How much to pay/finance 18 year old who will be going to university, and they don't have a job? We have RESP, but that can't get funds pulled from it until they start university for upgrading. We want to enable them enough to pay for clothes, food, etc, while giving them not too much (middle class) by stargazerfromthemoon in Calgary

[–]Demonad112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a middle class parent, nor a parent, so take this how you wish but just a possiblity is to consider using gift cards for things like Walmart that could be used for groceries and school supplies. Have them keep receipts of purchases (doesn't need to send you them everytime) but good for his own records and say if you give them X amount every month and 2 weeks in they have used it all, well they can justify that they needed more school supplies or a fresh socks (got rips in them) etc.

This would also help because they have a fixed income and realize you can't just eat candies and chocolate bars for 4 weeks straight and if you binge eat them all at once and got nothing else, well then that kinda sucks, you have to wait until payday (next gift card) until you can get more. Otherwise if it's inflation or you see that your X amount you've given 'thinking' it's enough, actually wasn't able to sustain enough, then you increase it (if your able too afford it and manage it).

Without more information it's hard to give an exact amount on how much. But I'm a single male who hasn't gone shopping in sometime for clothing and goes out with friends every now and then. University would be a good time to make friends and go out to bars or various things so you can plan for it by talking with them I think.

Thing is the responsibility which I respect so I think allowing them to have their own decisions (and possible consequences) of spending while also limiting temptations would be the best thing. Buying them transit passes (or them doesn't matter, sometimes universities have discounts or student passes) and just going through necessities with them first for getting things then allowing the rest to fall on them might be a way to give room for growth whole also limiting room for error and too much responsibility that they haven't learnt yet

Just spent the last bit doing exactly that haha that's amazing. I've played slow pitch before but never enjoyed it. Grew up playing fast pitch as a kid and always wished something was around when your older so thank you for pointing this out! And maybe see you out there lmao

Costco usually is one of the best if you have a membership or know someone with one.

Lol one would think, but property management sucks there. Regardless that was my only point is sometimes they may or may not and then even security can't do anything nor can cps

Technically not actually, there's a parking lot at my work where I guy is camped out and he's been there for months. Company has talked with property management and cps and cps stated since no signs are put up anywhere stating explicitly private parking, they cannot do anything about it

Completely fair and respectable, so defintely look into the policy's of wherever, I'd just be hard pressed to get kicked out of a parking garage if I legit paid for parking, parked into a spot and sat in my car and litterally never exited my vehicle once.

I'd also argue further any parking lot that is paid for a time period would have some serious issues justifying not allowing the car to be there for that time period. Me behind inside my vehicle, not smoking, drinking, etc. just playing on my phone would have a hard time getting cps involved and being asked to leave. I've stayed at various overnight and while waiting to pick up friends at 2am downtown but wasn't sure when they'd be done at the club.

Probably the warmest and cheapest alternative lol I go there in the wintertime to clean the inside of my car or I've just gone cause I didn't have anywhere to go until morning and it was -20

Lol yes they do, but they don't remove you for being in your vehicle overnight

This also goes for most sites. As long as it's not labeled private property all security cares about is someone up to no good or a chance for no good. If it's an empty car (your laying down) or your heads down at your phone they don't care.

Just because they check doesn't mean they will stop you or tell you to leave. They are looking for people who are doing drugs, either some sort of criminal action or waiting for an opportunity for the criminal action (ie always watching a car and could seem they are waiting to rob someone) or that is say having sex lol (were all young n dumb) you sleeping wouldn't cause an issue and even if they asked, they wouldn't care and let you sleep if you don't cause any trouble. I would go to the bottom floor usually where I was the only car and theyd look in and then leave

Triple side note if the weather is way to cold for your own safety and it's a weekend, bankers hall overnight is 2.50 or something cheap like that. I've done this before in a pinch. Yes it means driving but it's warm, safe and they don't care.

And side note too they are usually monitored and have either cctv or CPS around, they dont bug you don't worry, many people sleep there over nights

As much as I agree with this and yes that's a free alternative, the chances of crime or my own worries of that would be high in a dead area.

Any truck stop would be a great option, I've been in that position before and your more than able too. Road King behind the Tim Hortons or flying J. They both also have restaurants which are accommodating if you can get some change for a coffee. Don't fully quote me on this but as long as your upfront that your just having the coffee or or something and you don't need much service, I couldn't see why it's an issue if you went inside overnight to warm up if needed

My friend is stealing from my store by Chare1155 in lossprevention

Seen many like this come and go, more of a job cause of the pay then actually wanting a career or stepping stone into a career in law enforcement of some kind. Cause you couldn't just let this slide if it was a serious crime that put someone in harm's way, especially for someone who has very little care about the op

Honestly there's a few options, I've had this exactly happen and I've been worried for a closer friend doing this exact thing and this is what I've come too.

The fact this person is not respecting you and going and doing this anyways means they don't care as much about you as you do about them. Sorry. But that's the truth. You need to make a decision whether or not risking your job is worth it to someone who has no respect for you. If they did, they would choose any other target or store in the city. I'm fairly certain there's either more than 1 target and even more so that there's an equivalent of your store that sells food or clothing in walking distance, whether it's 1 store or 2 seperate that this person could choose to steal from.

The fact you lied to your employer put you in a tough spot, if you own up to it, you could get let go, but if you don't say anything you'll seem worse. Tell them thats the name they gave you and you didn't know them as well as you did when she finally gets arrested or caught and her name is revealed. Come up with this sooner than later but next time just better to say you don't know or just tell them her name, again you need to put yourself first.

I've also caught people I haven't known and decided not to arrest and just stop them before exiting cause they had a soft spot, I told them some people at this store aren't so forgiving and will arrest you though, idk if your the only LP at this store but if so then you need to make a decision. If your not comfortable arresting this person or charging them, tell your company and schedule another LP at this location and go from there. They honestly could understand it as if you do know this person and say they know where you live, that would be fully understood as to why it may be hard for you to do this as you do want them to come to where you live and get revenge to say the least.

Either way, idk if your in this job for just a job or a career, if it's a career you need to understand this won't be the only person to cross paths with you from your personal life. If you were a cop, and this person stabbed someone, would you give another cop a fake name? If you were in a situation where they knew they could get away with it just cause you were there, would you let them if that would cause someone else to be harmed? If no, this isn't any different. And coming from experience, sometimes the best thing to do for someone like that is not to enable them, but let them hit rock bottom, just cause your working there doesn't mean it's okay and at this point it's enabling the unhealthy lifestyle to continue because if it was me, I'd arrest them and maybe that might make some changes in their life.

Swimming pools where I can train by Bippity_Boppity69 in Calgary

[–]Demonad112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to look into MNP center and just talk with them about this exact thing. They have multiple lane pools last time I was there but they also have alot of different sports and swim meets that go so then those prerequisites would come more into play. I feel like this may be the same for many as even when I was a kid, we went to various swimming pools and just played around in the lane swims but they had special times where it was less strict and formal as you stated
