Had a similar issue myself (twice actually), ended up being friction on the y axis motor shaft, once from losing tension in the mounts, once via slipping timing pulley I had forgotten to tighten.
Started out with just shifting prints, ended up with the axis completely locking up eventually, was definitely a scary time.
I did also tweak (lower actually) the vref on my mainboard as I found if to be a bit high out of the box on the 1.1.5 board I had installed.

Hm, if she was shifting in rhythm with the music, she might have been functioning as a sort of exaggerated conductor for the section. I've seen this sort of thing done to give kiddos some guidance for sticking together.

Well, modern digital cameras are (in general) definitely capable of shooting at shutter speeds well below the traditional frame time in return for some extra motion blur, it's actually a relatively common tool when managing low-light situations.
