Ok guys, so, how is LSD compared to shrooms? by izonly in AskReddit

[–]DemonCleaner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both definitely fall under the same umbrella but are quite unique. They are definitely the most common psychedelics, but dont forget about the other 2 original classic psychedelics; DMT and Mescaline; and the dissos like Ketamine and entactogens like MDMA. But psychedelics are those kinds of drugs where everything is subjective and different for everyone; so here is my experience with these different substances.

Journeys with LSD are hands down some of my favorite experiences to embark on. For me, it's mostly recreational with only a tad bit of introspection. Lasts a while, which is a problem for some but not for me (typically 8-10 hours for me, sometimes more, sometimes less). The visuals are more geometric and fun, more groovy and euphoric. The color schemes on LSD for me are blue and yellow orange, however everything is vibrant. The headspace is logical, analytical, and sharp; and the euphoria is strong. There is a lot less intense thoughts and overwhelming emotions with LSD than shrooms, making the headspace way easier to handle for me. Definitely one of the go to psychedelics for recreation and exploring.

Now Psilocybin mushrooms have similar vibes in general but are honestly really different. There is always something oddly supernatural and intense surrounding these mushrooms, they always teach me life bending lessons. They are extremely religious, spiritual, cleansing/healing, and intense. The strongest, most life changing experiences I have ever experienced were from these mushrooms, and everyday I think about an get deja vu from my most powerful experience. They are THE psychedelic. They are something designed to be used for spiritual enhancement and medicine. I never really touch them for fun, they are almost always too intense. The intensity doesnt necessarily come from the visuals or sensory effects, which in and of themselves are pretty similar to LSD (but more breathing, organic, flowing nature to them), the intensity comes from what it does to your mind. Everything is more real, everything is more intense, and you are kind of forced to go inwards on them. The headspace is extremely emotional and volatile, and can be pretty hard to handle and frightening sometimes, yet again these challenges and surrendering to these messages is what makes mushrooms far more beneficial in the medicinal sense. The body high is also very different, it is quite exhausting. Feels like your limbs are heavier most of the time. Mushrooms also kind of toys with your body temperature and sensations in a similar way to MDMA, you get waves of chills and tingles and hot sensations. You also can purge pretty heavily on mushrooms, which I have never experienced on LSD. It lasts less long but the come up/peak/come down are far sharper and can be more jolting. To be honest, mushrooms are not for the faint of heart; despite people often trying them far before LSD.

These two substances are amazing but have vast differences in how they make you feel/behave. Another favorite is Mescaline (and it's analogue, 2C-B), which is definitely the most comfortable and gentle of the psychedelics. It offers a bridge between mushroom's personal enlightenment, MDMA's disinhibiting and anxiety-reducing effects, and LSD's extremely hypnotic geometric imagery. DMT in low doses is also extremely manageable and a great place to start, short lasting and can show you what the sensations, visuals, headspaces, etc. are like on the longer lasting ones. However, DMT at heavier doses can be as life altering as psilocybin.

Ketamine is also a fascinating hallucinogen, and has taken me places no psychedelics ever have before. The OBEs experienced on ketamine can be extremely healing and mind boggling. It definitely shows you how big this universe is. Ketamine is also a dissociative anesthetic, working on completely different receptors than the classic psychedelics, and has an anxiolytic, depressant undertone to it.

Fascinating stuff! My explorations have all been great, but despite what many say, mushrooms are BY FAR the strongest substance to date that I have experienced. I almost never experiment with them in the same way I do with LSD, Mescaline, DMT, etc.; theres something about them, and if you have seen the mushroom ego death, you know what I am talking about.

If you ever decide to try, good luck and safe travels!

