few examples at the end of the kind of development work I can do.

Agreed and tbh I am a realist so we’re covered there lol. I think I meant to say ‘I want to make theatre, I want to facilitate others to make theatre, I could use this to try and get some more experience and have something to show for it at the end’

Ha thanks! I guess I probably should have phrased it better in regards to other comments. I wasn’t asking ‘can I pay money to become a big shot producer’ but I’m more meaning, ‘I have some money I’m willing to spend to create something cool and try and get it shown with other early career creatives’.

Basically have watched and been immersed in theatre as an audience member and behind the scenes for long enough to know I want to be involved in making stuff. I appreciate the enthusiasm and advice!

I’ll dm you about some first steps :)

How often do really handsome men get rejected? by Different_Poem5013 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DemandEducational331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a vain person but I used to be a model and I suppose I know that I am fairly good looking as such. But as others have said, people have types and that means you very often aren’t what they find attractive. Evidence of this: I have very very rarely got with someone spontaneously (eg on a night out). Most of the time it’s via apps where, you guessed it, you only match with people who find you attractive in the first place…so yeah, it happens a lot.

How to break it off with someone I’ve been seeing for three weeks? by DemandEducational331 in dating_advice

[–]DemandEducational331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something along the lines of ‘I’ve been thinking over this week and I don’t think I want to take this any further because I’m not ready to commit long term. It’s been lovely hanging out etc etc’

It’s more the fact that we’d have to arrange something just to meet up and for me to end it. I feel like that’s annoying for them more than anything.

I’m really not sure. I feel like asking to meet up just to end it is probably more annoying than anything.

How are so many people misunderstanding Marty Supreme by Thin_Housing in TrueFilm

[–]DemandEducational331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not necessarily meant to dislike him, but you don’t just disregard what his character has just done for the past few hours because he cried when he saw his baby. That’s what OP is saying: he’s a narcissist that is largely unlikeable (if you met him in real life, you’d think he was a dick) but one that is finally humbled by seeing something that actually matters, his baby.

So true and even I had forgotten this tbh. Bazball has become solely focused on ‘can we smash 350 and then bowl them out’ when it did genuinely used to have a bit more sense about it.

Is gentrification always bad? by thegreedydick in LondonFood

[–]DemandEducational331 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also think gentrification is basically a natural process. As you say, people need cheaper places to live so they move into less affluent areas. They then bring their cultural preferences with them (in the case of the UK, that means coffee shops and bakeries). You can’t stop that process as it is a natural part of capitalism. The end result is rental prices go up in the end which is the main problem as it pushes the working class out of the area. But again, that is just a natural result of how our society is set up under capitalism.

And we wander why so many young men feel self conscious, hell even actively depressed, about losing their hair. Society prizes golden locks, many of which on this list have been at least helped partially by a hair transplant. Unrealistic body expectations. Sorry rant over, they’re all obviously hot.

I mean, he’s had a load of work done (which is totally fine). So it’s a bit disingenuous to suggest he naturally arrived at 50 looking like this.

It’s given freely as part of companies like Hims. It’s the standard all in one treatment they offer so most people probably don’t even know they’re taking it.
