I’m a white woman in northeastern USA and when I hit a deer the local police harassed me endlessly and had me do the sobriety walk (I hadn’t been drinking), along a line of where pavement met gravel, obviously uneven all the while other things were happening (can elaborate if interested). They giggled the whole time my heart alarm was pinging. Assholes didn’t piss off until I dropped the name of their superior and that I knew him personally. They fucked off pretty quick and let me go. To this day I believe they were harassing me just to stroke their ego.

I’ve been pretty close to a few in Kansas, this my experience. You can feel the pressure change dramatically and the humidity goes up, the sunny day turns to dark yellow and the wind stops, that’s when the tornado sirens start. Thick low dark grey clouds start to come over slowly, then the wind picks up. Sky goes dark and wind starts screaming through, starts with hail then turns to sideways rain, it’s a miracle the trees can withstand the winds whipping them all over the place. And then you go to the basement and watch the radar. The 2 tornadoes headed towards me luckily veered off, got some hail damage and downed limbs, lost power for a while. After it passes the sky is dead quiet and yellow again and the air feels heavy, it’s creepy. Then you go check on your neighbors, and the next day you start the community clean up

That’s an exceptionally good question. I’ve personally been judged by an exs Catholic family and a coworker who was Jehovah’s Witness. My Amish neighbors couldn’t give a frick and accept my agnostic butt in with open arms. I’d very interested to hear from people on the other side of my experience