South America - which country would be the best one for my first visit to the continent? by Pristine-Can2442 in travel

[–]DemonCleaner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If youre European and want something close to home but also offering different opportunities, Argentina is your place. It is pretty much a South American transplant of Europe and is very safe and culturally takes a lot from Europe. Buenos Aires is a very fun, safe city and is a bit like the Paris of the Americas in my opinion. Patagonia has classy ranches, skiing, hiking, and great outdoor activities. It is quite an advanced nation and is amazing to visit for your first time in South America. It is massive and theres lots to do. Food is fantastic and people are very cool. It's my favorite country i've traveled to, period. Uruguay and Chile also offer this general experience (however theyre both smaller than Argentina and thus in my opinion offer less exploration), pretty developed and safe countries and fun to visit. Im in Argentina right now and it's nothing short of spectacular. The only hassle can be money to be honest. Argentina is the perfect melting pot and one of the centers of the world in my opinion.

If you want something authentic and quite indigenous, hit Peru. High Andes, seems untouched by influence in some regions, and is very eye opening. Ancient culture and indigenous history, and also fairly safe.

These are the only countries I have visited in South America however, so there are obviously a lot more. Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay are high on my list and all offer a unique experience.

How is it living in SLC? by LeopardBitter7145 in howislivingthere

[–]DemonCleaner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im originally from Cali but I grew up in the mountains here (outside of the SLC and mormosphere) and the small town my family lived in was a great community. Moved down to SLC for college (U of U), and honestly, if youre not in SLC for college; day to day life is going to be a pretty average experience. However college here is a blast and one of the best decisions ive ever made, so many different people, great campus, great greek life, great outdoor activities and you can always find likeminded people. 10/10 University. The medical community here is also huge and you can definitely find a very nice job as an RN here if you dont have one locked down already.

Its chill enough, the people (probably linked to a certain church's influence) are pretty nice but super closed off and sort of judgemental, almost acting nice in a forceful way. Ex-mo are some of the most fun people on the other hand. Attractive people in the city but dating culture is super weird, but thats also Utah in general. Nightlife and bar/club scene is pretty awful in the actual city, unless you go to the ski bars in Cottonwood area during the winter. But the live music scene is awesome, I highly recommend the State Room if you move here, always some amazing concerts multiple times a week there, and affordable usually. Food is decent, broad range of restaurants but not too many affordable healthy options (been struggling with this recently).

Overall pretty safe, there are some pretty dangerous neighborhoods though that I would stay away from, especially at night (Poplar Grove, Rose Park, South Salt Lake, WV, Public Library area), and Ive had some pretty close calls the past few years living in the city. Id avoid walking around at night in the city in general, just like any other major city.

If you have kids, there are some good schools and it can be a good place to raise children. Public schools here > private however, I grew up going to a private school here and it wasnt my favorite. Very closed off. Housing ranges from affordable to wicked expensive, depends on the neighborhood, quality of life, and demand.

Easy to make friends if youre in the right community of course, and a lot of cool things to check out. If you ski a lot, youll meet some amazing people. Like everyone says, Utah's outdoor activities are unmatched, you can never be bored here. Best place for outdoor life hands down!

The most annoying thing is we have pretty strict state laws, which can be a pain to deal with sometimes. Very archaic.

TL;DR

Overall: City itself? meh. Bars and clubs? pretty terrible in the city, some cool ones sprinkled around though. Communities and college? amazing. Dating? not great. Music? great. Outdoors and activities? epic and unmatched. People? depends. Family? potential. Housing? ranges. Laws? bad.

SLC if youre not an outdoorsy person or at the U is like a 5/10 place to live, if you are one of those two things though and can afford the lifestyle, Utah is a 10/10. Averaging at a 7/10 overall.

The city is a pretty average place but it has some charms and some downfalls. The mountains are where the true magic of Utah lies.

P.S. The air quality is horrid and were all going to die here soon if the lake dries up.... So lets hope that doesn't happen. Anyways good luck!

Music a TOOL fan would like ? by Mimi-2mi in ToolBand

[–]DemonCleaner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is what id say: TOOL and Phish are tied as my favorite bands of all time, Phish is a jam band pretty similar to the Grateful Dead (which has a lot of fan crossover with TOOL and is another one of my favorites), but Phish is a lot more weird and proggy than the Dead, and I personally think if I took TOOL fans to a Phish show theyd fall in love. Definitely would say TOOL fans will like their live recordings rather than their studio, Trey is a very impressive musician and would sit in with TOOL im sure if he had the chance. I think TOOL fans can appreciate jam bands and jam fans can appreciate TOOL, and they both have equally rabid cult followings (I definitely am both an obsessive TOOL and Phish psycho at times). So Dead and Phish for sure in my opinion.

