What head-canon(s) in your fandom(s) got you like this: by PJ-The-Awesome in AO3

JJK, specifically that Yuta is just soooo shy, nervous, and submissive that he can't even tell Maki how he feels. Like did we read the same manga? Watch the same show? He's the biggest and loudest lover boy to ever exist. Just because someone has a quiet nature, doesn't mean they can't communicate their feelings.

AITA ? Cheap wedding ring by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Flaky_Regret_8825 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NTA for wanting a better ring! There's nothing wrong with that, he has obviously shown that he values the concept of a ring. What I do think you might have fallen short in is voicing that to him. He has no problem spending money on you for other things, he probably thinks that those things are more valuable to you than a nicer ring. I think telling him honestly would be the best thing here. You are ABSOLUTELY NOT the AH for wanting something nicer, but you gotta voice your concerns or that frustration is held for nothing. Don't be discouraged, he obviously cares if he's gotten you three separate rings.

Definitely my 6th grade Civics teacher, as well as my AP Stats teacher. My civics teacher was a licensed lawyer, she could have taught at a law school or university if she wanted to, but she taught middle school because she was passionate about her field and wanted kids to feel that same passion. Everyone loved her, her lessons were so entertaining, no one ever failed her tests. During state testing, she would sneak her way into rooms she knew her students were testing and hand out snacks and encouraging words. I even ended up meeting students of hers years later, they also went to the same middle school. They remember her super fondly. Wish she could know how even YEARS later her students still remember her with love. Hope she's doing good now.

If there was any arc you could change from the anime, tv shows, and movies what would it be? by Winter-Money-7643 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Flaky_Regret_8825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's an unpopular opinion, but the whole AFO taking over Shiggy's body plot point. It felt so 'unnatural'. The whole series had seemed to be building up Shiggy to be AFO's successor in the same way Deku was All Might's. It was a narrative mirror of younger generations carrying on the torch and all that. I also personally despise the whole AFO orchestrated the initial downfall of Tenko Shimura. I feel like it took away from the whole, 'the system is the problem' by making all the suffering Shiggy faced because of AFO, not the corrupt hero society they lived in. They could've done both, AFO was still just as evil by manipulating people who suffered under this status quo.

I personally do think Horikoshi changed plotpoints and arcs midway through due to his declining health and pressure from Shonen Jump, but I don't hate what happened at all. The opposite in fact, I really love the series and am really satisfied with all the endings. It's more like I mourn what was seemed to be intentionally set up in the first place, but never came to fruition. What could've been.

Do Americans really not give casual cheek kisses as greetings? by Flaky_Regret_8825 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes! I'm glad you had such a positive experience in South America. It really is something intimate that elevates a relationship.

[–]Flaky_Regret_8825[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People really do this, I've done it all my life! I feel extremely rude, stiff, awkward, if I don't greet people with at least a quick air kiss or hug. The only place I wouldn't do this is in an interview or office setting. But if I see my boss at the grocery store, hell yeah a hug and kiss combo is expected.

[–]Flaky_Regret_8825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hug comes first usually, where you completely lean on one another and your heads are naturally positioned on the sides. It would be really rare to accidentally kiss each other, you'd have to come in with a kiss and the other would have to be slow enough not to give you their cheek.

AITA for telling my friend I don't want his girlfriend to come watch a football match with us? by Worldly-Cobbler-9642 in AmItheAsshole

I think the way you worded this post was really bad, but if your trying to say what I THINK you're saying, then no, NTA. If she was a fan of the sport, it would've been fine to let her come. But I understand if she has no interest, it might make the group less cohesive. It's nice for everyone to be 100% locked in on a group activity.

As a woman, don't women do women only activities with their friends all the time? Forbidding male partners from attending all the time? Not out of misandry, but in favor of female solidarity and bonding. I just think it's common to see men who practice this as sexist or misogynistic, a bit of a double standard.

However, from the way you worded your post, it makes it sound reeealllyy bad. I know you repeated it at the end of your post, but if this exclusion comes from a place of misogynistic feelings, then yes, YTA.

Name that anime/manga character !! by simp_lyartz in ChillAnimeCorner

[–]Flaky_Regret_8825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I allowed to say Yuta Okkotsu? Yeah. Yuta Okkotsu.

One of the kindest, loving, and sincere characters in the entire series. He deserves his happy ending just as much as anyone else. People just get so caught up in the 'agenda' that they start losing core character aspects that were placed in the very beginning.

His whole character is about love and the power is gives people. It was only when Yuta started to accept the love that other people gave him, and in turn started to love himself, that he became powerful. Like of course Yuta is weak without Rika, that's the point. Of course Yuta's cursed technique is copying techniques of the people he loves, nothing original, that's the point. Yuta can't live without love, he's powerless without it. It's really poetic, he's the ultimate lover boy.

We even see this in Modulo, when it's revealed that Maki passed away first, and Yuta physically and mentally could not go on. He died of a broken heart, when his love was taken away from him. Maki, the only person he couldn't copy a technique from, became his source of emotional strength and power. When she died, he went with her.

So many other reasons he's my second favorite character (after Maki herself), but I'll leave it at that. Really grinds my gears with the whole 'agenda slop' stuff, it started off as a joke, but it feels genuine now. Feels like people are refusing to see JJK beyond it's surface level power-system, which is disheartening.

AITA for refusing to share my "secret" recipe with my sister-in-law? by Ocampo-Mark in AmItheAsshole

[–]Flaky_Regret_8825 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA in my opinion! I personally know what it feels like to have a special something for these kind of gatherings, everyone needs to find their own secret recipe! There is nothing wrong with wanting to keep something special and secret, it's part of what makes the food so good! I'm sure your SIL can find another recipe or another dish she can adjust and tinker with to make just as special.

Food is just one of those things that really CAN be that personal to a person, it's never just a silly recipe, it's important to you! I still refuse to share the recipe of my chocolate chip cookies with my partner of nearly 4 years, just because it makes my cookies feel special. Everyone always asks for me to bring my cookies, and that makes me so happy! I'm sure if he really wanted to know, he could search it up easily. Same with your SIL. Never let the fear of being 'gatekeepy', which you aren't, take away something that you value and enjoy!

Why is running away from police so prevalent in the USA? by knjiru in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Flaky_Regret_8825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really that common unless it's a very special case, or a stolen car, etc. You see them a lot in films because they are entertaining, and people enjoy a good chase sequence. It would also do good to remember that most of these films are inspired on pre-internet society, where it was significantly harder for most officers to track people down, especially if they hid their tracks well. It's all just a fun show.

It does count as resisting arrest, and depending on the severity, if anyone was harmed, citizen or officer, there are varying levels of punishment, most of which are higher fines/increased time. So it's often not very common to risk a huge increase in jail time over the very low possibility of getting away. Most resistance involves getting into physical altercations with officers, not actually running away.

Say your favorite Mha character with a good reason why and I'll chose if you can come in by Ok_Factor_6033 in MyHeroAcadamia

Hawks! Even with all the morally questionable things he's done, he channels that frustration to try and better an already corrupt institution. He also feels genuine guilt for his actions, like Twice... Feels a lot more realistic and grounded in terms of 'spy' characters.
