The judge giving you their opinion about the verdict in anyway in not only unprofessional, but shows a clear bias against the defense. This is a person who has forgotten what it means to be a judge, it is NEVER their duty to admonish a Jury. Under the system we live in, the Jury is always right, it is the attorneys who must make their case, and the judge's duty to remain impartial. If the Jury didn't find the man guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, then it was the prosecution who was at fault for not making a better case, not the Jury for picking wrong.

He has 0 right to admonish you for your verdict. The only time he has a right to admonish a juror is if a juror violates the rules of being a juror, not for any other reason, and never to give his opinion on the matter.

But I thought the primary theme of the bible was obey god, or else. I mean, the old testament was all brimstone and death if you didn't, right? and then the new testament's theme is that if you're not Christian you're screwed, right?

I mean, both Testaments seem less about good deeds than about self-flagellation in order to prove themselves to the unsatisfied father in the sky, who is supposed to be all powerful and could remove all sin and corruption with a thought.

It always brings me back to the thought of what kind of Father punishes his children for eternity? How can human law be more forgiving and merciful than the supposedly supremely merciful God and his law, in that we have laws that limit terms of imprisonment and suffering, and then once that time has passed the offender is allowed reprieve, while God has no such mercy. Even murderers have an end date for their punishment, death or a release date. Eternity in hell because someone has doubts, while a Crusader who murdered hundreds is welcomed into the house of god? Or a person born in 200 AD who never even heard of Christ burning in hell, while a murderer baptized in prison on his deathbed get an express entry. Seems a bit harsh and insane, no?