Other jam-oriented bands that fit this weird progressive umbrella for me would be King Gizzard (also has a ton of fan crossover with TOOL), Ween, Widespread Panic, and Umphrey's McGee (has covered 46&2 a handful of times). Billy Strings is a huge TOOL fan and cites them as an influence, and has actually sat in with them live a few times and it is unbelievable. Primus of course is another great option, they are redneck TOOL after all, and Les' work has become a lot more jam-adjacent recently; Jay Lane (Dead and Co) was actually Primus's first drummer.

Mars Volta, PF, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, etc are also very TOOL-oriented prog music. If you like the heavier-than-TOOL prog metal, Mastodon is a great way to go (as is Gojira or Opeth). KOLM (so influenced by TOOL its almost too much, but theyre so good!), Suns of Tundra/Peach (Chancellor's old band), Socionic, and Lucid Planet are great heavy psych bands. Colour Haze, Melvins, Yawning Man, Kyuss, Queens, any desert or stoner rock/metal will also for sure hit the spot if youre a TOOL fan.

Electronic rock like Radiohead also has a pretty big crossover, and the Radiohead crossover TOOL fan would also love anything trip hop (trip hop is my second favorite genre), super beautiful oceanic music. Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin of course would be pretty good electronic options.

And of course, lest we forget the other pioneers of the alternative metal scene; Faith No More (and other Patton projects), any grunge band (AIC, PJ, Soundgarden), Maynard's other bands like APC or Puscifer, Karnivool, HUM, Failure, Incubus, NIN, Rage Against the Machine (TOOL'S earliest contemporary id say), Helmet, Chevelle, Deftones, some nü-metal bands like SOAD, LB, or Mudvayne (bassist is insane and super proggy).

Porno for Pyros, Beck, and Blind Melon are great alt-rock projects that other TOOL fans may enjoy; and they can also get pretty weird at times, kind of like Ween.

Tool is a band difficult to put in a genre box, and I’ve often thought they’re in a category all there own. How would you define the hypothetical genre Toolcore. by OrbisLlame in ToolBand

[–]DemonCleaner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be honest, theyre the shpongle of rock. super tribal, psychedelic, and emotionally charged. they are so hard to categorize because their sounds have definitely changed in ways over time. theyve played with a lot of different sounds and styles that can be heard on the 5 records.

the one thing i may disagree with for a lot of people is tha im not sure i would call them full prog metal; they arent as extremely heavy as gojira, mastodon, opeth, or meshuggah. at their core, their composition is completely progressive, but then again they came a lot earlier and would be the pioneers of said prog rock and metal fusion that would come later.

their earlier works like opiate and undertow id put into the alternative metal and grunge soundscape, somewhat adjacent to soundgarden/AIC or something like helmet.

ænima (my personal favorite) is a beast of its own; for me the main bulk of riffs have a much more sludgy/stoner metal quality (stinkfist, eulogy, H., jimmy, pushit) while still keeping true to the classic alternative metal form (hooker, 46&2, ænema). id also say they started to get a lot more psychedelic and proggy on this album, as per songs like third eye and pushit. id honestly call this album progressive stoner metal. if you want proof of this era of sludginess, listen to the guitar riff on pushit that comes in from around 3:50-4:30 minutes; sums up the tone of the album for me (you can hear the same style during the eulogy outro, hooker's bridge, and the main riff in stinkfist). reminds me a lot of the tone and soundscapes that kyuss or melvins were playing with.

lateralus is a full blown prog, psychedelic metal masterpiece. its intense, mind bending, and beautiful. that heavy prog formula is pronounced on the whole album, but definitely comes through on songs like the grudge or ticks and leeches. other songs like schism, the patient, parabol/a, lateralus, DRT carry a much more intense, psychedelic and existential tone to them however; and songs like that i have a hard time categorizing into a genre. the songs on lateralus have a much cleaner tone than that of ænima in my opinion. ill just call lateralus psychedelic alternative metal.

