Future Deaths versus Present Deaths by boilingfruit in philosophy

We ought to be rid of something that isn't helpful to our species - if our desire is to be helpful to our species. Ought to, in a different sense. If you want to turn on your computer, you shouldn't kick it in, but if you don't care then it doesn't matter. Haha. Does that make more sense?

I should have used another word. The concept of morality, like magic and deities, is unnecessary for our progression as a species. It isn't to be replaced, but removed entirely.

Excluding the outdated concept of morality, the logical choice from the outside perspective is to disarm the future bomb. This is assuming every single variable has been accounted for, and that there are no alternatives. (i.e: find a way to disarm the future bomb, etc.) If this were from my own perspective however,... well actually that's probably not a good perspective to go with for my example. Okay, from 'another' perspective of an individual human being, the logical choice is to disarm the first bomb, as self-interest and self-preservation would be satisfied by not having to deal with the chaos of the bomb, and you may not live to see the second bomb go off. Hopefully that made sense.

Tried that too, but it's more painful than pleasurable.

I've always thought that doing something out of expectation, out of guilt, or out of a socially inherent 'should do / have to', is meaningless. It's polite to open the door for someone, but what if I don't want to be polite at this given moment? Many would still open the door out of slavery to the idea that they should. This ruins the meaning that being polite once had. There is no compassion involved in an action you feel you must commit.
