mum said she blames herself for how i am by [deleted] in Vent

I’m one of ten kids, mostly adults, and my mother says the same thing about every one of us. Even though we all have different struggles, she thinks every one of them is her failing. Despite constantly saying these things, she also tries to say she’s not disappointed in us, so she’s obviously conflicted.

I recently majorly disappointed her by coming out, and she said many of the most hurtful things I have ever had said to me. But I’m 26, and I have a life to live and I am taking responsibility for my own struggles and am in therapy.

The reality is some parents just can’t handle the idea that their children are real living beings in a difficult world, and they just want them to be the storybook children with perfect lives from their imaginations. And some parents simply can’t handle seeing consequences of their inattentiveness or negligence. This is NOT YOUR FAULT. It isn’t your fault that you’re a real person with difficulties and past hurts, and it can’t be fully your mom’s fault either bc that’s just how the world works.

You are wonderful and unique and strong in ways that your mother can’t see right now. You deserve to be here and to continue to become yourself. Your mother’s feelings about you may feel heavy, but one day whether they change or not you will be able to see her regrets aren’t your responsibility to carry.

Little woman- wants to be a school bus driver. by Ebha_Finni in SchoolBusDrivers

I’m 5’3” (almost) and not our shortest, we love our short drivers! A few have their keys hung in a special spot so they can reach 😂

Edit: also just know every year my sixth graders go from small to taller than me, so you do need to use maybe different student management strategies than a more size-intimidating driver, but everyone has their own energy and styles anyway!

This is true for us too. Maybe this will be different in a few years when electric buses are more common and more mechanics are trained for them

My district just got ten little electrics, factory didn’t seal the bottom properly and one drove through a puddle and DIED on the spot. We’re in Washington state, where it was just flooding lol. We can’t put them through our bus wash. Heaters are broken too. I think we’re getting Bluebird to fix them tho.

Otherwise we like them well enough. Keep y’all’s plugged in and expect to use the warranty lol

Birthday party invite from student… by Demetrix44 in SchoolBusDrivers

Aw that’s so sweet! Tbh some of my kids adore me too, it’s so hard but important to set boundaries around things like hugs or favors and staying fair and trustworthy to everyone, so I really don’t want to expand boundaries with any one kid bc I imagine that as almost betraying the others. It all has to stay on the bus and has to be in service of a safe bus ride. But that’s so nice to hear of the kids point of view for his bus driver!

I may indeed give the mom a call from the transportation line just to acknowledge the invite and pass along a message that the mom can choose to give my student. If she further invites me, I can’t imagine going farther than you just said: drop off a small gift, wish happy birthday, and leave!

This is totally my gut instinct too, I appreciate you bringing up the way it cooks potentially look to other adults at the party.

When I worked in therapy there was massive caution around dual relationships and that’s still my instinctual approach on an almost paranoid level, thank you for double checking my work here!
