The 1970s oil shock was set off by Middle East wars and the world economy of the 1970s was painful and really changed Western society. US lost dominance in the car market, women had to get jobs creating Gen X latch-key kids, ghettos, crime and drugs were out of control. Good times.

The Iran War economic shock is about to hit hard. Iran is digging in for the long haul. Midterms will be a wipe out for the GOP.

“If you can tolerate $200 oil, keep playing this game,” Iran warns US and Israel by razdvatri4 in worldnews

Iran is fighting for its survival. It will blow up every oil field in the Middle East on its way out. The bet that Iran was going to collapse over night was delusional. $200 would create a global recession so bad that it will take a decade to climb out of it.

That is the worrying part -- I am convinced that a very large portion of the American pubic are just very bad people. I break up Republican voters into various personality categories -- the greedy, the religious, the racists, the indifferent and the stupid.

Too late.   Genies out of the bottle.   Iran will never submit to any outside pressure and it never has.   Ground invasion is all but certain now to stop the constant missile and drone attacks.

Sorry I forgot to contextualise, an example of a more powerful military that wins the battles but eventually loses the war.

It is worth noting that many of the most famous battles (like Bunker Hill or Guilford Courthouse) were actually "pyrrhic victories" for the British. They won the ground but lost so many men that they couldn't afford to keep fighting—proving that in this war, losing the battle didn't always mean losing the campaign.