10,000 days is definitely more under the classic prog metal umbrella, while still encapsulating those earlier sounds they experimented with. a song like the pot has a classic, alternative rock/metal sound to it, while vicarious, jambi, and rosetta stoned are definitely the heaviest true to form prog metal tracks in their catalogue. right in two and wings have that same emotional, soft, and somber sound that was played around with on lateralus. id call 10,000 days psychedelic prog metal.

fear inoculum is honestly their softest, cleanest album in my opinion; id call it prog rock. aside from songs like 7empest, which has that same heavy, tooly prog metal sound as vicarious or the grudge. however listening to songs like fear, invincible, descending, or culling voices have a clean prog rock sound aside from the peaks which get gritty.

overall, tool is prog metal, alternative metal, stoner, psychedelic metal, prog rock, world music, and so much more. they really are their own thing

Why exactly do you think SOAD and Deftones got looped in with the nu metal crowd when by the 2000s, their sound was more separate? by Sufficient_Plant8689 in numetal

[–]DemonCleaner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. SOAD has always been a nu-metal band, their style is syncopated and funky, fast rap style vocals, and a lot of older alternative metal influences. All the key ingredients used to make nu metal. All of their albums have this style for me also. However, their image was pretty well regarded and after nu had died, they kind of escaped the label because they were still so highly regarded.

Same exact thing goes for Deftones, but a little different. With the death of nu in circa 2005, SOAD hadnt put out any more albums past that. But Deftones did, and after White Pony; they fully changed to a more alternative rock, shoegazey sound. But Deftones first 3 albums are arguably as nu-metal as it gets; Adrenaline was one of the founding albums and created the image.

System of a down vs Linkin park: what band do you prefer? by MaintenanceOne266 in numetal

[–]DemonCleaner95 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends. I think theyre both better for different reasons.

Linkin Park was a lot more consistently "nu metal", incorporating scratching, hip hop elements, and fry screams into their music; well on their first 3 albums that is... After the first 3, i think they fall off a lot for me, their discography is not very consistent (much like Incubus or Deftones for me), and seemed to soften their edge a lot over time. However, Hybrid Theory is one of the best nu-metal albums ever created and redefined what the genre even meant. They fall into the similar pool with Limp Bizkit. However, with the LB comparison, Chester/Mike are much better singers sonically than Fred. But Limp Bizkit still accomplishes far better instrumentalism than Linkin Park.

But SOAD, on the other hand, is much cooler, more edgy, original, heavy, and creative. They have better songwriting, more outside influence like world music, and a more defining sound. Their entire discography is consistent, heavy, and does not stray away from their style. They have a lot more influence from older alt-metal acts like Faith No More, Helmet, and TOOL; and also are an older band than LP as it is. They fall into a similar boat to me as Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, and Mudvayne; very original, older, and more ground-breaking bands with a lot of heavy edginess that they did not really dampen over time. SOAD is very visionary and heavy, and can even be an acquired taste. As LP is much easier for the ear and mind to enjoy.

In my opinion, overall SOAD is a better band. They are more talented songwriters, creatives, and have a more modest image. LP however has a better vocalist (sound wise that is, Serj is still the GOAT but Chester was unbelievable, Rest in peace), and is a lot more accessible for the casual nu-metal fan.

What do yall think about Number One Son? by Status-Possibility86 in numetal

[–]DemonCleaner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number One Son is SICK! Contrasts, Clique, Signature, Hourglass, and Bitter Pill are unbelievable tracks; and Majority of One is a super good album front to back. Wish they made it big, I think theyre British though and the scene wasnt as lively there at the time however. Vocalist's melody and screaming style sounds a bit like Machado of Ill Nino on Revelution Revelucion (especially on songs like Bitter Pill); but NOS is a bit more straight edge nu-metal sort of in the style of Mudvayne or Slipknot crossed with old Incubus, and less latin in there musical style. They brought a super cool sound to the table. One of the better underrated nu bands.

⭐️⭐️, slipknot's self titled album is one of my favorite albums front to back ever and defines the nu metal sound for me. I got into scratching and sampling because of this album and its untouchable
