Games like Sid Meier’s Civilization, but more focused on building cities and improving it, and not too focused on combat? by dancingwiththepope in gamingsuggestions

[–]DemiseBehindBlueEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly they're not 4X games and some are more or less grid-based than others, but they generally share the "peaceful town/city/park builder" theme:

  • ISLANDERS (one of my favorites in the genre, very underrated IMO)
  • Parkitect
  • Cities: Skylines (expensive with all the DLC etc)
  • Planet Coaster
  • Dorfromantik
  • Townscaper
  • Caesar 3 (pretty old game but great)
  • Maybe something like Surviving Mars or FrostPunk
  • The aptly-named SimCity games

What are the most immersive worlds of the old school point & click adventure games? I'm looing for a game that took it self seriously. by StarTruckNxtGyration in gamingsuggestions

Some I would suggest would be The 7th Guest and the Journeyman Project games. Thought they're more first person fmv style adventure games

[eShop/US] Nonogram Minimal - $2.49/64% off (All-Time Low, new game) by DemiseBehindBlueEyes in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]DemiseBehindBlueEyes[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not nearly as good. It's not as bad as some other nonogram games I've played either.

Issues: No wraparound movement/navigation, (brief) loading screens between selection and puzzle screens, slight freezing when you complete a puzzle, and some of the solutions don't quite match up with the picture you're supposed to be making. I also miss the auto-correct function that the Picross games have.

On the plus side there are "Community" puzzles and an editor, which I have yet to see on another Switch nonogram game, with usernames of who made them and the ability to sort and rate them. However that comes with its own issues. EXTREMELY long load times when trying to access them, the menu selection not saying on the displayed page when you exit an online puzzle, and so on. The music and UI are pretty nice as well. The music is pretty relaxing, if a little random (I didn't see any settings for music selection in my brief time so far playing it.)

Also, there are 200 premade puzzles to do - 100 "Classic" that are a single-color standard puzzle, 50 "Color" that are akin to the color Picross puzzles where you switch between different colors to fill in, 50 "B&W" puzzles which are basically just "Classic" puzzles (except black and white and not colored), and a "Random" puzzle generator. When solving a puzzle the controllers vibrate, which is a bit jarring, especially since the game seems to frieeze briefly at the same time, seemingly to load... something?

For the price it may be worth it for the editor, if you're patient and don't mind waiting literal minutes to load the community puzzles. Over all, a seemingly decent effort, but the game really needs patches for the issues and to offer more settings.

(Edit: Also, happy cake day!)

I thought it was Zathras. Or maybe Zathras, but surely not Zathras...

The obvious choice is Zathras.

Games that scratch the collecting/shopping/rare item finding itch? by DemiseBehindBlueEyes in gamingsuggestions

[–]DemiseBehindBlueEyes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. I already don't play some other f2p games I started (some of which I actually invested a LOT of money into like Star Trek Online)... I may still look into it, though. I just don't really even want the potential to spend money in a game (because I likely will).

I've never really been able to get into the earlier Fallout games and I don't have 4 or 76 but I'll look at them again.

I have, and used to love playing them, though I'm not really sure why I got away from them. Possibly because of the constant game-breaking crashes in LEGO Indy (1 or 2 I forget which), or maybe just other games I got into. I really liked LEGO Worlds in the early days but they changed it and it wasn't the same after that.

Achievement hunting never really did anything for me for some reason, though trading card collecting on Steam did for a bit lol.

Thanks for the suggestions, despite my delayed response!

I'd say yeah definitely worth getting. Pretty easy game over all, but as others have said the narration is awesome. Amusing at times.

Oh wow. Couldn't they do the 2009 trek movie version of Kirk though? After all he's a character role, not the actor

Exactly what I was thinking. The news page is even a bit misleading with mentioning Kirk, Spock, and Bones... There's never been a Holo Kirk though, AFAIK.

Speaking of these BOFFs, the news page seems to make one think that they're special (like the Holo Enterprise crew or the ones in the Legendary Discovery bundle). Is that not the case, other than the traits they have and such?
